3 ONCE AGAIN, IT S SHOW TIME Hi Everyone, Well, boys and girls, this is the end. After this year, we are done. Ford Lincoln of Huntington has notified us that they are not funding the show this year. Sayonara, shalom, call it what you want. Stick a fork in us, and after this show we are finished. It has been a great run! Twelve shows - one better than the last one. We gave big bucks to our charity: Building Homes for Heroes and we became a stable on the island. However, we have decided to have the show anyway. To cut expenses, we have reduced the amount of trophies we will order, along with less T -Shirts. We have cut and combined some of the Mustang classes, and lastly, it will be peer judging again. We are going out with a smile, and with the satisfaction that we created something nice. Come and join Dennis, Ken, Bob, and myself for the last hurrah. A Special Guest: In the extra pages of this newsletter you will see a bio of a former US Army Specialist - his name is Hugo Gonzalez. Hugo was severely injured in Iraq in Thanks to the folks at Building Homes for Heroes, Hugo may come to our show. New Members: Welcome aboard: Frank Skrivanek from St. James with his 34 Ford coupe - also, Bob Weiner from Greenlawn with his 33 Ford 3-window coupe. Bob also has a 2014 Shelby Mustang. Both guys gave extra money to our charity, and do you think the face of this club is changing? Da Advance Auto: I have been in touch with Jim Malloy District Manager from Advance Auto, and other than the two buckets he gives us to raffle off, we also may get stuff for our goody bags. If everything goes well, we will be putting their logo on the back of the show T-Shirts. Big Bang for Your Bucks: This is the best show package on the Island. For your money, you get a theme T-Shirt, and this year, something in your goody bag from Advanced Auto. So, the pre-registering guarantees you the aforementioned and your T-Shirt size. Now is the time to support your club. Page 9 of this issue, has the flyer for the show. That s your ticket to ride. Fill it out and mail it with your check to Mr. Benfante. So get your checkbook out - (I m watching) and send Dennis your money. Remember & Directions: The show is NOT at the dealerships service center: It is at the Key-Food Shopping Center in Kings Park - the same place it was last year. The address is 58 Indian Head Road in Kings Park. From the Sagtikos Parkway exit at Indian Head Road and head north for a couple of miles. The shopping center is on the left. Motor Mouth Radio/Sunday, July High Noon: Well, it looks like this will be our last year on the air. another great run with the guys from Motor Mouth Radio. Tune into station 90.3 FM or catch us live on line at Watch Dennis and me talk about just anything that comes up. You know the drill by now. We promote our show and have a freaking good time. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED As always we need help! We need people to help with the parking, and just keeping law and order. It s an early day. We meet about 6:00 AM in the morning at the shopping center and stay to clean up when it s over. So, if you want to be part of the working crew and suck up to the President and the Show Committee, please contact me. Continued on Page 10 3

10 Continued From Page Ford Nationals: Well, it was almost two years since I was back at Carlisle for Ford Nationals. I talked my Daughter-in-Law into releasing my son, Marc AKA, the former Mr. Mustang, to come with me. We left on Friday, June 9 th and arrived in Pa about 5-ish. Major traffic on the Cross Bronx, but what else is new. We stopped for breakfast/lunch at the Clinton Diner in Clinton, one of my favorite spots on Route 78 when I m in that part of the world. On Saturday, the 9 th, we got an early start and arrived on the show field about 8. For most of the day, we hung out at the Lehigh Valley tent which was right next door to the ITC tent. My game plan early in the week was to go into the ITC tent and cause a little havoc. Well, I decided not to enter the dragon s nest, and maybe make a fool of myself - plus my energy level was at a low level because of my age as I did all of the driving to get to Pa. I think there were more Thunderbirds on Saturday than there were two years ago for the 60 th Anniversary. Also there was a lime green 57 with a body kit that was really interesting. I took some pics and they will be in the extra pages of this newsletter. I just found out that Big Bird came in second in the show field, and I did not even put out my sign! It was a great day because we ran into friends of ours who we have not seen in years. - all Mustanger