1 The Journal of the Cascade Mountain Men February, 2012 Minutes of the Cascade Mountain Men January 10th, 2012 Meeting was called to order at 8:00 P.M. by President, Jerry Jazbec. 19 members were present. This included 4 club officers and 4 trustees, our bushway and range officer. Minutes of the December meeting were approved as published. Dues are due for John Abbott also reported that some vendor money is coming in for table space at the gun show. COMMITTEE REPORTS LEGISLATIVE: Jerry received an regarding NRA instructors N.W. that there has been a bill submitted to the legislature regarding range preservation. Walt reported that a bill has also been submitted to create an NRA license plate. 10% of the proceeds would go Fish & Wildlife. Bill Number is HB 2202, sponsored by Dean Takko of Grays Harbor. Walt went on to say that the Seattle Times places any article, with respect to firearms, on their front page! To contact any one of your elected officials, for the purpose of submitting formal comment on their activities or pending legislation, follow the link below. Reminder: You can provide your input to anyone, at any level of government. You only need to provide your name and address. This cuts down on prank s. Vern brought up the issue of taxing the transfer of firearms. Ian said that this low is not new in the northwest. You can contact your state representative at the following link: LAND: No new information to report. We are still searching and considering all opportunities. WSMA: Walt reported that the WSMA annual banquet is being held on March 31st at the Tacoma Sportsmen's club. For people wishing to volunteer at the upcoming sportsmen shsow, (this is to help man the booth for Washington State Muzzle Loaders Association) contact Bill Daily to arrange for a ticket for free admission. Our mission is to sell membership in the State Muzzle Loaders association. Everyone should leave with a flier for our gun show. There has been nothing new to report from last month. LAND REPORT RANGEMASTER'S REPORT. Darrel reported that there were 13 shooters at the last shoot. Of those 13, 8 were shooting flintlock rifles. Our cardboard supplies have dwindled, as range folks from Issaquah have "borrowed" some of our cardboard. We are in low supply at this time. We may combine our order with that of Issaquah, to obtain a better price. Walt suggested that we may be able to obtain cardboard stock from Costco warehouse. The cardboard backing makes better use of the available space that we have allotted. RENDEZVOUS: Lee presented information regarding our rendezvous. We will have some new people working on it. It will be a "scaled back" version. He gave a brief history of the event. He said that we need 70 shooters to break even. His revised estimate will be $1500. This is for fliers, score cards, prizes, portable toilets and miscelaneous. He estimated that we will probably lose $1000 on this event. He said that rendezvous events are based upon shooters and traders. If one does not participate, the other will not either. He said that it may take several years to become profitable. Shooting or camping fees have not increased over the past few years yet related costs have increased. Traders will be required to pay tax or fee to the forest service, for what they sell. They will need to know this in advance. If we have 50 or fewer participants, we are not required to file with the forest service. Any numbers larger than that, we are required to file an application. Lee said that we had 12 people show up for the preliminary meeting back in September. Everyone made a firm commitment. This is a GREAT site for rendezvous. We are not trapped on someone's private shooting range. This is an OPEN RANGE site. Margret said that there are no events of this type in the centeral portion of Washington and there are becoming fewer events, east of the Cascades. Although the date is a little early, any later date would conflict with the Pacific Primitive Rendezvous. The dates will be an ideal "shake down" rendezvous for the PPR. M/2/A by the trustees to proceed! This rendezvous is Green Canyon site, out of Ellensburg. This is the old Running Cayuse site. The application has been submitted to the US Forest Service office in Cle Elum. GUN SHOW John reported that receipts from table sales has been brisk. We have sold 283 tables, with room for 400. Several members (John Abbott, Joe Schroeder, Chuck Lacher and Steve Baima) were meeting to create the table layouts for the show. John, Dick Armstrong and Joe had also mailed out the table confirmations to vendors. An from Bud stated that he has received the Insurance applications from Lockton, regarding our show policy. Bud will be back in town for the February shoot, not for the meeting. Next year, we should plan on shutting down the show at 3:00 P.M. N/2/A to do so. Margret volunteered to make up large posters for business fliers. Webmaster needs to contact Evergreen State Fair people, regarding updating of their electronic information for our show advertisement.

