New Hunt...a small group of members is starting the groundwork on a new major hunt for 2015, and member input would be appreciated. Detecting Alerts... It is recommended to use a ground cloth or similar to keep the dirt from discoloring the grass & leaving a mess. Please be aware of the warming weather & its hastened effect on drying out plugs (even a few days of hot weather). A suggestion would be to avoid detecting on lawns & meadows (public & private) until the rainy season returns in early winter. Typically a dried plug will be blown out when mowed or critters may pull a plug looking for worms. Beach detecting or in wooded areas might be a good alternative. Also with the warm weather more people are observing our hobby & perhaps asking more questions. Courtesy & rapport can present our hobby in a more positive light & discussion about the removal of junk & hazardous material will probably go a lot further than talking about that last silver coin. Detecting on Public Land...When in doubt check with city, county, state or other intergovernmental websites for current regulations as there could be serious consequences both for you & the hobby in general. WA State Parks Metal Detecting Pamphlet answers many questions on which state parks are open & where to hunt. Their website has maps & June s AOK Award was won by Sue Kaas for returning a driver s license found at Gas Works Park.
3 registration forms for many of the open parks. The City of Burien requires metal detecting permits. (at no cost from the city parks dept.) New Newsletter Editor Needed... Our current editor, Ron Aldridge, is ready to take a break after doing the newsletter nearly 5 years. He can help with the templates, supply FOM photos & supply What s in a Date articles as needed to help start the process for the new person. Activity Fees for Non-members...continuing in 2014 $15.00 for a club activity & $12.00 for hunt only. Club Growth...we are always looking for new people to get involved. Ideas for new activities, ways to help our community & promote our hobby are always welcomed. Bring in Food Bank Donations...food is needed all year long at local food banks. It is suggested that each member bring at least one can of food to the meeting. Please ensure the items donated are not past the pull date and nothing opened. Special Thanks to the businesses...who provide support & donations for our hobby & events: Jeffery Sarvis, Treasure Dude Detectors, ; Northgate Coins, Bryan Geraghty, Find of the Month...other July entries: 4 pts 1897 Indian Head Penny Ron Aldridge 3 pts 1868 Shield Nickel Rich McCleary 2 pts 1905 Indian Head Penny Rick Razor 1 pt 1942-D Mercury Dime Mark Jenkins 1 pt 1918-S Wheat Penny Joe Sacco 4 pts 14k Gold Necklace w/cross Ken Cochran 3 pts Platinum & 14k Class Ring Rick Razor 2 pts.925 Silver Ring w/14k gold plating Ron Aldridge 1 pt Silver Navajo Ring Joe Sacco 1 pt 2006 Kentwood Class Ring Mark Jenkins 1 pt.925 Silver Ring Jack Davis 1 pt Ski Pin Mark Kulseth 1 pt Elephant Pin Rich McCleary 1 pt.925 Silver Spinner Ring Greg Cheney 4 pts 1931 British Shilling Joe Sacco 3 pts Seattle Railway School Token Mark Jenkins 3 pts 1951 French 50 Francs Rick Razor 2 pts Chinese 5 Cache Coin Ron Aldridge 1 pt 1942 Canadian Penny Rich McCleary 4 pts 1904 Industrial Expo Token Ron Aldridge 3 pts Plated Spoon Rick Razor 2 pts U.S. Army Button Rich McCleary 1 pt Ski Pin Mark Jenkins 1 pt 1920 Chevrolet Hub Cap Joe Sacco 1 pt $20.00 Bill Mark Kulseth CTC August 29 - Sept. 1 Summer Weekend Camp Out Info: Come join us for a weekend of camping and fun at Indian Flat Campground from Friday, Aug. 29 through Monday, Sept.1. 4 Jim Richards Our club has again been saddened by the passing of one of our long time members, Jim Richards. On July 13th he left to meet his maker. Jim was a valued member since the1970 s & was instrumental in the growth of our club. He participated in many of our activities, was a past president, & will surely be missed by the membership as well as his many friends. He & his wife, Lois, have been married 63 years. There was a serious side to Jim, but also a fun and loving side as well. He had a great sense of humor & was well liked by all who knew him. Jim was very outgoing & made friends wherever he went.
