2 Franke Park Day Camp Franke Park Day Camp provides children with enjoyable outdoor experiences in a wooded setting which foster cooperation through learning, playing, working, problem solving, and socializing together. Since 1946, Franke Park Day Camp has been serving the children of this community with an emphasis on basic camping skills, nature education, and Native American Lore. Any individual, 4-18 years of age, may register for Franke Park Day Camp, regardless of sex, color, national origin, religion, or disability. All campers must be of minimum age by June 1, Campers (with the exception of CITs) are limited to one camp session. Registering for more than one camp session will result in cancellation of the additional session(s) and a refund less processing fees. 4-5 YEAR OLD PROGRAM A thematic approach exposes young children to the concepts of seeds and plants, trees, animals, and Native Americans in this pre-camp experience. Space is limited to 40 campers per session. Due to space limitations, campers may attend only one session of camp YEAR OLD PROGRAM Nature education, basic camping skills, and Native American cultures are emphasized in the 6-8 and 9-11 year old programs. Campers enjoy a wide range of activities including hiking, fire building, outdoor cooking, swamp study, nature walks, arts and crafts, Native American rituals/dancing, games, mudsliding, etc. Space is limited to 192 campers per session. Due to space limitations, campers may attend only one session of camp. ADVANCED CAMPER PROGRAM The Advanced Camper program is open to individuals, years of age, who wish to be Junior Leaders (12 years) or Counselors-In-Training (13-18 years). The program involves day camping, overnight camping, Native American Lore, basic camping skills, canoe instruction, nature education, ecology, conservation, camp and community service projects, social activities, and assisting the Franke Park Day Camp staff. For more information and a registration packet, please call Space is limited. HOURS Day Camp begins at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. On Wednesday, camp begins at 1:00 p.m. and ends at 7:00 p.m. Before and after camp child care is available as early as 6:30 a.m. and as late as 6:00 p.m. See Camp Care. Campers should be dropped off and/or picked up at the Nature Lodge in Franke Park. WEDNESDAY EVENING PROGRAM Day Camp ends every Wednesday evening with an open house, staff introductions and a special program of songs and skits from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Parents and family members are encouraged to attend and join the fun. Franke Park Day Camp t-shirts will be available for purchase at this time. FRIDAY POW-WOWS Each session of camp closes with a powwow on Friday, from 2:00-3:00 p.m., where the campers will perform authentic Native American dances and receive their feathers and/or dog tags. The weekly pow-wows help campers prepare for the Annual Big Pow- Wow at the end of camp. Family and friends are invited to attend. CAMP CARE Before and After Camp Program An early morning and late afternoon Camp Care program is offered for campers ages Camp Care will be held before and after the regular day camping program on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. The morning session runs from 6:30 a.m. until day camp begins at 9:00 a.m. and features breakfast, games, arts and crafts, and nature hikes. The late afternoon session begins when day camp adjourns at 3:30 p.m. and runs until 6:00 p.m. Arts and crafts, games, and nature hikes are also featured in the afternoon program as well as a light snack. Each Camp Care program is $25. Space is limited. Note: Camp Care is not offered on Wednesdays. Day Camp registration is in progress. Use the registration form on page 8 or register on-line at 2

CAMP BUDDIES Children who wish to attend camp together must indicate this on the registration form, however, due to the volume of registrations and the lottery processing system, we cannot guarantee placement in the same session. MEET THE SUPERVISOR The 2018 Franke Park Day Camp supervisor is Chris Freehill. Chris is returning for his 41st year on staff and his 28th year as camp supervisor. He teaches fifth grade at Forest Park Elementary School. Chris looks forward to another great summer at camp. DIRECTIONS Franke Park is located at 3411 Sherman Blvd. in Fort Wayne. To reach Franke Park Day Camp Supervisor, Chris Freehill, please call the Day Camp at (260) (June 11-August 1). 72nd ANNUAL BIG POW-WOW Tuesday, July 31, 7:00 p.m., Franke Park Franke Park Day Campers from all sessions throughout the summer are invited back to participate in the annual Big Pow-Wow and reunite with the friends they made during camp. The program features authentic Native American dances around a big bonfire. Family and friends are invited to attend this traditional Franke Park Day Camp finale! FRANKE PARK DAY CAMP FEES The registration fees for a one-week session of camp are: Day Campers (ages 4-11)... $93 A.M. Camp Care (ages 6-12)... $25 P.M. 4 City Safari Day Camp Come explore the city and discover fun in Fort Wayne and surrounding areas. Each week of camp incorporates a different theme through field trips, guest speakers, activities, games, and arts and crafts. Kids will do a little gardening and compare life inside and outside the city. Camp also includes a Citilink bus ride to Northside pool for some fun in the sun. Join us for one week or all six as we explore downtown, admire wild animals up close, learn about habitats and how life was way back when. Pick your week(s) and get your adventure started. Limit 24 campers per week. LOCATION City Safari s base camp is located at the Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory, 1100 S. Calhoun Street in downtown Fort Wayne with staff-led excursions to points of interest within walking distance and traveling by van to exciting locations around Northeast Indiana. Campers return to the Conservatory by 4:00 pm for pick up. AGES Entering Grade 1-6 in Fall 2018 Must be age 6 years by June 1, 2018 HOURS/FEES 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m., Monday-Friday Pre-camp care, 7:00-9:00 a.m. Post-camp care, 4:00-6:00 p.m. $115/camper/week No additional charge for pre/post camp care CAMP GRADUATION Family and friends are invited to celebrate the end of each camp week with a graduation ceremony and slide show every Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. WHAT TO BRING Completed forms: pick-up authorization, medication form, discipline policy, field trip waiver, photography & sunscreen waivers, and immunization record signed by a doctor or licensed physician. This week at camp will be all about visiting the local landmarks around town. At Fox Island County Park, we ll learn how to canoe and put those skills to the test on Bowman Lake. Take advantage of what Fort Wayne has to offer and learn more about the Fort this week! Week #2...June Wonderful Wings Join us this week as we learn all about creatures with wings, such as butterflies, bats, birds and others insects! We will learn all about these winged wonders and the importance of having wings. Our trip this week takes us to Merry Lea Environmental Center in Wolf Lake to learn all about the incredible insect and other flying creatures. 