2 AN ADVENTURE THAT LASTS A LIFETIME! WELCOME TO SUMMER CAMP MEET YOUR DIRECTOR Kim Halvorson has worked for the YMCA at Pabst Farms for over five years. Kim has a Bachelor of Science in Education and a strong child care background. She is passionate about finding ways to provide safe and memorable experiences for the kids in her programs and strives to have a positive impact on those around her. Dear Parents: Summer is an exciting time in your child s life. Endless opportunities await them and their day is wide open. Our Summer Day Camp is the perfect place to fill their summer with fun and excitement. At the YMCA at Pabst Farms Summer Day Camp, we strive to provide a place of discovery and to create lasting memories. Our program allows your child an opportunity to improve their self esteem, have new experiences, and build friendships. Our caring staff are dedicated to providing a safe and enriching atmosphere. We are thrilled to introduce some new programs this summer as well as continue some of the old traditions that our camp was founded on. We will continue to focus on children s specific interests by offering Camper s Choice activities two days a week. In addition, we will be offering summer long Specialty Camps such as Theater and Drama, Dance, and Climbing Camp. To help our campers be better equipped to be safe in and around water, we will be offering Swim Lessons again this year as well as Wild Water Explorers for our oldest campers. When you choose the YMCA at Pabst Farms Summer Day Camp you are making an investment in your child s future by creating a solid foundation for a healthy and socially responsible lifestyle. Sincerely, MEET YOUR COORDINATOR Audra Bakalars came to the YMCA at Pabst Farms in September with a background in working with kids with special needs as well as an educational background in Psychology. Audra has a positive attitude and enthusiasm for children that is a wonderful asset to our programs. YMCA STAFF Our caring and dedicated staff... are CPR, AED, and First Aid Certified. participate in a rigorous training that focuses on several aspects of child development, child guidance, emergency procedures, and child abuse prevention. are college aged or older with an interest in education, recreation, or a similar field working with youth. Early Registration Incentive: Anyone who registers on March th will receive a YMCA drawstring bag and 2 camp T-shirts. 7 EXPLORER CAMP Entering Grades 6- Turn your summer vacation into a high-adventure experience! Campers will learn about others, their community, and the environment while participating in activities and having fun. 8 CAMPER S CHOICE ACTIVITIES Twice a week, campers can pick between two to three additional activities that they would like to participate in for 1½ hours, giving them the opportunity to try out new skills and spend time working on a craft or new activity. Examples of camper s choice programs include: Sports Duo Recyclable Art Super Heroes Jewelry Making Crazy Concoctions Pom And Dance Detective/Spy Camp Sparkles & Princesses Obstacle Course Lights, Camera, Action Mad Scientist Outdoor Skills Marble Mania Archery Flag Football Building Bonanza You can find descriptions of all camper s choice programs and the dates they are offered on the YMCA s website, along with the registration materials. TEEN LEADERSHIP PROGRAM Our summer camp teen leadership program is a progressive program that provides a great leadership and mentoring experience. The program includes a summer membership, lunch, and field trips on various days. Teens are required to submit an application and interviews will be held in the spring. A limited number of spots are available for each position. All applications are due by Friday, April 1st,. Stop by the YMCA or go online, for an application. LEADERS IN TRAINING: Entering Grades 7- Have the best of both worlds; be an Explorer Camper with your friends and start the first step of our teen leadership program as a Leader in Training. Participants will receive babysitting training as well as exposure to teamwork, service, and decision making throughout the summer. Commitment: Mandatory Trainings 6 weeks, 2 days/week; :30 am - :30 pm; Mondays and Wednesdays Fee: Register and pay tuition as an Explorer Camper. COUNSELORS IN TRAINING: Entering Grades 9- This is the second step in our Teen Leadership program. This volunteer experience is for teens with at least one year of camp or equivalent leadership experience who are ready to build leadership and mentoring skills. Commitment: Mandatory Trainings weeks, 3 days/week; :30 am - :30 pm Mondays and Wednesdays plus a day of your choice No Fee: Volunteer Position JUNIOR COUNSELORS: Entering Grades - The final step in the Teen Leadership program. This is an experience for teens who have shown extraordinary initiative and commitment to working with youth, their peers and camp staff. The have demonstrated strong leadership skills at camp, the YMCA, school, and in their community. Commitment: Mandatory Trainings weeks, days/week; This is a 30 hour per week paid position Mondays on scheduled work weeks (mandatory day of training) Your weekly work schedule will be assigned to you by the Youth & Teen Director and Camp Director Prerequisite: 2 Years as a CIT (or equivalent experience to be determined by the Camp Director and/or Youth & Teen Director)

