Highlights include an accessible picnic area. The day use area was designed with an earthen pier, a pedestrian bridge and a boat ramp for non-motorized boats. The Parson s Mountain Lake Trail and Parson s Mountain Tower Trail incorporate the upstate s rich history and diverse wildlife habitat. From Anderson, travel south on Hwy 28 to the four-way stop in Abbeville. Turn right and travel 3.3 miles to the intersection of Hwy 28 and Hwy 72. Continue on Hwy 28 for 2.1 miles. Known for its lake fishing and large meeting facility, Barnwell features five vacation cabins, a 25-site camping area and a nature trail. The two park lakes provide visitors the opportunity to appreciate the natural features while enjoying the recreational opportunities on the park. Barnwell State Park is located seven miles NE of the city of Barnwell and 3 miles SW of the town of Blackville on SC 3. From Interstate 20: Take exit 18 or 22 to Aiken. From Aiken take Hwy. 78 East to Blackville. Turn right onto Hwy. 3 and travel 2 miles. Park is on the right. Proceed approximately one mile, the park will be on the left. From I-85: Take exit 19 to Hwy. 76 S. Go approximately two miles and take the Hwy 28 bypass. Continue approximately five miles and turn onto Hwy 81 S. for approximately 30 miles. The park entrance will be on the right. 46 Maintenance Shop Rd Calhoun Falls, SC (864) Calhoun Falls State Park sits along several pine-covered points extending out into sparsely-developed Lake Russell. The Calhoun Falls campground is one of the most coveted in the park system, with spacious RV and tent sites complete with forested, shoreline views of the lake. 14 Canadys (City of Walterboro) Colleton Campground Park # A paddler s paradise, this Lowcountry park sits a short distance from I-95 and connects to Givhans Ferry State Park via 21 miles of blackwater river. Head E. toward Canadys on HWY. 61. Go 3 mi. to Hwy. 15. Take Hwy. 15 N. (left) for.5 mi. The park is on the left. Rate: $15-$ Wayside Ln Walterboro, SC (843) Colleton State Park provides easy access to the Edisto River, one of the longest free flowing, black water rivers in the country, and serves as the headquarters for the Edisto River canoe and kayak trail. Restrooms, showers, play area, outdoor games, boat rentals, golf Rate: $ State Park Rd Cheraw, SC (866) Lake Juniper Hiking, biking, boating, fishing, sightseeing, horseback riding Cheraw State Park uniquely combines outstanding recreational opportunities: a championship 18-hole golf course designed by Tom Jackson, equestrian trails, hiking and biking trails, rustic cabins with full amenities, group camps and campsites near Lake Juniper from which you can enjoy boating, canoeing and fishing. The park also protects habitats for the threatened Red Cockaded woodpecker. Cheraw State Park is located four miles south of the town of Cheraw on Hwy 52. Turn right off Hwy 52 at the main park entrance for the golf course, cabins, picnic area, shelters, community/recreation building, boat rentals and park office. For the campground, boat landing, horse area and group camps continue on Hwy 52 to the next park entrance road located on the right. From Hwy. 72 and Leeds Rd., County 12-25: Drive north 1.8 miles. Turn left, at intersection of Leeds Rd., County 12-25, and County Rd. 49 and drive 0.1 miles. Cross over railroad tracks and drive 3.4 miles north to Park Rd., County Turn left onto Park Rd., County , and drive 3.6 miles to the end of the paved road. From Hwy. 9 and County 49, drive south 5.6 miles. Turn right at Park Rd., County , and drive 3.6 miles to the end of the paved road. 19 Dillon Little Pee Dee Campground Park # The black waters of the Little Pee Dee River provide a very tranquil setting. 21 Fair Play Lake Hartwell State Area Park # Just off of I-85, at the South Carolina-Georgia border, you ll find Lake Hartwell State Park. Thanks to 56,000-acre Lake Hartwell, fishing in this area is renowned by anglers across the state. The lake is inhabited by striped and hybrid bass, largemouth, crappie, bream and catfish. 23 Greenville Paris Mountain Campground Park # Only 5 miles from the heart of downtown Greenville, the acre Paris Mountain State Park is a green oasis offering mountainous trails and swimming in clear lakes. This heritage can still be seen in the preserved stone and timber outside of the renovated bathhouse, now known as the Park Center. Inside, the center features historical exhibits and a classroom to teach young and old about the park s ecology. From Greenville: Take I-385 to exit 40A (N. Pleasantburg Dr.) Follow signs for Paris Mountain State Park turning right on Piney Mountain Rd, then right on State Park Rd. Follow signs. From Asheville: Take Hwy 25 to Hwy 276. Left on N. Rate: $5 Greenwood, SC (803) Located just outside of Greenwood, this recreation area in the Sumter National Forest serves as a gateway to some wonderful trails for hiking, offroad bicycling, and horseback riding.
