Yes, we Volunteered him for President since he was new to our club 2 yers ago. But, he s garnered kudo s from members for his direct response to our ideas/concepts. To find someone of this caliber is difficult to replace. But Eric has tapped VP Alan Miller to be his replacement until we vote again. We ll follow Eric s travails thoughout the wilds of Iowa and visit him to see how his Antique Britiish cars cars will evolve. Ladies and Gentlemen of LABCC: It is my honor to announce I have accepted a new position, furthering my career. Unfortunately, the position will require me to relocate, so Vice President Alan Miller will take over presidential duties until elections are held. The torch will be passed on during August 6 th monthly meeting. Please come out and to give your support. I ve learned much from all LABCC members. You cemented purchasing a British car was not the worst decision I ve made. Maybe close, but not. LOL J If it wasn t for LABCC members, my MG would likely sit or be passed to another as many older cars do. If you find yours sitting, talk with your fellow members. They would love to help you get it out and reliable. If you can, please attend July 28 Lunch Rallye and my honor for you to continue the journey to Tecumseh for a few further refreshments. My Hillman Husky Mark I will be pulled out for display (although it is in need of serious work, so don t expect to be wowed). I will return to MidAmerican Energy Company, working in Des Moines, Iowa, starting August 12. I ll be learning more about combined cycle and combustion turbine power plants. New environmental regulation is working to further reduce coal fired power plants, therefore this opportunity further diversifies my skills necessary for a long, successful career. I m a true believer things happen for a reason. Coming to Kansas, being away from my family, working for Westar Energy, having the honor to be LABCC President allowed me to grow personally and professionally and believe I ll leave a much better person. Many of you had a hand in that. Thank you. You re true friends and great role models. Des Moines isn t that far away, so I m planning to maintain my LABCC membership, contribute to the monthly newsletter and attend club events as occasion allows. Highest regards, Eric! Page 4

Hi gang. This is a story passed on to me from a friend in the Local British Car Club here in Traverse City, MI. Enjoy! Vic Subject: Fw: Auto-related humor Outside England s Bristol Zoo there is a parking lot for 150 cars and 8 buses. For 25 years, its parking fees were managed by a very pleasant attendant...the fees for cars ($1.40),for buses (about $7). Then, one day, after 25 solid years of never missing a day of work,he just didn't show up; so the zoo management called the city council and asked it to send them another parking agent. The council did some research and replied that the parking lot was the zoo's own responsibility. The zoo advised the council that the attendant was a city employee. The city council responded that the lot attendant had never been on the city payroll. Meanwhile, sitting in his villa somewhere on the coast of Spain, or France, or Italy, is a man who'd apparently had a ticket booth installed completely on his own and then had simply begun to show up every day, commencing to collect and keep the parking fees, estimated at about $560 per day -- for 25 years. Assuming 7 days a week, this amounts to just over $7 million dollars...and no one even knows his name.! Page 5

6 Hidden Shop Discovery! James Mckenzie James sent me info on this non-descript Brit only shop in Roscoe, Ill., just north of Rockford. He and Susan spied it while returining to Lawrence last week. Seems 3 guys own it and only work on vintage British cars, and are members of the Rockford Boots & Bonnet Club. COOL! Anyone with more info please let me know. - Bill! Page 6

7 Remote Report: James McKenzie Just got back from vacation today. This Land Rover belongs to a friend in Northern Vermont where we stayed for a couple of days. Its a 63 and in good running shape. He also has another with a longer wheelbase that he is restoring. We saw several nice cars out on the roads which is always encouraging. The surprise was an old Bentley up in Stowe Vermont. Pic of it on Susans camera, will get it to you. We saw a nice early MGB, TR6, Spitfire, and several others on the roads. Stopped in a British car work shop in Roscoe just North of Rockford. There were two MGTF's, one with the crankshaft and rod sticking out the engine block. There were several big Healeys, one which was getting a ground up restoration. Also several MGA's, MGB's and a nice MGB GT for sale. It has a 5 speed and supercharger, nice car. There was a MGA engine on an engine stand getting ready to go back in the car after it was rebuilt. Nice shop and a nice bunch of guys. They belong to the Rockford all British club. James! Page 7

9 James McKenzie on high wheel bicycle July 19, 2013 James McKenzie, a retired Lawrence fireman, collects and restores high wheel bicycles, which were popular in America and England in the 1800s. They will be on display Saturday, July 20, 2013, at the Community Bike Ride hosted by the Lawrence Central Rotary Club. The event begins at 8 a.m. at the Rotary Arboretum at Clinton Lake, 5100 W. 27th St. There will be free t-shirts, helmets, snacks and three routes to choose from: a one-mile, three-mile or 10-mile. this gallery to a friend! 10 Club Minutes by Susan McKenzie; LAWRENCE ALL BRITISH CAR CLUB Meeting of July 2, 2013 held at Bambino s Italian Restaurant This meeting was very well attended, with 23 in attendance. Since he s a new retiree, Bill Fisher was present for the first time in a while. Brian suggested that the club pay for his meal at this meeting, in honor of his retirement and of the great job he continues to do with the Newsletter. The club agreed. As there were several new members and/or visitors present, Eric Frana introduced himself as President, Alan Miller, Vice President; Chuck Fischer, Treasurer; Susan McKenzie, Secretary; and Dave and Debbie Holzmeister, Events Coordinators. Charles and Mary were introduced, having recently moved from New York City. They own a 1960 Bugeye. Charles has been working at KU this past year while Mary finished up her teaching career with the New York school system. Seth and his guest Vishnieve were also introduced. Seth happened upon the car show at Brits, while driving his 1974 MGB on Massachusetts Street. They are both graduate students at KU. Seth found his MGB in Iowa and in March took the bus to Iowa and drove the MGB home. Eric asked the club officers to meet with him after the meeting. The club s recent nursing home gathering was well attended with eight of our cars shown. The residents and staff enjoyed having us and the lunch served was a nice touch for those who made the effort to be there. The Rallye is scheduled for October 13 th. No progress has been made to date, except that we do have the same shelter that we used last year in Centennial Park reserved. Alan indicated that he would do his best at taking on the Rallye Master position if no one else stepped forward. Alan distributed and read a survey asking the membership for opinions and ideas about the club, meetings and events and asked that they be filled out and returned. Dave Tadlock is the club s new Webmaster. Thank you Dave for the wonderful job you ve already done with the clubs website. It looks great! Bambino s really wants the club to have a car show in their parking lot in July. With the current road construction and dust associated with it, not to mention that people are avoiding that intersection, the members felt it best to wait for a show at that location when the construction is completed. Dave Smith reflected that he feels that comradery among the members of this club is what had held it together over the many years. On that note, Maggie proposed a club ride around Lake Perry. After the ride this spring when the club rode up to Duke s on Lake Perry for a meal together, she got the idea to drive all around the lake. She found it to be quite fun, taking 1 ½ hours without a meal. She indicated that there is another restaurant that does BBQ as well as Duke s. It was agreed that such a ride would take place on July 28 th, meeting around 11:00 am at the intersection of HWY 40 and the road to Lecompton. Eric added that he d like to have everyone back at his house after the ride. He said he would send out an with details and directions.! Page 10