Contact the YMCA if you are in need of financial assistance to learn more about our Strong Kids Scholarships. No one is turned away due to inability to pay. Refund/Payment Policy: There is no refund for missed days. Payments are non-refundable or transferable unless programs are cancelled by the YMCA. All payments and schedule changes are due the Tuesday prior to attending, otherwise you will be billed according to the original days you signed up for. There is a $ late fee for payments received after the due date. ACTING OUT - THEATER & DRAMA CAMP Acting Out encourages campers to explore their many characters through the exciting world of theater. Throughout the summer, our campers will learn about different elements of theater as well as play a variety of improv and theater games. They will end the summer with a talent show to showcase what they have learned. Be a part of the Climbing Camp! Campers will explore the world of climbing by learning new skills and practicing new techniques through YMCA Climb On Climbing Club! Campers will receive a climbing t-shirt and various prizes as they finish new challenges! Two trips to Adventure Rock will add to your fun as you gain more experience as a climber! DANCE CAMP Spend the summer learning new moves! Our Dance Camp introduces campers to various dance techniques including spins, jumps, and coordination. Your child will be showcased in a performance at the end of the summer. Dance Camp will be taught by Nicole Radke, a dance instructor and Y staff member. Dates: Tues (Guide) and Wed (Adventure and Club) June th - August 1th *Showcase on the evening of August 1th Times: 1:30-2:30 pm Guide & Adventure Campers 3:30 - :30 pm Club Campers Fee: Y Member $30, CP $3 (fees are in addition to camp tuition) Minimum:, Maximum: (per age group) WILD WATER EXPLORERS This new and exciting program is offered for Explorer campers. Campers will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of awesome water experiences, such as learning to stand up paddleboard, sail a tall ship on Lake Michigan, Discover Scuba diving and more! (Specific trip information will be available beginning March th.) If you love water and want to have new experiences, these trips are for you! Dates: Wednesdays, June nd - August th Times: May vary, usually 9:00 am - :00 pm Ages: Explorer Campers Fee: Y Member $60, CP $6 (fees are in addition to camp tuition) Minimum:, Maximum: SWIM LESSONS Held at the Y on Mondays This is a progressive swim program taught by a certified YMCA swim instructor. Strokes taught include front and back crawl, elementary, side, and breast stroke. Classes are grouped by age and ability. Campers will be transported and supervised by camp staff before and after lessons. YMCA comparable levels are in parentheses. Beginner (Pike/Eel/Polliwog ll): Submerge face, learn front and back floats, glides, flutter kicking and introduction to front and back crawl, lead-up to elementary back and sidestrokes. Learn basic water safety skills. Students can comfortably swim 2 lengths of the pool by the end of this level. Intermediate (Ray/Guppy/Minnow): Refine front/back crawls and elementary back and side strokes. Students will learn and refine rotary breathing and begin to learn the breaststroke. Water safety skills are built upon from previous level. Will be able to swim - 0 continuous yards using a combination of strokes by the end of this level. Advanced (Fish/Flying Fish): Students work on refining strokes learned previously and increasing endurance. At this level they are introduced to the butterfly stroke. They also learn more advanced personal safety and basic rescue skills. Lessons will be on Monday for eight weeks starting on June and going through August (there will be no class on Monday, July ). 11 JOIN THE CLUB Summer School Club Oconomowoc School District Join us for some summer fun! This program provides care for Summit Summer School Students before or after Summer School. Weekly themes, exciting projects, specialty programs and field trips will ensure a fun-filled summer for your little one. A daily snack is also provided. We will take trips to the Y on Tuesdays and field trips on Wednesdays. Registration will begin at the time of Summer School registration on March th at Oconomowoc High School. Registration materials may be found online or picked up at the Y, and all paperwork must be turned in to the YMCA. The first week s tuition must be paid at the time of registration. *All fees paid are non-refundable and non-transferable.
