The website provides a convenient easy way to communicate with our members and via the forum gives a means for members to communicate with each other. We have tried to make the site as user friendly as possible and we try to respond to feedback to make it better and better as time goes on. To start off with you will need to go to this gives the area of the site that is available to anyone who has access to the internet. In this area you can get information about all the events that are occurring for the year, links to other UK Chapter websites, forms to join HOG and our chapter, a link to the dealer s website, contact details and entry to the member s only section. On entering the members only section you will go to the chapter forum. This is an area where members can read messages from other members, find the latest news and also post there own comments for others to see. In order to use this facility you will need to register; this requires that you provide a name that you wish to be known as on the forum, a password that you can remember, your real name, your HOG number, your address and your chapter number. You will also be asked to copy a word that is presented to you as a security question, if you can t read it try loading a different code until you find one that you can read and please note they are case sensitive. 3 Caption competition - Winner gets a free newsletter next time! 1 2 Directors report And so it starts. 19 bikes turned out to the first official ride of the season, although the destination was altered in view of the weather forecast. As it turned out we stayed dry and it was reasonably mild so it was a good start for the coming year. May and the Iron Horse rally is fast approaching, the bands are booked, merchandise ordered, ride out route planed and vendors contacted. We now need some enthusiastic volunteers to provide the manpower we need to ensue that we have a smooth event and that no one chapter member is left with masses of work over the weekend. If you feel you can contribute please contact Dodders to offer your support. Thank you to all of those that turned up and supported the social night earlier this month. Although a spanner was thrown into the works at the last minute other members took up the mantle and along with Billy s band who provided a couple of hours of excellent music, turned the night in to memorable success raising 150 towards the expenditure of the rally. There are plenty of events on the horizon to keep you entertained over the coming months. The Chapter Open Day similar to the one organised last autumn will take place on 22 nd April at the dealership so make sure you come to support this. There will be similar games to last time, a ride in bike show, music, raffle and food. Hopefully we will make a profit this time. As a lot of you will know Tom is now employed at the dealers as their new salesman. This will be a great benefit to the chapter because well as being the chapter secretary he will also be performing the function of dealer rep. This should give us a closer tie into the dealers with greater understanding of what we both expect from each other. So if you want a new bike go and see Tom, support fellow chapter members. I hope to be seeing you out either on one of the ride outs or at one of the forthcoming events. Have Fun Ride Safe Andy Coe Chapter Director. Post suggestions on the forum or hand in to Tom at the shop The design for the rally pin has arrived. The rally T-shirts will be a similar design.

4 CHAPTER CHARITY For anyone who missed Janet s excellent talk at the chapter meeting, here is a short article about the special school we are supporting: SANDALL WOOD SCHOOL Thanks to HGM for the following contribution: I have dug up this pic of my first ever Harley. It was a 1980 Lowrider which I purchased in about 1984, reg. no. SRK182W. It had a mind of it's own. Sometimes you get about 100yds before it conked out, sometimes even further...ah the joys of owning a Harley. Sandall Wood School is a community special school for pupils aged between 3 and 19 years. It is designated for young people with physical disabilities and/or significant medical difficulties and as such, has purpose built facilities. As the only school of its type within the Authority, the school s population is drawn from all areas of Doncaster. Our aim is to enable every pupil, whatever their age or ability, to develop their maximum potential. We aim to create a lively, stimulating, supportive environment which has a wide range of up to date resources. Our pupils benefit greatly from a variety of specialised equipment which is often very expensive. Whilst the school budget covers essential items, extra funds help us to buy additional resources to improve the opportunities we can offer our pupils. My name is Chloe, I am six years old. At school I really enjoy music and splashing around in the pool. I use my eyes to show that I am listening What do I ride now...sore subject having just parted company with the custom Fatboy this week. Who would I like to run over and why? Good question, but I do not think I dislike anyone that much to dirty the tread of my tyres. The best event I have ever attended is Faaker See in Austria. I do not think any rally can beat it -- just ask anyone who's been. In this country, sort of, Thunder in the Glens in Aviemore is good with one of the best rides ever. Ace cafe is on the t-junction at Drobollach, Faaker See, where you can eat apple strudel with cream and pass the time of day watching thousands of Harleys pass by on their way around Faaker See. ( Get there early ). When we have music I get really excited and help when we have all the instruments out. At home time I tell my mummy what I have been doing at school by pressing my communication aid, it s called a Big Mac. My best technical tip is to take a few useful tools with you -- at least you look like you know what you are doing if you've got a spanner in your hand. Jokes -- Steve Webb -- ooh, I am a bitch. Please send you own reader s rides to: editor@stlegerhog.org.uk, for inclusion in the next edition if there is one!

