We ve designed our programs to cover a wide range of ages, activities and times to ensure there is something for everyone this summer! Our counselors are all trained, enthusiastic individuals committed to providing safe, diverse, FUN programs for all campers. We screen, interview and carefully select all staff based on their ability to effectively work with children. REGISTRATION PROCESS* - APPLICATIONS ACCEPTED STARTING FEB 4, 2017 Please complete the registration form on the back cover of this guide with your selections. One of our Member Services Reps will be able to assist you with any questions and accepting your $20 non-refundable deposit/camp to register your child(ren). *NOTE: Day Camps Summer Odyssey and Camp Horizon require information above and beyond our program camp requirements, please visit our website or ask Member Services for a separate Day Camp Enrollement form for your child.

3 INCLUSION SUPPORT SERVICES Through the Ys partnerships with Access CNY and the Office of People with Developmental Disabilities, our Y is able to offer support services to children with developmental disabilities. Support staff are available in all Y summer day camp programs on a first come, first served basis providing kids with disabilities the opportunity to enjoy a successful summer camp experience in an inclusive setting. Pending approval through OPWDD, children will be provided either 1:1 or shared support during the camps, with the level of support determined on a case-bycase basis. Certain paperwork and information above and beyond the camp registration forms are necessary to submit your inclusion support request. Contact Peter Neiner, our Inclusion Coordinator, early to secure summer camp support for your child at x205. KINDER CAMPS FOR PRESCHOOLERS Our 1/2 day Kinder Camps are designed for preschool aged children. These camps focus on fine and gross motor skill development, and cultivating creativity and positive forms of self-expression while engaging in fun, social activities. MINI ARTISTS CAMP Let your mini-artist explore a variety of materials, processes and tools in the Art Studio this summer! Camps focus on building fine motor and social skills while getting creative! Different projects each week. 4 YOUTH CAMPS COMPLETED GRADES K - 2 Our Youth Camps offer 1/2 and full day options. These camps encourage development, coordination, communication and listening skills to facilitate understanding of basic concepts. Instructors will keep kids on their toes to achieve a a fun, fast-paced setting to learn, play and grow. YOUNG ARTISTS CAMP Let your budding young artist blossom in the Art Studio this summer! Camps are designed to cover a breadth of materials while building creative thinking, fine motor and social skills. Different projects each week. 5 TWEEN COMPLETED Campers will be encouraged to take an active role in their learning, developing both self-confidence and self-expression as they interact and bond with their peers. MASTER ARTISTS CAMP: CERAMICS Campers will discover the versatility of clay as they create beautiful ceramic vessels and sculptures that stretch their creativity while building a variety of artistic skills. We will cover: working with your parents, house rules, knowing your home, guidelines for staying home alone, activities to keep you busy and quick recipes. Also, being 8 years old at the YMCA is a BIG responsibility with the privilege of taking classes, going swimming, playing in the gym, or hanging out with friends all by yourself. PORTFOLIO BUILDING Designed for students who love art, this camp will improve technical skills and prepare participants for high school art classes. Open-ended projects will allow students to develop their own style and exercise their creativity. 6 DAY CAMPS GRADES K - 8 CHARACTER EDUCATION Our mission is to strengthen the community through programs that encourage healthy spirit, mind, and body. To fulfill this commitment & build character in our children, we focus on the core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect & Responsibility. STAFF & COUNSELOR TRAINING YMCA summer camp staff are carefully selected and receive more than 15 hours of extensive training including: camp policies/procedures, emergency & safety regulations, child abuse prevention, behavior strategies, First Aid & CPR, and tons of creative, fun, ageappropriate programming techniques. HEALTH & SAFETY The YMCA will consider reasonable accommodations to its policies to allow children to enjoy equal benefits of this program. Please contact the YMCA if your child may require accommodations. Summer Odyssey and Camp Horizon are both licensed and inspected twice each year by the Onondaga County Health Department. Mulroy Civic Center, 12th floor / 421 Montgomery Street, Syracuse, NY LEADERS IN TRAINING (LIT) A supervised leadership development program allowing teens who have completed 7th grade and are not yet 16 years of age to develop and enhance skills. This is offered at both Summer Odyssey and Camp Horizon. LITs participate in a well-rounded program of leadership development, activity and skills training, conflict resolution strategies, and character education. LITs will attend Orientation, develop personal goals, assist counselors with all activities, work with peers to plan/lead activities, and complete weekly challenges and evaluations. Cost: $95/week *Must commit to Monday-Friday 9:00am-4:30pm schedule for at least 5 weeks of the camp season. 8 SUMMER CAMPS 2017-SIGN UP STARTING FEB 4 REGISTRATION FORM PAYMENT Please circle each camp you would like to register your child for this summer and complete the short form to the right. Member Services will secure a camp spot with your non-refundable $20 per week per child downpayment for each camp. Payment in full is due 2 weeks prior to camp start date. To withdraw from a camp session, you must provide at least 2 weeks written notice and will be held responsible for full payment of any sessions not canceled 2 weeks in advance.
