The tour started in Sparks, then off to Grass Valley, Auburn, Placerville, Jackson and Oakhurst. Yosemite is a bonus.

3 NORTHERN WHEELS NCRG NEWSLETTER PAGE 3 NCRG President s Message - September 2017 Judy & I are working as Registrars for the 2018 MAFCA National Convention and the other day a rare thunder storm rolled over the Sebastopol hills knocking out the power to compute. That relegated me to hand writing this account of the registration process for the convention. Hand writing may well be a lost art in a decade or two as the thumbs are taking over where the pen left off. Thumb writing and code is the new norm and conversation is becoming passé. In the 17 th year after Y2K the registration forms for the convention have evolved. Now everyone with a computer can, using 1 or 2 fingers, click boxes and type a filled out form online. The computer will enter correct fees and information just by clicking a box or entering a quantity. Amazing! With over 100 registrations recorded only 2 don t have an address and yet a third have resisted using technology that s as easy as reading and following instructions. Click on the Registration box on page 2 and $80 is entered. No need to wonder if you should pay $160 because there are 2 of you. If you fill out the Hubley Derby sheet on page 11, the quantity and price will automatically enter on page 3. The same goes for merchandise. Look at the simple steps and do them in order. Download Adobe Acrobat Reader. Open the latest registration form in Adobe Acrobat and save to your downloads file. Open the saved copy and type it out. Then save the completed form to your computer for your records. Click on the envelope icon on the task bar and to 23018mafcaconvention@gmail.com Print a copy and all adults sign page 1; all attending sign page 5; add an Emergency Contact Person and phone number. Mail the forms and a check to Registrar, 9618 Cherry Ridge Rd. Sebastopol, CA One third of the registrations received have been hand written and contain 100% of the errors. If you follow the instructions it will work. If you don t do the first line first, it won t. Make plans to attend the convention and register soon if there s a bus tour you want to go on. Both Fallon Naval Air Station tours are full and there is a Standby List in case we can add another tour of the Station. That will fill up fast too. The Tahoe cruises have large but limited capacity and will sell out before registration ends. We re already adding buses. We have a list of people started that are willing to help with Registration during the first few days of the convention. If you can serve for a couple of hours in a sit down job, contact me. The Sonoma A s are hosting the Welcome Party and we re looking for a few items from your neck of the woods to give out when we spin the Wheel of Fortune. Corrections or additions-none. Motion to accept as written-dave Vestal, 2 nd Judy Lewis. Motion carries. Treasurer s 2016 Financial Report Al Stoll. The 2017 budget and financial statements were approved at the January meeting. All 2017 dues have been paid. Balances- Checking account: $ CD: $14, MAFCA has mailed a check for $4000 to NCRG for the 2018 National Convention. Website - Steve Mick, Web Master- absent. No report Youth We need someone to take Jackie Brooks place Suggested that it be advertised in the NCRG newsletter with job description or send to NCRG chapters. Suggestions to attract a youth interested in the NCRG Youth Award - post in the NCRG newsletter, send out to NCRG chapter reps, ask a past recipient of the NCRG youth award to write of his positive experience and benefit (Barrett s suggestion regarding their son), article in MAFCA youth newsletter, consider social media communication. Comments that today s youth are in their 40 s and that no NCRG chapter has come forward to host youth activities at the 2018 Convention. Old Business NCRG Chapter Registrations Patti Stetson Suggested that chapters get a best estimate of membership after their officers are elected in December or January and then send in NCRG dues and the annual renewal form as soon as they are determined. Correspondence from NCRG is through and all chapters have noted at least one address from their president, rep and/or chapter. No additional dues are expected to NCRG if members are added over the year and no audit has ever been done by the Treasurer. The annual renewal form is posted on the NCRG website and in the winter issue of the newsletter. NCRG Tokay A s Hub Tour Lodi Gary Floyd absent Paul Shinn reported there were 103 people, 56 Model A s and registrations and so far, so good! Steve and several other attendees reported many positive responses to the venues and tours. Capitol A s had a great turn out at Preston Castle. Only negative comment was the $120 registration fee since some could not attend the welcome party on Tuesday (and all other events were paid only if attended).

