3 FLASH Break Camp (Age: K-8th grade) FLASH will offer a one week camp at the Community Pavilion for Kindergarten through 8th Grade children. Your child does not need to be a FLASH program participant to register. The FLASH staff will be on hand to supervise, lead activities and take the children on daily field trips. We will have fun discovering nature in the summertime through exploration, observation, crafts, and games! These programs designed especially for kids will introduce kids to the beauty of nature and inspire them to become nature explorers through the new nature themes each week! Pack a snack and a drink for your child. Proper footwear required, no flip-flops. We cool off at the splash pad, please wear a swimsuit under clothes or clothes that can get wet. 4 Sports Camp (ages 3rd-8th grade) You will receive specialized instruction as you play a variety of familiar sports activities: softball, floor hockey, basketball, soccer and volleyball, just to name a few. Many different sports and games will be introduced for your enjoyment. Emphasis will be placed on sportsmanship, teamwork, character development, leadership skills, overall physical fitness improvement, and most important, FUN! Activities may be played indoors or outdoors, so please dress appropriately pending weather conditions. You must provide your own sack lunch daily. You will be going to the pool each day, weather permitting, so please bring a swimsuit and towel, etc. Four field trips will be offered at an additional charge. There will be no camp on those days for those who chose not to attend the fieldtrip. Bus transportation is available for Oak Lawn residents only - registration deadline is May 8. 5 GSBS Summer Basketball Camp (Age: 5-15) Good Students Make Better Athletes. The George Shimko Basketball School is celebrating its 22nd year of providing quality youth basketball programming for boys and girls at the Oak Lawn Park District s Community Pavilion. The goal of the weeklong camp is to create a positive environment in which each player will be able to develop their individual as well as their team skills. All players will be separated into groups by age & skill level. Since 1994 GSBS Basketball has instructed more than 50,000 young players. Enrollment is limited, so register early. GSBS Basketball uses college and high school coaches, professional instructors and student athletes who work with George Shimko during this weeklong camp. Campers will receive instruction from a professional golfer during this three day camp. Instructional games will be played each day to evaluate what the child has learned. These camps are designed to teach junior golfers the fundamentals they will need to be successful on the golf course. During the last day of camp, the campers will receive a 9-hole golf voucher for the camper and parent to play Stony Creek Golf Course. In the event of inclement weather, instruction will take place in the Golf Simulator Building. The number of holes played by each student will be determined by the instructor and depending on the camper s ability. These camps are designed to teach junior golfers the fundamentals they will need to be successful on the golf course. Kids solidify the basics of sending/receiving the ball over the net, fundamental foot work patterns, match tactics and increased ball control. Games are both cooperative and competitive match play. 6 Broadway Junior Theatre Camp (Age: 5 ½-14) This award winning, nationally recognized program helps to create a passion for the arts by developing a theatrical experience that your child will never forget. While learning the fundamentals of theatre, acting, dance and music, your child will also learn the importance of teamwork, confidence and speaking in front of an audience. It s educational and fun! The 5 week camp culminates with the presentation of a top quality musical production. This year s production will be 42nd Street. The performances include a professional orchestra, full set and light design, quality costumes, full sound and presents to sold-out audiences. Each child is given lunch on Thursdays, a show sweatshirt, and a DVD of the production. The campers meet Monday-Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until noon each week until tech week (begins July 10th) when there will be rehearsals in the evening. Auditions are Saturday, June 4th. (everyone gets a part!). First day of camp is June 13th. Show dates are July 14, 15, 16 & 17. Children must be able to attend tech week and all performances to participate in the program. What would happen if suddenly all that went away? A Kid s Life will explore that possibility, and that s where the fun and music all begin! The StagePlay program also incorporates valuable life lessons such as teamwork, commitment, conquering fear, being prepared, confidence, and theater etiquette. On the last day of camp, our talented young stars perform for friends and family, showing off all that they have learned. The performance will be held at 7:00pm on Thursday, August 11th. Pirouettes Gymnastics/Dance staff will host a Gymnastics/Dance Camp featuring music from your favorite princess sound tracks & activities inspired by the Disney movies. Each aspiring princess will learn several dances, do gymnastics and make a frozen craft or activity each day at camp. What a great way