4 Week #3... June Woodlands and Wetlands This week at camp will focus on the habitats of woodlands and wetlands and the plants and animals that call them home. Our trip this week takes us to Salamonie Lake near Andrews where we will see some of the woodland creatures up close! Join us as we explore these amazing habitats this week! Week #4... July 9-13 Indiana Now & Then Northeastern Indiana has a rich and fascinating history. Not only will we explore what life was like long ago, but we will learn about our current court system as well. Then, we will travel to Cook s Bison Ranch near Wolcottville to learn all about the Native Americans and the North American Bison. Join us as we explore daily life today and long ago. Week #5...July What s for Lunch? Ever wonder where our food comes from? Two sources that we will explore this week are farms and gardens. Our weekly field trip takes us to DeCamp s Gardens in Albion where we will learn about the farm to table movement. Join us as we get up close with plants and even some farm animals this week at camp! Week #6...July Wild About Animals This week is for animal lovers! We will learn about animals from around the globe during our final week at camp. Our field trip takes us to Black Pine Animal Sanctuary to see wild animals that have been rescued from challenging situations. Join us this week as we take a walk on the wild side with the animals!

5 Farmin Fun Day Camp Come spend a week on the farm! Our Farmin Fun Day Camp provides a stimulating, healthy and beautiful environment where you will learn about soil, plants, animals and the source of our food. Campers will be able to continue the cycle of farm-to-table in our new teaching kitchen. The camp integrates hands-on farming such as gardening and animal care, cooperative games, and nature exploration with other typical summer fun activities for a memorable and diverse summer camp experience. You will care for farm animals; hike in the woods; play in the creek; wash, dye and felt wool from one of our sheep; enjoy hayrides around the farm and much more! LOCATION Farmin Fun Day Camp is held at Salomon Farm Park, 817 W. Dupont Rd. in Fort Wayne. Keep a look out for this ! (If you do not have an address on file your confirmation will come in the mail.) F.I.T. Farmers in Training is designed to provide children ages 12+ a more active role in the care of livestock, vegetable gardening, hands-on beekeeping, blacksmith demonstrations and campfire cookouts on Fridays. Farmers in Training harvest and sell their vegetables at the Farmers Market in addition to participating in games and other fun activities. C.I.T. Counselor in Training is for campers years of age who have completed 2 weeks of F.I.T. Counselors in Training are role models for the younger campers. The program is designed to train youth how to be confident leaders among their peers. C.I.T.s will have opportunities to learn important teambuilding, leadership, and agriculture skills as they assist camp counselors in leading activities such as beekeeping, blacksmithing, gardening and animal care. The program is limited to 8 campers per week. Each camper will be requred to provide two references to complete their registration. See note below for details). 5 Easy Ways to Register 1) On-Line Register on-line at If you do not already have a user ID and password or have forgotten them, call or On-line registrations are processed as you register with no time delay. 2) By Mail Simply complete the day camp registration form in this brochure (or a copy of it) and mail to the address above. Please use a separate registration form for each camper. 3) By Fax FAX your completed registration form to (260) Be sure to include your Visa, MasterCard or Discover number, expiration date and CVV code. Available 24 hours a day. 4) Drop Box If our office is closed, you may drop your registration in the 24-hour drop box located at the front entrance of our building at 705 E. State Blvd. 5) In Person You may register in person at the Parks and Recreation Department, 705 E. State Blvd., (corner of State and Parnell), Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. We cannot accept day camp registrations over the phone. Questions may be directed to the zoo at education@kidszoo.org or Parks & Recreation Refund Policy Full refunds less a processing fee of $5 or 10% (whichever is greater) will be granted to individuals if requested before the day the camp session begins. Refunds requested less than one day prior to the start of the camp session may be granted only for illness or medical reasons. These refunds will be pro-rated and issued in the form of a credit to your account with us, which may then be applied to a future purchase. Please allow 4-6 weeks for processing refunds. Visa, MasterCard and Discover refunds are credited to your account immediately. Things to Know Before You Sign Up Registration for day camps opened on February 7. Registrations are processed in the order they are received. Space is limited and placement in any given session cannot be guaranteed. If the session(s) for which you have registered is full, you will be notified by phone so you may choose another session, be placed on a waiting list or request a refund. On-line registrations are accepted immediately with no time delay. Checks should be made out to Board of Park Commissioners. If you are registering for other Parks and Recreation programs in addition to day camp, please submit a separate check for the camps. We accept Visa, MasterCard and Discover.
