YMCA Summer Camps provide unique quality adventures each day that will fill your child s summer with action and adventure. Here s a list of the most important reasons to send your kids to camp. We are proud to partner with the American Camping Association to offer your children the safest experience possible. Achieving ACA accreditation is very significant as our camps and staff are continually evaluated and reviewed on over 300 standards for health, safety and program quality. To learn more about what our ACA accreditation means visit ACA RATIOS Camper Age Camper-to-Staff Ratio 6:1 8:1 10:1 STAFF Camp counselors are mature, caring, energetic individuals who have a genuine love for children. The majority of our camp staff is over 18. All camp staff are: Carefully selected Put through an extensive background check DCFS-mandated reporters Undergo a minimum of 40 hours of training annually, including: YMCA Camp Leadership First Aid, CPR and AED YMCA Child Abuse Prevention Blood-borne Pathogens Child Development and Group Management Training Emergency Preparedness Many of our camp staff are experienced, returning staff who are working on degrees in education. 6 REGISTRATION Become a Y member and save on most camp fees! Registration forms are available at all of our branches as well as on our website. Annually, camp registration paperwork must be completed before you register your child for camp. Pay by cash, check, Visa, Mastercard, Discover or American Express. A $25 non-refundable deposit* per week will hold your child s spot in each week of camp. (*Sports camp fees are due in full at the time of registration and deposits do not apply to Zoofari, Kindergarten Camp and Safari Club at the Fry Family YMCA.) Parent handbooks with specific information regarding you child s camp will be distributed prior to the first day of camp. It will contain details of your child s specific camp, such as rain sites, field trip information, weekly themes if applicable, attire and additional parent responsibilities. Registration Dates: February 1, YMCA Members February 15, Community Participants CHILD CARE ASSISTANCE (CCAP) & YMCA FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE The YMCA accepts Child Care Assistance (CCAP) funds. Child Care Assistance (CCAP) is a child care financial assistance program provided by the Illinois Department of Human Service for working families. Don t wait! The process for applying can take up to 45 days for new applicants to receive approval. Families will need to provide household income to qualify. Once you apply for CCAP assistance we require a confirmation receipt that DHS has received your application. We must have an approval letter before the first week of camp. After you are accepted in the program you are responsible for paying the parent assigned monthly co-pay each month IN ADDITION to the differential. The differential is the daily cost of our program less the daily rate paid by (CCAP).If you qualify, your assistance can be applied for all of your weeks of camp. If you do not qualify you will receive a denial letter. Submit the denial letter to us and then you can apply for Financial Assistance through the YMCA. YMCA assistance is available for those needing help to pay for camp. Assistance is based on annual income and family size. Funds are limited and are available on a first come first serve timeline. To apply for Financial Assistance, complete a Financial Assistance Application, provide a copy of your Federal 1040 and a letter explaining your financial situation and return to the YMCA. All campers receiving financial assistance will need to have a youth program pass or family membership. Financial Assistance must be set up before registering your child for camp in order to have the scholarship applied to the camp fees. Once a financial aid application has been submitted with all of the required documentation, there is a 10 business day processing period. 7 PAYMENT INFORMATION A receipt will be issued confirming deposit or payment for each child and each camp in which the child is registered. You will be invoiced for the sessions your child is registered, if you are not on bank draft. Payment in full is required two weeks prior to the start of each camp (Fry, Kroehler and Y Safe n Sound). Bank draft is an option for paying your camp balance at Fry, Kroehler and Safe n Sound. There are no credits or refunds for missed days. Payment for camp must be received by due date or your registration is subject to cancellation, deposit forfeited and placement given to another camper on the waitlist. If your child is on a waitlist, we will hold your completed forms and will contact you regarding openings. Late registrations received within 4 days of a camp session (Thu-Mon) will pay a $10 program fee. EARLY BIRD SAVINGS! Take advantage of the Early Bird Savings when you register by April 23! (Cannot be combined with any other specials or discounts.) Early Bird pricing will not be honored after the deadline this includes any week changes or adding additional weeks. Don t worry - you re invited too! Feel free to bring your family and friends to this special day. Liability Statement The YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago does not carry individual camper insurance. It