Counselors will bring all notes to the camp office after morning assembly (flagpole). MESSAGES AND FLYERS: While camp is in session: Contact camp administrative staff by or phone. EMERGENCY BROADCASTING: In an emergency, parents are contacted via an automated alert system that calls and/or s camp families. If a weather event necessitates a temporary cessation of dismissal activity, an will be sent from the camp office to alert parents. If it becomes necessary for camp to close, messages will also be posted on our website. CAMP INFORMATION: copies of our informational flyers and forms are available at our website:

Copies of Barrie Camp information sheets and forms are avai1able at our website: 2. GEAR CHECKLIST Campers carry their backpacks and keep their belongings with them throughout the day (exception: Lower Campers), so it is best to pack only what is needed and keep their backpack as light as possible. Essential items are listed below. Since the camp provides everything else needed during the day, valuable belongings, cell phones, and any other electronic devices should be left at home. o Backpack Every camper must have a backpack for their belongings. Children in Lower Camp store their backpacks in their homeroom. Older campers keep their bags with them throughout the day. Wheeled backpacks are not recommended because not all parhs are paved. o Footwear Footwear must be suitable for all camp activities including sports and riding. Shoes that completely cover and protect the foot are required. An extra pair of lightweight sandals, flip-flops, or water shoes can be worn at the pool. o Lunches and Snacks Lunches should be packed in a soft disposable, recyclable, or crushable bag made of paper or cloth. Boldly print your child's name on the lunchbag. Lunches are collected by counselors first thing in the morning and kept refrigerated until lunchtime. Fruit drinks are provided to any campers who need them at lunchtime. If a camper forgets to bring a lunch, the camp will provide a substitute lunch. If you would like to provide a group snack to celebrate your camper's birthday, please contact a Unit Director to make arrangements. The camp must have a written list of all ingredients in the snack. Quite a few campers have dietary restrictions and we have to make sure accommodations are made. o Swimsuit and Towel Pack swimsuits in a waterproof stuffsack or large zip-loc so once they are wet they can be kept isolated from dry items in the backpack. Some campers prefer to bring two bathing suits so they can put on a dry suit for their second swim. o Drinking Water Container [MANDATORY] Drinking water is readily available in all camp locations. o A Hat, Cap or Visor o Sunscreen Please refer to the Sunscreen Authorization Form. This form is required if sunscreen is to be applied to a camper during the camp day. o Set of Extra Clothes (Lower Campers Only) Children in Lower Camp keep a full set of extra clothes in their room. Camp T-Shirts Most campers like to have a camp shirt even though they are not required to wear one every day. Extra shirts can be purchased in the camp office when you stop by, or, send a note and check with your camper and request that we fit your camper for a shirt. Cash or checks only. Tip: Use zip-locs for chilled, wet or frozen items to keep them separate from other food items. Campers are free to keep their own snacks in their backpacks and eat them whenever they like throughout the day. The camp provides a morning snack to Lower campers and a popsicle to all campers at the end of the day. There are pizza days at the end of each week. Campers can choose to order pizza instead of bringing a lunch. Pizza day is on Friday weeks 1, 3, 5, and 7 and on Thursday weeks 2, 4, 6, and 8. Pizza is usually $1 per slice. Child's T-Shirt $12

3. CAMPER HEALTH Carefully read the Health Form Instructions, Information, and Policies information sheet. There are three main forms to be completed before your child attends camp and a number of other forms to be completed as needed for medications, sunscreen, and allergies. These forms are mailed with your confirmation packet and copies are on our website. We recommend that parents double-check all health forms prior to forwarding them to the camp. Corrections and additions must be made before a camper enters the program. Prior to the camp season, reminders are sent to parents if any forms are outstanding. HEAD LICE: Children with head lice are sent home and not permitted to return to camp or use the bus until all active lice are gone and every nit removed. A follow-up screening by the camp nurse is required prior to re-entry into the camp program. Please refer to the following article for information on head lice: htm CODE RED DAYS The camp monitors air quality online, using the E.P.A. website: On Code Red days, air quality is usually fine in the morning and worsens throughout the day as temperatures rise. Air quality usually reaches the "Red" level after the regular camp day is over. Nonetheless, the camp takes appropriate precautions to protect the campers. Extra water stations are added, hoses and sprinklers are set up to augment swim times, outdoor activities are modified, and some activities are brought indoors. Campers are carefully watched for signs of heat exhaustion. 4. OPEN HOUSES AND VISITS CAMP FAMILY OPEN HOUSE Saturday, June 18, pm to 4 pm You are invited to bring friends and family to the open house. No r.s.v.p. is required. Staff members offer tours, provide parents with copies of group rosters, double-check paperwork, and make sure your camper is all set. It is a nice way to acclimate your child prior to the start of camp. Once camp is open, parents are always welcome to visit. It is the best way to see camp activity and get an impression of a camper's day. The camp prefers that parents plan to visit after a camper completes a full week of camp. This helps campers to adjust on their own with the assistance of counselors. When visiting, come directly to the Camp Office to pick up a visitor's badge. The camp is always concerned about the safety and security of campers and must be aware of all visitors, even if they are parents. Staff will help you to locate your child's group. Parents should make their visits short (an hour or so) and feel welcome to come back more than once. It is important to be a casual observer because staff members will be busy with campers. If you would like to speak with a counselor we can have them call you back at the end of the day or schedule a conference time. Alternatively, since many of you lead busy lives and might find it difficult to come for a visit, a unit directors can give you a call to provide a verbal snapshot of your camper's day. Unit Directors routinely make observations of camp groups, check on the wellbeing of children, and gather information for parents. They will respond to your concerns and intervene in the affairs of a camp group if needed. The camp does not prepare written reports, preferring instead to have direct contact with parents. Our Barrie Mission: Empower individuals to expand their intellectual abilities, develop their creative talents, and discover their passions to make a positive impact in the rapidly changing world.