5 SENILE DEMENTIA TEST It is quite a worrying fact that many Harley riders are born again bikers, and many past retirement age. Please try the following test to make sure YOU haven t got senile dementia Exercise of the brain is as important as exercise of the muscles. As we grow older, it's important that we keep mentally alert. The saying; "If you don't use it, you will lose it," also applies to the brain, so...below is a very private way to gauge your loss or nonloss of intelligence. Take the following test and determine if you are losing it or are still "with it.": OK, relax, clear your mind and... begin. 1. What do you put in a toaster? Answer: "bread." If you said "toast," give up now and go do something else. Try not to hurt yourself. If you said, "bread," go to Question Say "silk" five times. Now spell "silk." What do cows drink? Answer: Cows drink water. If you said "milk," please do not attempt the next question. Your brain is obviously over stressed and may even overheat. It may be that you need to content yourself with reading something more appropriate, such as Children's World." If you said "water," proceed to question 3 3. If a red house is made from red bricks, and a blue house is made from blue bricks, and a pink house is made from pink bricks and a black house is made from black bricks, what is a green house made from? Answer: Greenhouses are made from glass. If you said, "green bricks," what the devil are you still doing reading these questions????? If you said "glass," then go on to Question Twenty years ago, a plane was flying at 20,000 feet over Germany. If you recall, Germany at the time was politically divided into West Germany and East Germany. Anyway, during the flight, TWO of the engines failed. The pilot, realizing that the last remaining engine is also failing, decides on a crash landing procedure. Unfortunately the third engine fails before he has time to attempt an emergency landing, and the plane crashes smack in the middle of "no man's land" between East Germany and West Germany. Where would you bury the survivors?... in East Germany or West Germany or in "no man's land"? Answer: You don't, of course, bury survivors. If you said ANYTHING else, you are a real dunce and you must NEVER try to rescue anyone from a plane crash. Your efforts would not be appreciated If you said, "Don't bury the survivors," proceed to the next question. 5. If the hour hand on a clock moves 1/60 of a degree every minute how many degrees will the hour hand move in one hour? Answer: One degree. If you said, "360 degrees" or anything other than "one degree," you are to be congratulated on getting this far, but you are obviously out of your league. Turn in your pencil, and exit the room. Everyone else proceed to the final question. 6. Without using a calculator -- You are driving a bus from London to Milford Haven in Wales. In London, 17 people get on the bus. In Reading, six people get off the bus, and nine people get on. In Swindon, two people get off and four get on. In Cardiff, 11 people get off and 16 people get on. In Swansea, three people get off and five people get on. In Carmathen, six people get off and three get on. You then arrive at Milford Haven. What was the name of the bus driver? Answer: Don't you remember? It was YOU!! Now pass this along to all your "friends" and hope they do better than you did! 6 EDITORIAL We hope you ve enjoyed reading our first newsletter. As you may know, we only took the job to get some badges for our leathers! We have included a pull out section showing various rides and events for you to stick up on your notice boards. We are desperate for articles, ideas etc, as we don t have many of our own! Thanks for the following contributors this edition: Keith Mick We aren t revealing surnames, to prevent repercussions! Lynda View from the Woodside The new riding season is upon us, and like nature, in Spring St Leger has lots of new growth. There are new chapter officers, Baz, Dodders and Tom. Formal ride outs, with Dave Wright and the road captains, have started, and a whole host of new bikes have arrived. This year will see many new members joining the chapter, and if you are one, welcome to the jungle! Other members have moved on and the retiring chapter officers are thanked for their contribution. We wish all those have moved on safe riding wherever they ride. The shop has new staff members in Tom buy the f***in bike Carter and Steve Wobbly Webb. Burt has moved on to the Geordie chapter, and we re missing him already. The St Leger Iron Horse Rally is new for the Spring Season and just around the corner in May (see full page advert). We are working on new ideas for this newsletter and need your feedback! So it s on with the show - please check out the new features with Dr.Keith and HGM (Mick) contributing to the new look newsletter. We ve included a pull out section with rides and rallies. Ride safe and have loads of fun. Duncan GOT A PROBLEM? CALL DOCTOR KEITH He s here to sort out all your riding problems. Just lately I ve been approached by several among us with various riding problems here are just a few examples. Q. Dear Doctor Keith. I m experiencing problems when riding in the wet, in particular with a loss of grip, could this be due to the type of rubber I m using? A. Dear anonymous, yes you ve hit the nail on the head. Whilst we all like riding on slicks and experiencing greater feel and feed back, as conditions become more moist, more rubber is required to keep things safe this does mean however you will lose some feel. But on the up side you will be able to ride for longer. When things get very wet you will require even more grip to get a good response so a good tread pattern is essential, I find a good ribbed rubber often gives a positive feedback. Safe Riding, Doctor Keith Q. Doctor Keith, please help I m having problems. It occurs when group riding, whilst riding in staggered formation the other day I noticed a vibration followed by a throbbing (I think from my big end) eventually things got even worse and everything started to shudder and I noticed a large fluid leak was running down my leathers. Can you help? A. Dear troubled of Doncaster St. Leger do not worry, this is a common occurrence amongst new riders, and I myself suffered this phenomenon in the early days. The Chapter has a high percentage of female riders so in future try riding behind one of our male colleagues, this should sort it out. If after trying this, the problem persists please don t ride behind me or better still join another Chapter. Clean Riding, Doctor Keith. Q. Doctor Keith, whilst in conversation with some other chapter members the topic of counter steering cropped up, but I m confused I never know whether I should be pushing or pulling I m not even sure which way I m leaning can you help? A. Listen Pal, I m here to sort out riding problems not to offer counselling, now sod off to another chapter. Ride With Somebody Else, Doctor Keith. P.S. Send me a list of the other like you, they can sod off too. Q. Doctor Keith, I m a female 1200 Sportster rider and every time I ride above 80 mph I seem to be getting a wet seat, do you think it could be a problem with the gel padding? Can you help? A. Dear anonymous badasss 1200 Sportster rider this is not really my field of expertise, but have you ever considered riding a softtail? Failing this try having a word with wigjob who may be able to advise you on the use of incontinent knickers? Ride Dry, Doctor Keith.
