4 50 Years of history : 1. How Las Dunas came to be

5 How Las Dunas came to be Las Dunas started in 1968 in the municipality of Sant Pere Pescador. These were the early years of tourism on the Costa Brava. A clear vision of the future led the Suñé family to turn 6 hectares of terrain, dedicated traditionally to agriculture, into a holiday park. This terrain is located on a golden sandy beach, limited by natural dunes that inspired the name of the campsite: Camping Las Dunas is born In these early days the foundation was laid. The old mansion or masia El Mas de la Devesa, held the reception, a bar and a restaurant. The first sanitary building was built and the terrain of the estate was dedicated to camping pitches. From 1975 the growing demand in the market led to the first expansions. A reception building was built at the entrance of the campsite, as well as a supermarket, a new bar and a new sanitary building. The terrain got extended from 6 to 12 hectares and pitches to 60 square metres.

7 The Eighties In the Eighties, meeting the requirements of the market, Las Dunas starts investing in leisure facilities. A large pool is built, in concordance with the expanded campsite, as well as two tennis courts, and a crazy golf court. This decade also sees pub La Cova and the mythical discotheque Fata Morgana come to be. In the late eighties the terrain is expanded to 35 hectares and a third sanitary building is built.

9 The Nineties In the nineties the fourth and fifth sanitary building were built and the existing installations renovated. In this decade a bakery, a souvenir shop, a clothing boutique and the laundry were built. The discotheque Fata is modernised. Moreover, the first mobile homes were placed, a novelty at the time. The pitches are enlarged to 100 m 2 to meet our client s requirements.

11 Recent History From the year 2000, as in previous episodes, the installations of the campsite were improved and renovated. By now there were 75 bungalows and 35 mobile homes. The restaurant and the pool were renovated and the stage by the bar was built. In 2006 Las Dunas mascot Laladu, inspired by the endemic turtles of the Empordà, was born as a result of the increased focus on family holidays. In 2013 a new crazy golf course was built with artificial grass, resembling a genuine golf course. The following year the new bar was built with a unique sun roof on the terrace, resting on only one central column. In 2015 the pool area was expanded to 5000 m² and a new pool with five water slides and wellness elements was built. Also, by 2017 bungalow capacity was increased to 150 with new bungalows with capacity for up to 6 persons.

13 Awards During all these years Las Dunas has always tried to stay ahead of its game and meet the latest trends in the market. Investments were made in service and facilities to meet both our guests and growing environmental requirements. We have managed to become a benchmark in both the national and international market. In 1973, just five years after its opening Las Dunas receives its first official recognition from the Deutschen Camping Clubs e.v. The members of this German camping club chose our campsite as one the best in Europe at the time. In the following years awards and recognitions were repeatedly issued by the main European organisations in the market: ADAC, ANWB, DCC, ACSI, CARAVAN CLUB, DCU, ALAN ROGERS, FECC and many more. The many returning campers who visit us year after year as well as the received awards endorse our team s efforts to achieve excellence and have become part of Las Dunas long history.
