From the looks of the pictures there were quite a few interesting items found. `With the temperature running in the mid 40 s the hunters and 60 + members were thankful of the club members that brought all of the different spiced chili and fixings to warm them up and quench their appetite. After the chili feast, everyone enjoyed a night of bingo with many club donated prizes along with the $300 in cash donated by the club. A big thank you goes to Lee Wierzchowski, Len Eames, & Bob Avey and Tommy Taber for organizing the bingo for this event and also Bob Cook and Cody Reese for organizing the entire event.

NEWSLETTER ARTICLE CONTEST FOR 2012 For an excellent review of the Fisher 1266X either click on to open or copy and paste the link below into your browser s address line and hit enter. During the year 2012 I am going to have a contest for those that send me the most articles that can be used in the monthly newsletter. The articles need to be on some aspect of metal detecting or treasure hunting such as tips on how to do something, tips on technique, new equipment you have tried, personal experience, finds that you think are pretty cool, comments about something relating to the subject. I will keep tabs on who sent what and at the end of the year a prize will be given to the top three donors that participated. The prizes will be: First Place a one ounce Silver Eagle. Second Place a silver half. Third Place a silver quarter.

Please join us for up to the minute info about club happenings and a good way to share your metal detecting stories with fellow detectorists. 7 7 I.T.T.H.C. Treasure News Page 7 Park Edges Submitted By Lee Wierzchowski I've been told about this metal detecting tip before. However, I can't stress enough how important this tip is. If you concentrate on metal detecting the center of the parks you hunt, you will continue to dig clad coins and pull-tabs. The older coins are in the outer edges of the parks. And the modern detectorist does not often hunt those outer edges. Everyone heads to the center of parks to detect. However, think about the park hundreds of years ago. People also frequented the outer edges of most of the parks in the days of old. However, because the lawns are mowed in only the modern sections, the old areas of these parks are overlooked, Most times people picnicked in the areas that are no longer being used today. The areas used years ago are most likely scrub brush today. The outer edges of the modern parks are where the lost coins and jewelry are lying. You can find old coins and jewelry in brushy areas just 10 feet from where the lawns in parks have been mowed. You might have to walk through some thick scrub brush. However it might turn out to be well worth the effort. THE AXE Submitted by Vicki Lang Why is an old rusty AX and An ugly half dollar In show and Tell? When Ruby saw this rusty old axe head I found in her front yard, big tears came to her eyes. She picked it up like a long lost child. "Oh, if you only knew how much these cost back then. $3.00 and no one had $3.00 to buy another ax. If a person lost their ax they were Kapoot, no money, and no ax to make any. It took every penny you made for over a week of hard work to buy another ax. We would go miles away and walk way back a half a mile or more into the deep woods and chop down trees. Then we'd cut them into railroad ties and drag them back up through the weeds and trees to the road. They had to be perfect or we didn't get paid for them. We'd get up, cook breakfast, and leave way before sunrise. I'd pack our dinner. A biscuit for me and Floyd. A piece of salt pork or bacon in it if we had it, if not, I'd put some bacon grease on the biscuit and wrap them up in a nice clean little cloth. We'd go out and get to the woods about day break. I'd spread out a little blanket for the baby, then we'd start to work and work till dark. Then the men would come and look at the ties. On a good day we might make 50 cents. We'd get home way after dark and I'd start up the fire in the fireplace and get our supper. Why, it would take a week of working to buy a new ax, but we didn't have it so we would have to find an old one to sharpen the best we could. We just did with what we had. Nobody had anything back then. But we had The Lord and He saw us through." This is a tribute to Floyd and Ruby. They made it!