5 NORTHERN WHEELS NCRG NEWSLETTER PAGE 5 Report - Spring Opener Feather River A s, Quincy Dave Vestal reported the weekend was well attended with 200 registrations. Relaxed, no judging events; just visiting and touring and eating. Grand tour was to Truckee with some rain and snow showers. The local fire dept. hosted a pancake breakfast. Next year s event may again be held in Quincy. New Business Proposal by Sonoma A s to host the 2019 NCRG Roundup in Santa Rosa Steve reported Sonoma A s agreed to host it at the Flamingo Conference Resort & Spa in Santa Rosa. Hotel has enough rooms to accommodate everyone, arranged in a spoke configuration with many common areas to sit and visit, heated pool, rate of $149 per day, can accommodate our A s gymkhana. The resort fees on weekends are much higher so planning to hold the Roundup on weekdays. The date to be determined but not on Memorial Day weekend (possibly May or 27-29). More information will be on the NCRG website. Trudy made a motion to accept Sonoma A s bid to host the 2019 Roundup. 2 nd Jim Costello. Motion carries. Roundup in 2020 or 2021? Will discuss at Turlock California Auto Museum asking for donations to replace the roof Al Stoll reported the museum is seeking donations for a total of $750,000. Several local NCRG chapters support the museum with their events, programs and Model A displays including Capitol and Hangtown. It is a nonprofit organization. Motion to donate $500 for the benefit of the roof replacement by Trudy. 2 nd Rich Zell. Motion carries. Steve will write a letter on behalf of NCRG. NCRG Logo Contest? A copy of the present logo and proposed one was handed out. (See below) Comments included adding a picture of a Model A, eliminating the county lines, adding MAFCA chapter, etc. The contest to create a new logo is open to any chapter member. Those interested in submitting their logo design is asked to or send it to Steve Lewis. At the Turlock meeting the submitted samples will be reviewed and vote taken to approve or keep the same logo. A winner s prize will be discussed. Ongoing Business Super Committee Trudy Vestal update. MAFCA approved the 2018 Convention budget and will be sending the second installment of the $8000 loan provided for initial financing. A comment was made about the overall cost of fine point judging but did not affect the approval process. The next super committee meeting will be in Sonora on Wednesday, June 7 at 11 AM. Goal is to finish the registration form. Chapter committee reps can send in their written report rather than attend if they choose. This will be a working meeting so bring your lunch or stop before the meeting in Sonora to pick something up. Trudy assured the meeting will be shorter that in San Jose. Other business none The next meeting will be at Turlock in January Thanks to the Tokay A s, Delta A s, Capitol A s and Modesto Area A s for hosting the NCRG Hub Tour. The man was reportedly having the affair for several years before his mistress informed him that she was pregnant with his child, Little Things reported. Afraid of ruining his marriage, the man asked her if she would go back home to Italy and have the child in exchange for money. He vowed he would send financial support until the child was eighteen year old. The two devised a plan to keep the baby discreet by using a postcard sent from Italy with the word spaghetti on the back after the birth. At that point he would arrange for child support to begin. About nine months after the mistress returned to Italy, the postcard showed up in the mailbox and the man s wife discovered it. Honey, you received a very strange postcard today she said. Just give it to me and I ll explain it to you later he replied. The wife gave him the postcard then watched the horror on his face as he read it, turned white and fainted. Spaghetti, spaghetti, spaghetti, spaghetti, spaghetti the card read. Three with meatballs, two without. Send more sauce. Try to grow chickens A New York City yuppie moved to the country and bought a piece of land. He went to the local feed and livestock store and talked to the proprietor about how he was going to take up chicken farming. He then asked to buy 100 chicks. "That's a lot of chicks," commented the proprietor. "I mean business," the city slicker replied. A week later the yuppie was back again. "I need another 100 chicks," he said. "Boy, you are serious about this chicken farming," the man told him. "Yeah," the yuppie replied. "If I can iron out a few problems." "Problems?" asked the proprietor. "Yeah," replied the yuppie, "I think I planted that last batch too close together."