5. PROGRAM AND SCHEDULES Families like to know what is coming up in their camper's week so on Mondays group schedules are sent home via and hard copies are given to campers. Schedules are created the week before they are needed so they cannot be sent home any sooner. If there are questions regarding the schedule or any camp program, call the extension for unit directors. They can also provide contact information for Specialty Camp directors. Schedule Barrie Camp 1 9:00-9:20 2 9:35-10: :20-10: :05-11: :50-12: :35-1:10 7 1:20-1:55 8 2:05-2:40 9 2:50-3:25 Week: Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday F L A G P O L E ()6. SPECIAL EVENT DAYS Special Event Days are day-long events that occur every second Friday during the camp season. Each day has a unique schedule, an extended Flagpole, and special activities. Parents are always welcome to come watch the Flagpole. Campers in Lower Camp participate in some of the special activities planned for the day and have alternative, age-appropriate activities of their own. Olympic Day - July 1 Klondike Day - July 15 Neptune Day - July 29 Kahua Luau - August 12 SWIM PROGRAM Campers entering Grade One and above swim twice a day and campers in Lower Camp and Specialty Camps swim once a day. Campers are swim tested when they arrive at camp to assess their skill level and to determine where they can safely swim in our pool. Swim bands are used to identify campers who are permitted to swim in deeper areas of the pool. Refer to the reverse of the Camper Profile for swim test procedures and levels. Our pool ranges from 2.5 feet to 5 feet and the shallow end is ideal for non-swimmers and beginning swimmers. Basic swim instruction is offered during regularly scheduled morning swim times twice a week to nonswimmers and beginning swimmers. Swim instruction is not provided for more advanced swimmers and campers in specialty programs. Lifeguards are fully credentialed and have demonstrated rescue competence. The number of guards on duty is determined by the number of swimmers in the pool. Typically, there are three guards on duty and at least an equal number of counselors assigned to be "lookouts." Olympic Day The Green, Yellow, and White teams compete against one another to win ribbons and medals, emphasizing teamwork, unity, and sportsmanship The three day event starts with the Opening Ceremonies on Wednesday and finishes with the Closing Ceremonies on Friday. Klondike Day The week long contest between the Trappers (wear red) and Sourdoughs (wear blue) culminates on Friday with a gold rush, head to heads, and relay race. Claim your stake, defend your properties, and hold on to your Klons! Neptune Day The Slime Slugger wants to take over the camp and his rivals and camp defenders (our staff dressed up as fun and recognizable characters) battle by the pool. After King Neptune saves us from slime, we celebrate his victory with an afternoon fair. Kahua Luau Say farewell to friends and enjoy your favorite activity one last time. Our best staff is honored at Flagpole, a barbecue feast for all, and an afternoon Carnival to share with friends!

