52 50 ACWORTH SCHOOL REPORT SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT To the Ac worth School Board: I herewith submit my eighth annual report as your superintendent of schools. There is little to report this year except general good progress. There has been no change in teachers or in the general transportation work. The expenses of maintaining the schools next year will be lower as we are moving back toward normal in the number of high school pupils and in the adjustment balances with the State. You have painted two of the school-houses this year. I hope that you will be able to paint the South School soon. It seems from the general trend that schools will become more and more concentrated. I doubt if it is many years before the roads are improved to the extent that all pupils can be brought to a central school in Acworth at less expense than we now pay for transportation. We may at that time retain the seventh and eighth, perhaps even the ninth and tenth grades, in Acworth, but with the present road conditions I feel sure that we are doing the very best that can be done for the pupils. This trend toward the concentrated school with all its social values and specialized work brings another problem to our attention. School property that seems destined never to be used for school work again should be sold by the district before nature has robbed us of its value. I appreciate the support that I have had during the past eight years from the members of the Acworth School Board, the teachers and the citizens. Respectfully submitted, WALTER L. MASON