is the responsibility of the camper and his or her family to provide insurance. Cancellations/Refunds/Credits Camps that are cancelled by the registrant will be issued a credit voucher or refund, minus the deposit/registration fee. A $20 service fee will be applied for refunds for Fry and Kroehler. Credit vouchers may be redeemed for future YMCA services, merchandise or a reduction of initial membership payments for community participants within one year of the date of issue. The YMCA reserves the right to cancel a camp when it does not meet minimum enrollment requirements. (We will attempt to notify everyone affected in advance and will help find another camp option that meets your needs.) Refunds for day camp and specialty camps are issued if your child is ill and has a doctor s note to accompany the request. Full refund minus the $25 deposit will be issued. DAILY PICK-UP To ensure that all campers are safe when departing from camp, we ask that all authorized adults who are listed on the Participant Emergency Information Packets have their photo ID ready to be checked every day at sign-out. 9 GENERAL INFORMATION NAPERVILLE YMCA SUMMER CAMP OPTIONS Camp is comprised of 12 weeks of a variety of camp activities beginning May 29-August 17. Some locations may not run due to district school schedules and emergency days. Each week is assigned a specific theme for the week. Camp is offered for youth 4 years to teens. Registration for camp will begin on February 1st, CAMP HOURS & EXTENDED CARE Traditional Camp runs from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Extended Care starts as early as 6:30 a.m. and ends in the evening as late as 6 p.m. for some camps. While Extended Care is less structured than regular camp hours, campers will be supervised and remain engaged in a variety of activities throughout the program. 10 KROEHLER FAMILY YMCA With more than 40 years of camp experience in the Naperville area, the Kroehler Family YMCA provides campers with days filled with outdoor adventures, swimming and water safety, Healthy Kids curriculum, team sports, group games, creative art experiences, camper s choice activities and weekly field trips. We are also proud to be an ACA Explore 30 reading program camp. We have 30 minutes of our day set aside for individual or group reading time to help prevent summer learning loss. Our energetic counselors have years of experience and quality training to ensure your camper has a great camp experience. Creating memorable summers, that s the Y camp tradition! Participants will receive a camp T-shirt. T-shirts are distributed the first day of camp. Daily Pick-Up: For your child s safety, IDs must be presented daily at sign-out, without exception. What to Bring: Backpack with a lunch bag, 2 healthy snacks ( just one for half day camps), a water bottle, sunscreen, bug spray, and a swimsuit and towel everyday. All campers will receive one camp shirt for the summer. Additional shirts may be available for a fee. CAMP HEDGEHOG Children ages 4 to 5 Location Kroehler Family YMCA 34 S. The ideal location for camp, Greene Valley Forest Preserve is equipped with large shade trees, open fields, walking paths and open-air pavilions. Activity sessions rotate during the summer, but some of our choices include: Orienteering (compass skills) Archery (4th grade & up) Nature Explorers Safety Skills (basic first aid) Creative Art Experiences All-Stars Sports (rotating sports skill clinic) Book Club Drama Health & Fitness (including yoga, hiking and healthy snacks) The counselors are top-notch. They are engaged with the children, not talking with other counselors while working. They encourage the children to be leaders and to be actively involved. My daughter said she would rather be at Camp Kodiak than at school! She is even considering the CIT program with hopes to work with Camp Bear Paw in two years. Washington Street, Naperville Y Be Fit Fitness Camp takes your traditional sports and mixes them all up to teach kids that fitness can be fun. It s not about how much weight you can lift, how fast you can run or how far you can hit the ball it s about getting moving and having fun while you do it. Daily Activities include: Team sports, small group activities, partner sports and individual workouts Weekly active field trips such as swimming, rock climbing, hiking and more Participants will learn and take part in different exercise formats, proper strength training techniques and making healthy food choices Camp in Session: 9 a.m.-4 p.m. (M-F) Extended Care Hours: 7 a.m.-9 a.m. and 4 p.m.