3 Hello Everyone, PRESIDENT S MESSAGE Can you smell Spring in the air? I hope so since it has been a long winter in Michigan. We have a lot of great events this Spring and Summer for you to warm up and have fun. A group of us just got back from Park City to make this winter more bearable (see the park city article for more info). We went to three different resorts: Deer Valley, Park City and Canyons. I am looking forward to many of the upcoming events, like the euchre tournament, Guys and Dolls play, Tiger baseball, pontoon boat day and a canoe/camping weekend to name a few. It takes great people to run great events to make our club the best ever. I thank all our trip and event leaders many kudos to them for having wonderful activities for our members to attend. This will probably be my last message as president of GM Ski Club. It has been most enjoyable to be able to lead such a fun and exciting group. All the board members this year have been so helpful and cooperative that it has been a real pleasure to be a part of all of it. When everyone chips in, it is so much easier to run and operate such a dynamic club. Thank you board members for being so supportive and helpful. You are the best and I will remember all of you for years to come. Please attend our April 3rd meeting at Champps to vote in our new elected positions and celebrate our continued success. I am looking forward to our new leadership for the coming year. Dave Norkus, President GM Ski Club Park City Trip

4 By Dave Norkus, trip leader As you have probably heard, we had an outstanding ski trip to Park City. Twenty-three adventurous GM ski folks attempted a weeklong folly of fun, excitement and pleasure. I am convinced that everyone met this goal with flying colors. The weather cooperated fully with snow and sun and temperatures that combined to explode in a frenzy of excitement. It all started with a smooth transition from Detroit to Utah, except for the ½ hour delay for de-icing and wind speed. Seven people arrived without luggage until it arrived the next night. Delta gave vouchers for people to buy/rent clothes and skis until they received their luggage. I am not sure how you lose luggage on a one-way trip with everyone checking in at the same time with bright Park City Trip colored destination tags, but it happened and we succeeded in overcoming it. We had a wonderful welcome party at the Miner s Club at the Canyon s Resort. Appetizers and beverages were provided for everyone at a casual dining location with the fireplace roaring. Some said it was the highlight of the trip, but more was to come. With over a six foot base and more flakes to drop over the week, the skiers jumped for joy. Coats of sunscreen were needed for the abundance of sun beaming through the blue skies. We had no injuries on this trip. That may surprise many who have heard of past trips with our club. We checked every day and to our amazement we heard the same message did anyone get injured, not today. Maybe the conditions were favorable or we were having too much fun to ruin it on a misfortunate fall. If we did fall, we got right back up and smiled. Many on the trip already are looking forward to next year s location and we will always try to exceed your expectations for fun and the best deal possible for your skiing adventure. Stay tuned for announcements of our next trip. It will be a doozy I m sure. This year we sold out the trip in a single day, and we were able to add seven more. Eight skiers were on our waiting list but no openings were available. So don t delay in your decision to join us next year when the time comes. That s all for now folks

7 On St. Paddy s Day weekend twenty lucky (we sold out the event) GM-IRISH club members went to O Mara s Restaurant to hear the band Blackthorne. The food and service was good considering the place was packed. The band as usual was excellent playing a mixture of traditional Irish and popular songs with a little joking in between. The club has seen Blackthorne many times and hopefully will continue to do so in the future. Stan Sawicki
