4 Wat to expect Fees will vary at some campsites. For prices at individual campsites, go to Serviced campsites* $8* adult; $9 cild Serviced campsites ave a wide range of facilities and services: flus toilets, tap water, kitcen/cooking benc, ot sowers, rubbis collection and road access for all types of veicles. Laundry facilities, BBQs, fireplaces, cookers and picnic tables may be provided. Scenic campsites* $3* adult; $6.50 cild Tese campsites are in ig use locations and ave a more limited range of facilities and services tan Serviced campsites: toilets, water supply (tap, stream or lake) and veicle or boat access. Wood BBQs and fireplaces, cold sowers, picnic tables, a cooking selter and rubbis bins may be provided. Standard campsites $8* adult; $4 cild Tese campsites ave toilets, water supply (tap, stream, or lake) and veicle or boat access. Basic campsites no carge Tese ave very limited facilities so campers need to be fully selfsufficient. Basic toilets and water may be from a tank, stream or lake. * Extra carges apply for powered sites: $3 per adult; $.50 per cild. Age categories for fees: Adult: Cild: Infant: 8+ years 5 7 years 0 4 years, no carge. Booking and paying fees Bookings are required for all Serviced campsites and for some Scenic and Standard campsites in peak season (usually October 30 April). Most bookings can be made at or at a DOC Visitor Centre. Were bookings are not required, pay fees via te selfregistration system at te campsite, or at a Visitor Centre. Tese campsites operate on a first come, first served basis. Fees are generally carged per person per nigt, and reflect te level of facilities and services provided. DOC rangers patrol camping areas and will ceck tat fees ave been paid.
5 At te campsite Campsites and dogs Dogs are not permitted at Conservation Campsites unless te dogs permitted or dogs on a leas symbol is present. Wit most campsites located in or near protected areas it is important to keep your dog under control. Even te most obedient dog as te potential to kill wildlife. Dog owners wo take teir dogs into dog-proibited campsites or controlled areas witout a permit, or breac te conditions of teir permit, are liable to prosecution. Controlling your dog also respects oter people s rigts to use and enjoy te outdoors. Find places tat can take your dog at Take your rubbis wit you DOC operates a Pack in, Pack out policy at most campsites tere are no rubbis or recycling facilities. Campers sould plan to take teir rubbis away wit tem. Some campsites may still ave limited rubbis collection services. For more information, visit No unautorised drones An autorisation is required from DOC to use drones on public conservation land or near marine mammals for any reason including private use. To apply, visit Fire risk Open fires are no longer permitted at most campsites unless in a DOC-designated fireplace or firepit. Ceck te rules at your campsite. Protect our wildlife from disease Some of tese campsites are in areas were native species are vulnerable to disease. You can prevent disease from spreading by following some simple precautions, including cleaning gear before and after entering tese areas. Look for notices at te campsites and local DOC Visitor Centres for details. Didymo is an exotic alga tat invades waterways. Tis microscopic pest can be spread by a single drop of water. Even if you can t see it, you could be spreading it. A large number of Conservation Campsites are near rivers and lakes, so always remember to Ceck, Clean, Dry all footwear, bicycles, veicles, fising equipment and oter items before entering, and wen moving between, waterways. 6 Kauri dieback is a disease tat kills kauri trees. Tere is no cure and it can be spread troug te movement of soil. But kauri trees can be saved. Help stop te spread: Clean all soil off your footwear and oter gear, every time you enter or leave a kauri forest, and at every cleaning station. Use disinfectant only after you ave removed all te soil. Stay on te track and off kauri roots. A kauri s roots can grow outwards tree times as far as its brances. Spread te word witin your networks on ow to stop kauri dieback. Visit or call 0800 NZ KAURI ( ). Protect our wildlife and from invasive pests Some special campsites are located on islands free of most of our invasive pest animals and plants. We rely on you to elp keep tem tis way. Inspect and clean your tent and oter camping gear torougly before leaving ome and between locations. Remove any mud (ceck te pegs and peg bag), sand, plant material, insects or animals suc as mice or rats, Argentine ants and plague (rainbow) skinks and don t forget to ceck inside your tent. It s also important to ceck your cloting and footwear for weed seeds and soil before and after eac trip. If you re taking a boat or kayak, ceck tese too. DOC staff may make biosecurity cecks of your footwear and gear wen you arrive on an island to ensure your gear is pest free. Tuatara. 8 HAWKE S BAY Everetts 30 Camp in a big grassy area beside te Moaka River. Fis, swim, canoe or try wite water rafting. Directions: From SH5 turn into Waitara Rd,. km sout of te Moaka River bridge. Follow for 6 km ten turn into Aurora Rd and travel 5 km to sign. Access: 4 km of gravel road. Stream ford and steep road, suitable for 4WD veicles only. No campervans. Subject to slips ceck for alerts. LATITUDE: LONGITUDE: BASIC Waitara/Glenfalls 30 Fis, swim, canoe or raft in te river. Directions: From SH5 turn into Waitara Rd (sealed),. km sout of te Moaka River bridge. Follow for 8 km. Access: Gravel road at campsite. LATITUDE: LONGITUDE: BASIC 3 Mangatutu Hot Springs 45 Relax at te nearby termal springs or go tramping, fising, unting, swimming or rafting. Directions: From Napier, take Puketitiri Rd ten Pakatutu Rd for 9 km. Turn into Makau Rd and follow to road end. Access: Gravel road. Stream ford (caution required) on Makau Rd, 7.5 km from road end. No caravans or campervans. LATITUDE: LONGITUDE: BASIC 4 Waikare River Mout 0 Beside te Waikare River, a 0 minute walk to te beac for swimming, fising and boating. 9 HAWKE S BAY 5 Lake Tūtira 30 Camp by te lake and walk to Table Mountain Trig for views from te inland ranges to te coast. Directions: Off SH at Tutira, 50 min nort of Napier. Access: Sealed. Note: Te lake may be subject to toxic algal blooms. 6 Lawrence 5 Access day and overnigt walks from tis site; fis, unt, or canoe te Tutaekuri River. Directions: From te Taiape Road turn into Lawrence Rd near Kuripapango and travel 7 km to road end. Access: Gravel road, no campervans. Last 500 m only suitable for 4WD. Note: Logging trucks on road take great care. Day and multi-day walks accessible from ere. Directions: From SH sout of Dannevirke, turn into Laws Rd, rigt into Top Grass Rd, ten left into Tamaki West Rd and follow to end. 10 At te campsite Camping care code Be a careful camper and practise no trace camping. Coose your campsite carefully; set up your camp on firm, ig or sandy ground. Camp only in designated areas. Be tidy and always leave campsites clean. Take your rubbis wit you if bins are not provided. Use a cooker, fireplace or BBQ. Ligt fires only were allowed, collect dead wood and keep te fire small. Soak te fire wit water before you go. Detergents, soap and tootpaste can arm aquatic and marine life. Use biodegradable products and was in a container well away from water sources. Always use toilets provided. Campgrounds are social places but everyone needs some rest and relaxation. Please respect te rigts of oters for quiet enjoyment of te outdoors. Limit generator use (were permitted) between 9 pm and 8 am. Pay your fees to elp keep campsites available in te future. Always torougly clean your equipment before and after trips to minimise te spread of weeds and diseases. Protect native plants and animals. Beware of tieves Remember to lock your veicle and take your valuables wit you.