-6 p.m. CIT (COUNSELOR-IN-TRAINING) (Entering Grades 9th & 10th) If you are interested in being a camp counselor someday, this is an opportunity you don t want to miss! Counselor In Training (CIT) is a program for teens desiring future leadership roles as summer camp counselors at YMCA camps. The CIT program is an advanced program for those who have attended camp for at least one summer. The training provides an interactive experiential learning environment for teens. The philosophy behind the program is to provide an inside view into how camp runs, and the responsibilities of the leadership behind camp. CITs will learn much of the same material covered during our summer seasonal staff training, and they will shadow a senior counselor, assisting them in program activities, lessons, field trips, and special event days. Come join us this summer and stamp your Passport to Adventure. Each week will be filled with adventure and imagination as we play, create and explore through our new innovative themes. At Summer Adventure we will get messy, be mad scientists and celebrate each other along with so much more. Our professionally trained staff undergo days of extensive training that includes CPR/First Aid, child development, and curriculum design, giving them the tools necessary to guide your child through a fun and safe summer. Our staff are also well experienced - many are returning from past summers and/or have experience with our before and after school programs. They are caring and committed to ensuring each camper has a wonderful daily camp experience and grows personally. 16 SUMMER ADVENTURE EXPLORERS - CAMP KINDERGARTEN (Entering Kindergarten in Fall 2018) Location TBD Summer Adventure Explorers is a perfect way to help young campers have a great summer while preparing for kindergarten. Campers will develop 21st-century learning skills such as listening, conflict resolution, sharing and independence within our daily activities. Camp includes age-appropriate sports, nature projects, hands-on science, art, dance, weekly swim lesson and swim trip and weekly field trip with Trailblazers Campers. The staff working with Explorers have been chosen for their skills in working with children in this age group, their ability to positively engage campers, and their commitment to working with children today and in the future as teachers, social workers and more. Campers need to bring a healthy snack, sack lunch and non-spill water bottle every day. Children must be potty trained to attend. SUMMER ADVENTURE TRAILBLAZERS CAMP (Entering Grades 1st-4th) Location TBD We offer enriching activities that meet all interests and personalities. We offer weekly specialty clubs where campers can choose from an array of different skills to build upon; we explore the arts through music, creative art experiences, and drama; we enjoy physical activity with games and specific skill building; and we work to support campers growth and empower interpersonal and teamwork skills through an array of activities. Summer Adventure campers will also enjoy an exciting weekly field trip that will tie in with our weekly themes, as well as enjoy two days of swimming fun at different local water parks. We are also proud to be part of the ACA Explore 30 reading program and a partner with the Naperville Library to enhance our summer reading initiatives through a multitude of activities and incentives to help campers increase their reading skills. Our children were in Camp Kindergarten and really became ready for Kindergarten over the summer. They had a blast! Swim lessons for the Kinder s was a great idea. 23 FRY FAMILY YMCA The Fry Family YMCA summer day camps keep campers engaged, safe, healthy and learning. At the Fry Y, we focus on your child as a whole, including sports, swimming instruction, exploration of the community and developing lifelong friendships. We emphasize seamlessly weaving literacy, math and science into our weekly schedules, preventing summer learning loss and making sure our camp kids are ready to return to school in the fall. Above all, we focus on making summer fun! What do we do at Safari Club? We re busy, busy, busy! We love to go on field trips! Campers travel 4 out of 5 days to a field trip destination such as water parks, amusement parks, museums, mini-golf courses, skating rinks, movie theaters, state parks, forest preserves, the library and more. We are also proud to be an ACA Explore 30 reading program camp. We have 30 minutes of our day set aside for individual or group reading time to help prevent summer learning loss. Safari Club campers get one swim instruction day and a free swim day every week at the Fry Family YMCA pool as well as Campers Choice activities which may include a combination of sports floor hockey, soccer, hip hop dance, tae kwon do, Zumba, fun yoga and much more. Other activities include counselor-led creative art experiences, team building games, group activities and best of all making lasting memories and building new friendships! Where do we go on field trips? We go all over the Chicagoland area and Western Suburbs! Every week you will be given a weekly schedule of where we re going, activities, and what to bring, these also can be found on our website. We will provide schedules for 2 weeks at a time every Wednesday prior to the following week. Some field trips examples are, the Chicago Children s Museum, Philips Water Park, a theatre production, Shedd Aquarium, a Chicago sports team game, Six Flags Great America (Safari 2 only) and more. What do I bring to camp? Bring yourself, your enthusiasm and lots of energy! Campers also need to bring 2 healthy snacks, 1 sack lunch and 1 water bottle everyday. No lunches will be provided by Safari Club. A one-piece swimsuit for girls and swim trunks for boys and towel is needed on swim days and water park days. When registering, a one-time non-refundable registration fee of $40 will be due. This fee includes three Safari Club t-shirts for your camper.
