5 CAMP INFORMATION CHARACTER IS WHAT MATTERS CHARACTER COUNTS Character is what matters to us at the Y. Everyday we focus on building character and instilling YMCA core values are at the center of YMCA camp programming. Building character and instilling YMCA core values are at the center of YMCA camp programming. At summer camp your camper will learn: CARING: Putting others first. Being kind and expressing gratitude. HONESTY: Keeping their promises. Building a good reputation and being loyal. RESPECT: Being courteous and polite. Having good manners and valuing others. RESPONSIBILITY: Always do your best. Be accountable for your choices PARENT TESTIMONIALS Means a lot to leave my child each day in capable hands where he is safe and having fun. Loved that my child was involved with reading buddies at camp! It was important to me that she still can work on her reading during the summer. We are very pleased with the Y Summer Camp. This was our first experience with the Y and son loved it! Loved the Community Service projects that my teen was involved with this summer! Daughter can recite the core values and has an understanding of what they mean. The field trips are tremendous! Water parks! Traveling around Chicago! What kid wouldn't love that? The YMCA is great. My child loves the activities and the staff. She doesn't want to be anywhere else. Keeps the kids BUSY and tired when they get home. The staff is upbeat and wired with energy in the mornings and throughout the day. It's a great value for the quality of programming. I am very impressed with the staff, events and organization. In addition, the activities are outstanding. My son loves swimming under water now. I appreciate the most is knowing I don't have worry about my child when I am at work. Having a Director with a background in Special Education is a big plus for me. WHY CHOOSE THE Y FOR YOUR CHILD'S SUMMER? The YMCA knows children. We are professional and our camps offer things no parent can do on their own. Children need to spend time outdoors, practicing social and decision making skills that are new to them while being inspired by "heroes" -- the YMCA Camp Counselors. Our camps are safe. We have value-based programming focused on caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. We hope your family can become part of our family. At the YMCA, our Camps are ACA accredited, which means that we maintain the highest standards regarding program quality. We believe the most important elements of a positive camp experience are the safety and well-being of your child. Counselors-to-campers ratios: Camper Age Ratio 5 1 to to to 10 5 STAFF Camp counselors are mature, caring, energetic individuals who have a genuine love for children. The majority of our camp staff are over 18. All employees are carefully selected and trained in YMCA Camp Leadership, CPR, First Aid, and YMCA Child Abuse Prevention, Blood Borne Pathogens, Child Development and Group Management training. Daily supervision and leadership are provided by YMCA Program Directors. Many of our camp staff are experienced, returning staff who are working on degrees in education. Numerous staff work during the school year in our before- and after-school Y Safe 'n Sound Program and are familiar faces to the children. All applicants go through an extensive background check prior to hire. DAILY PICK UP: For your child s safety, ID s must be presented daily at sign out.

If you are interested in being a camp counselor someday, this is an opportunity you don't want to miss! Counselor In Training (CIT) is a program for teens desiring future leadership roles as summer camp counselors at YMCA camps. The CIT program is an advanced program for those who have attended camp for at least one summer. The training provides an interactive experiential learning environment for teens going into grades 9 and 10. The philosophy behind the program is to provide an inside view into how camp runs, and the responsibilities of the leadership behind camp. CIT's will learn much of the same material covered during our summer seasonal staff training and they will "shadow" a senior counselor, assisting them in program activities, lessons, field trips, and special event days. The CIT program is a great opportunity for exceptional campers to develop their leadership skills. Our goal is to provide our CIT's with positive experiences, which will enhance their personal growth and build self-esteem. See locations on next page.