s and great people. Walked around for hours, and left for home about 4- ish and arrived at HQ about 9. You guessed - we stopped at the Clinton Diner for dinner. A great two days, and I got to spend some quality time with my son. Thursday, June 22 Key Food Shopping Center in Kings Park: I love Thursdays in King s Park! Since the cruise night started about seven years ago, I have been a consistent staple every week. Great people and I have made many friends throughout the years. Come and join me! There is pizza, Chinese food, and the Professor s Diner. Feel like tacos and such? it s just across the street. I get there very early but you do not have to get there as early as I do. It s just me being me. In case you did not know, this is where our show is this year. So, see you on the 22 nd. No set time because of the venue, so arrive when you can. Saturday, June 10 th North Jersey Thunderbird Show: I have been in this car hobby since the early 90 s..have been in a movie for a few seconds, drove cross country to Michigan, Ohio, Delaware, & Pa for show events, but what happened in Pompton Plains on Saturday June, was top-shelf! Upon my arrival on Saturday, they placed me in an area away from the rest of the show cars. This was to highlight my car for the day. It was called: President s Choice Award area. No judging for me, just enjoying the day, and talking to people about Big Bird. I was interviewed and put on Facebook live streaming. The guy who interviewed me kept calling me Jerry, and as I got home I found messages from my buddies calling me Jerry. Just a footnote to Facebook: I had texted Frani that I would be live on Facebook, and to go and take a look. Her answer was: I see you live every day - (I love that woman). My partner for the day was our Editor in Chief, Art Fleming. Art has played Tonto for the last couple of years. So, moving forward, they put Big Bird on the show s dash plaque. That was one of the perks being chosen for the President s Choice Award. Not only was there a dash plaque, but a cake was made with the dash plaque superimposed on the cake. Not done yet - I was presented with an award showing the dash plaque, and President s Choice on it! Thank you Jerry C,!! and all the members of the North Jersey Thunderbird club for making a day to remember!!! for me!!! Sinatra had My Way for me, I had My Day! Thank You!!! Friday, July 14, 2017/ Collector Car Appreciation Day: Take it out, and leave it out for the day, and hope nobody gets hurt. THERE IS NO CLUB MEETING IN JULY BECAUSE OF OUR SHOW and, You re Welcome! 10

18 GROUP LIFT PURCHASE Is anyone interested in buying a 4-post lift for their garage? I am refurbishing my garage, and have done some research on lifts. I have settled on the Backyard Buddy 7,000lb. Standard Lift. BYB can store 2 cars in the space of one, requiring just 9' wide, 16' long, 9' ceiling height, and a 120V outlet to store one car above another car, where the lower car is 60" at its highest point or less (e.g. my 1970 Boss 302 on top of my 2013 Boss 302, for example). The lift is made in Warren, OH, has the best construction & lift locking system in my opinion, offers jacks, drip pans, and wheels for movement, and offers the best warranty I can find. Go to their website & see for yourself It is also probably the most expensive 4-post lift at $4,595. But I want one! I would like to assemble a group of 10 or more car guys living here on Long Island who would like to buy this lift this summer. Then I intend to take the order to the All Ford Nationals (June 2-4), where Backyard Buddy will have a booth. My theory is in addition to the $ show special, I can negotiate a volume price delivered to one "area". By negotiating a group purchase discount added to the reduced freight and the show special, I am going to try to knock $ 500-1,000 off the standard retail price of the lift. Please realize (1) You will still have to pay someone to install the lift at your home ($500-1,000), (2) You will have to modify your garage door tracks to clear the lift (~$200), (3) There is no guarantee of the final price; I can only try to get the $1,000 discount I seek. But 10 units should get us some discount; 20+ units will entice the manufacture to give a substantial discount. As an additional incentive, I would invite the Backyard Buddy Marketing team to come to Long Island and talk to / interview those who participated for their advertising testimonials. Please contact me by phone or (below) with any questions, giving me your name, your address, phone, and address as confirmation you are willing to spend the necessary funds in June-July. Thank you!
