1 March Dear MSC members: Volume 101 March 2012 President s Message First thing on the agenda is to remind everyone of our upcoming general meeting. Last meeting we did not have enough members for a quorum, so the board voted to postpone the "Special Meeting" until the March 13th meeting. Inside the news letter on page 2 is an absentee ballot. If you have not yet voted and are not going to attend the next meeting, please complete the ballot and either mail or have it delivered to the next meeting, (do not back to me or other board members), and be sure to either write your name on the envelope or the ballot. The special meeting, as a reminder, is to vote on the corrections and additions to the "Articles / BY-Laws of our club. Mostly, the changes reflect incorrect word uses and grammar; there are a few changes, such as adding voting as a form of voting. I am attaching a copy of the corrected articles for your review. As we head into March, we will be looking for members to run for positions on the board. We will have six positions to vote for at the last meeting in April: President, 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President, Treasure, Secretary, and one of the Trustee spots. I will not be running for President and Victor, our 2nd VP, is not seeking re-election. Please contact me if you are interested in running for any of the six positions and for what position you want to run for. I would like to remind everyone that even though the snow fall has not been the greatest this year, there is still enough for some great skiing. With that said, Kathy Gibson has discount lift tickets for most of the resorts available. Contact her if you plan on doing any skiing and need tickets. Myrtle Wagoner is doing good. She is rehabbing at English Oaks in Modesto, and loves company. Feel free to visit her. The broken hip is now on the mend. In closing, I want to thank everyone again for their support and calls. I am glad to say that the shoulder is healing faster than the Doctor had anticipated. I might even get to ride my bicycles by the end of summer. Don t forget your Aspen deposits, Last I heard, Chuck already has 22 deposits. Debra Clover President [1]

4 MSC LODGE NEWS GREETINGS! The lodge is finally being used. We are expecting snow this week as well. Hope winter is finally showing up. The race team was at Sugarbowl this past weekend and snow is much needed. The Lodge is looking great. It was brought to my attention that the stove tops look pretty bad and needed cleaning before they could use them. Be sure to wipe up after using the stove tops. We don t have a maid service for cleaning; all members and guests are responsible for this. The lock at the basement door has been changed and your key will work. Several members have called to let me know that their key would not open the door and the new lock is in place. Please, when mailing your checks for Lodge stays, I will receive the checks quicker if you use my HOME Address!! Do not send your payments to the PO BOX!!! This only delay s your payment and may affect your upcoming stay at the Lodge. Please mail your Lodge Payments my home address: 1340 North Pointe Place, Modesto, CA and remember, you must pay in advance at the time of booking your trips to the Lodge. Make check payable to MSC. Michelle Nightengale Lodge Chairperson [4]

9 Jerry Shelton Sr Memorial Ride Saturday, June 30, :30 am 8:30 pm Modesto Ski Lodge, Donner Trail Rd., Truckee, CA Join us as we ride in honor of Jerry Shelton Sr. The ride is to honor Jerry and his zest for life and raise awareness about the silent dangers of Heart Disease. It is also to raise funds for 1) a defibrillator for the lodge Jerry loved in Truckee and 2) The American Heart Association. (A defibrillator would have been the only chance Jerry had to survive his Sudden Cardiac Arrest.) This is a fun ride, not a race. There will be two routes to choose from, an easy route around Donner Lake (approximately 12 miles round trip) or the more challenging route, re-tracing the route Jerry and Pam took on their Honeymoon over Donner Pass (round trip approximately 35 miles). Your $30 participation fee includes a commemorative LIVE with HEART silicon bracelet, breakfast and dinner the day of the ride. If you re unable to participate, we welcome your donation. Send checks payable to Modesto Ski Club to the address below.