to keep fit and make new friends. Camp will consist of 2 hours of water time with skill based instruction in swimming, diving, safety skills and more. Build a motorized walking Creeper, a terrifying Ghast, and a motorized Minecart! This project-based camp, designed by Play-Well instructors, combines the basic format of our core engineeringthemed programs based on the world of Minecraft. Students will explore real-world concepts in physics, engineering, and architecture while building their favorite Minecraft objects. Students will have a blast, even without any prior experience with Minecraft or LEGO. Fee /18-7/22 1:00-4:00P $179 Counselor-In-Training Volunteer Program JEDI Engineering using LEGO (Age: 5&6) Young Jedi will explore worlds far, far away and engineering principles right in front of them. Defeat the Empire by designing and refining LEGO X-Wings, R2-units, and settlements on far-flung edges of the galaxy. Imagination and engineering combine to create motorized and architectural projects such as energy catapults, shield generators and defense turrets. Fee /08-8/12 9:00A-12:00P $179 The program goal is to teach you skills for future leadership position. Teen must be mature, self-confident, and reliable, and must possess the initiative and have genuine interest in assisting counselors and site directors with daily camp activities. As an unpaid volunteer of this program, C.I.T.s will benefit through all the training and experience given, and will receive staff apparel, entrance fee to camp field trips, and any supplies necessary. Participants must bring their own lunch and beverage daily. Applications can be picked up after May 1st. JEDI Master Engineering using LEGO (Age: 7-12) The Force is strong in this class. Build complex machines and structures based on the best designs from a galaxy far, far away. Projects include LEGO XWings, AT-AT walkers, Pod Racers, Star Destroyers, Cloud Cities, settlements, and fortresses. Play-Well s Jedi instructors reinforce key engineering concepts such as gear trains, worm drives, pneumatics, eccentric motion and more as students tap into the powerful forces of imagination and engineering. 8 Horseback Riding Camp (Age: 5 & up) Location: New Traditions Riding Academy S. Kean Ave. Save by registering at the! All riders are required to wear long pants, closed-toe shoes and equestrian safety helmet. Helmets are available to rent for $5 per week. Riders are to bring their own sack lunch daily. Recommended items to bring include sunscreen, wipes, and water bottle. Each camp will have a show on the last day of camp. Family and friends are welcome to attend. All riders will have pony rides for the first hour and then to the barn for grooming and brushing and learning all about the ponies and horse on the property. The third hour will have lunch and a special project of the day. Sign-up early as this class has limited space available. All riders will ride one hour per day, as well as having lessons on horse handling techniques. Riders will learn basic control of the horse in the saddle of their choice; exercises in moving the horse forward and stopping, turning and circling, and riding the sitting and posting trot will be discussed. Participants will develop correct riding positions through guided explanations, exercise techniques and demonstrations. Riders will also learn horse management skills such as bandaging, clipping, basic first aid, and stable management. Riders will participate in a show on the last day of camp. This camp will enable riders to focus on riding in the English saddle with a posting trot and an introduction to the working center. This camp will continue to build on the skills learned in previous camps. All riders will continue to expand their knowledge and practice riding the gaits of the horse. Riders will also gain knowledge of the natural aids and their applications, as well as learning how to execute individual workouts. Lectures and demonstrations will be given in the areas of horse show presentation, driving, horse science, and advanced equine management. In this camp, all abilities are welcome. Camp activities include sports, games, arts & crafts, swimming and weekly field trips. Our staff goes through training in order to serve individuals with disabilities the best way possible. Children will need to bring a lunch and drink to camp everyday. Limited transportation is available on a first-come serve basis. NO CAMP ON JULY 4th. Camp will be held directly after summer school each day. Camp activities include sports, games, arts & crafts, and swimming. Our staff is trained to work with individuals with disabilities. Children will need to bring a lunch and a drink to camp everyday. Depending on summer school location, children will either stay at their school for the afternoon or are bused by Rich Lee Bus Co. to camp locations. If you love spending time doing activities out in the community, hanging out with nature, and enjoying time with good friends, this camp is for you! Campers will need to bring a lunch and a drink to camp each day. Camp activities will include: community exposure, awareness, along with arts & crafts, games, field trips, and swimming. NOTE: Session II is designed for the year old students who are still attending summer school. Also, no transportation will be provided for the full day program.