3 Joe Williams mailed an informational sales flier to John Abbott. This regards any special order items that may be requested by any of our members. If you have any special needs items to request, see John Abbott or the club secretary, regarding these items. OLD BUSINESS It was noted that Issaquah Sportsmen's club needs to be added as a rider on our general liability coverage. We commenced votes on conversion of some old by-law issues, into Standard Operating Procedures. The first, authorizes our monthly shooting match rules. The second authorizes our club rendezvous. These SOP's are attached to this newsletter. NEW BUSINESS Anyone holding club property, needs to notify Rich Downs. We are compiling a list of club property and the whereabouts of each item. Phone or please (425) or percman48@comcast.net. Club secretary has been asked to create a calendar of club events. This will include payments due, budgets, dates etc. Discussion ensued regarding method of carry-over prize. From this day further, half of the ticket drawing prize money will be added to the carry over. The carry over prize will increase in this fashion, from its base amount. Secretary has sent a notice to everyone that is receiving "snail mail" and has an address, why they need to continue receiving notices through the postal service. We took a quick inventory of all keys, who had them and what they fit. Jerry Jazbec gave his postal key to Andy Williamson. We are intending to hold at least 2 executive board meetings each year. Scheduling recommended was in the April time frame and just prior to hunting season. Jerry also indicated a need to recruit new members. He suggested that we create a mission statement and concentrate on recruiting at the gun show. We discussed issues regarding our club's expenditures, versus what income that we have. There has been discussion regarding member abuses of the gun show banquet. Recommendation has been made to locate an alternate site, where our club can utilize a banquet room and not be co-mingled with general population customers. John Abbott suggested that we again check out the culinary arts facility at Renton Vocational College. Seattle Trap & Skeet Club has been utilizing this facility and have been very pleased with the meal, facility and the cost is appropriate. Attendance at the gun show banquet is by invitation. It is intended for the personnel that WORK at the gun show and make the gun show work. Cascade Mountain Men Club is setting the expectations for this banquet. We discussed initiating a range fee at our matches. This would be to offset cost of prizes. This has been done in the past. New shooters have always been exempt from any club or range fees. It was noted that some of our shooters are not investing any time toward our fund raising event. We briefly touched upon participants within our gun show that have not been paying anything for their booths or displays, yet CMM incur expenses to facilitate them. In future gun show events, these participants may be asked to pay for their facilities that are provided by Evergreen State Fairgrounds and CMM. Shooter fees will be discussed again, under old business, during the February meeting.

4 GOOD OF THE ORDER Margret Noted that Dennis Morgan, one of the founding members if Interlake Muzzle Loaders, had died. Meeting adjourned at 10:00 P.M. Annual club dues for 2012 is due. Shooters, remember to check your membership standing with Issaquah Sportsmen's Club. Please remember Paul Velatta's request for "outdoor" magazines, regarding sports, camping, guns, fishing etc. Please collect your old issues. The American legion is sending these magazines to our soldiers on deployment in Iraq and Afganistan. Any collected magazines should have the recipient's address removed from the cover, before they are collected for re-distribution. Bear Creek Muzzleloaders have their shoot on the first Sunday of each month at 8:00 A.M. EXCEPT IN OCTOBER. Their October shoot is a night shoot on the last Saturday in October. For 2011, the night shoot will be October 29th. Be there by 5:00 P.M. This shoot is a lot of fun. You are encouraged to participate with this neighboring club. Harry Charowsly's number was drawn for the split purse. Dirk Armstrong's name was drawn for the carry over prize. It is noted in this news letter that one requirement of membership to Cascade Mountain Men is outlined in Article V of our Bylaws, which states: Membership in good standing, in any one of the National Rifle Association, the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association, or the Washington State Muzzle Loading Association shall be a prerequisite for membership in CMM. Please provide the secretary with your membership information in any of the above organizations. Thank you.