7. OVERNIGHTS AND FIELD TRIPS OVERNIGHT CAMPOUTS Campers in Middle and Upper Camp are eligible for on-campus or off-campus Overnights. Attendance is entirely optional and campers should not feel obligated or pressured to attend. Middle campers have overnights on campus at Barrie, spending the evening in 4 to 6-person tents. They are supervised by the Middle Camp Overnight Director, an assistant, and counselors. They have a regular day in camp on the day of the overnight and a regular day the camp the day after the overnight. Upper campers have off-campus overnights and stay at group campsites within state and national parks. These overnights are led by the Upper Camp Overnight Director, an assistant, and counselors. They leave campus by 10:30 am on the day of the overnight and return by 2:00 pm the following day. Hard copies of overnight registration forms are sent home with Middle and Upper campers on their first day of camp. Electronic copies of the overnight forms and schedule are ed shortly before camp opens. Parents will receive confirmation of enrollment and are immediately contacted if space is not available. The fee for an Upper Camper is $60 per night. The fee for a Middle Camper is $40 per night. To be eligible for overnights all necessary camp medical forms must be on file with the camp. FIELD TRIPS: Upper camp groups are occasionally scheduled for a field trip so they have the option to enjoy a fun and stimulating day off campus. Parents are notified of the plans for a field trip by a week ahead. Field trips are chaperoned by a director and a set of counselors. Campers who wish not to participate are placed with another group on the day of the trip. Weather may affect the final destination and the camp office will notify parents of any changes. A nominal co-payment by campers might be required if they go to a destination with a high entrance fee. 8. SUPERVISION Supervision is available from 7:00 AM to 8:30 AM and from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM. A Supervision flyer is included in your confirmation packet if you have chosen this option. Parents who would like their children to drop in occasionally can call the camp office to make arrangements. The drop in charge for mornings is $15 and for afternoons is $20. There is an additional $15 charge if a camper uses the service without notice. 9. TRANSPORTATION Transportation to and from camp is available from convenient pick-up points around the area. A Transportation Information and Agreement is included in your confirmation packet if you have chosen this option. Parents who would like their children to use the bus occasionally can call the camp office to make arrangements. The charge for one-way service is $20; twoway service is $30; and two-way with Late Bus is $ LOST AND FOUND Use waterproof ink, a permanent name tag, or a name stamp to identify all personal belongings and articles of clothing. Lost and Found is kept in the small gym at the top of the hill. The room is staffed throughout the camp day and can be called at if you would like us to look for something that is missing. The door to the lost and found room is open before and after regular camp hours from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. Camp groups are regularly taken to the lost and found to look for missing items. 11. EXTENDING ENROLLMENT Happy campers often want to stay longer at camp and we are happy to add weeks during the summer. There will always be room for happy campers. Send the director, Peter Vogdes, an request. Specify the weeks to be added and the method of payment. If you paid by credit card when enrolling, we still have your credit card information on file.

12. ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL MORNING ARRIVAL 7:00 am to 8:30 am - AM Supervision 8:30 am to 9:00 am - Regular Drop-off Time All campers are dropped off at the bus circle at the top of the hill, either by car or bus. Vehicles drive counterclockwise around the circle to the camper arrival station. Counselors are present to help unload campers. Lower campers are escorted to their homerooms. To help arrival activity move as quickly as possible, it is best for drivers to remain in their car and let staff help campers out of their cars. Camp staff will make sure that each camper safely finds their counselors and gets to their group. The camp will do everything possible to make every camper feel at home as soon as they arrive. If a camper has severe and long-lasting separation anxiety, the camp will call parents immediately. On a Lower Camper's first day, parents are welcome to escort their children to homerooms. Since parking space is limited, drop-off time should be no more than 10 minutes. AFTERNOON DISMISSAL 4:00 pm to 4:30 pm - Regular Pick-up Time For camper safety, the road to the top of the hill is CLOSED to all traffic from 3:30 pm until buses have departed and dismissal begins. Buses are loaded from 3:40 pm until 3:55 pm. Each camper is checked on the bus and buses do not leave until every rider is accounted for. Every effort is made to have buses depart by 4:00 pm. Campers departing by car are dismissed from the bus circle at the top of the hill after buses have departed. On your approach to the bus circle, camp staff will request the name of your camper. [It is helpful to have your camper's name written on a Pick-Up Pass.] Your child's name is then announced over a P.A. system and counselors will bring your camper(s) to the car. Vehicles drive counter-clockwise around the bus circle. Camp staff will bring your child to the car. Please do not get out of your car or park and walk over to find your child! 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm - PM Supervision Lower Camp Pick-up: Parents park in the top lot and walk to retrieve their children from their supervision room in the Lower Camp building (McDermott Hall). Middle, Upper, and Specialty Camps: Parents queue their cars in front of the first pavilion (across from the maintenance garage). Camp staff will locate your camper and bring him/her to your vehicle. Weather Conditions All dismissal activity stops when a thunderstorm is passing overhead. Your patience is appreciated. Please do not get out of your car to retrieve your child. Pick-up Passes: Families who will be picking campers up by car should use a Pick-up Pass or a card that shows the names of the campers being picked up. Use a wide-tipped sharpie pen to write the camper's name so it can be read from a distance. Pick-up Passes are also handed out during dismissal and available in the camp office. Carpools: If families have arranged a carpool, write the camp a note listing the participants. Arrangements can be made to have all of the campers in a carpool waiting for pick-up together. Dismissal Changes and Early Pick-Ups: Inform the camp office by 12:00 pm, or send a handwritten note first thing in the morning to inform the camp of dismissal changes or special arrangements for the day. All campers departing prior to 4:00 pm must be picked up and signed out from the camp office. For safety and security reasons, do not make plans to pick up your child early between 3:25 pm and 4:00 pm. RULES OF THE ROAD THE SPEED LIMIT IS 15 MPH DO NOT PASS OTHER CARS WAITING IN LINE NOR DRIVE ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD DO NOT USE YOUR CELL PHONE COME TO A FULL STOP AT EACH STOP SIGN COURTEOUSLY YIELD TO OTHER CARS WAITING AT THE STOP SIGN ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ONE-LANE BRIDGE STAY IN YOUR CAR OUR CAMPUS IS SMOKE-FREE NOTE: Don't be surprised by slight delays on Mondays when new campers and their families are becoming accustomed to our dismissal procedures.
