1 REBELS AUTO CLUB NEWSLETTER OCTOBER 2013 Hello fellow Rebels, President s Message The weather is changing and there is a chill in the air. Soon we will enjoy the many holidays that come around this time of year and that means great times with family and friends. Even with all that nearing, don t put the hot rod away just yet. We still have a few activities left for the year. The poker run is coming up in a couple weeks and that is a great time, and a great last cruise or ride before the car covers and blankets come out as we put them away for the winter Don t forget about the elections that will be here in just a couple months. If you want to run for an office please plan on attending a board meeting and see the fun that goes on behind the scenes. It s a great way to get more involved in the activities and what goes on with the club. It s only two nights a month with the board meeting and the general meeting. Not a lot of time invested for a whole lot of fun. It s a great way to meet new members and new friends. As things start to wind down for the year, so do the activities for the club. We will try to stay busy with indoor activities during these winter months. If you would like to have a garage scene or have an idea for one, or another club activity, please get in touch with Scott or me. Things always slow down this time of year but they don t have to stop with the car plans. Time to start thinking about the changes we want to do while it s parked in the garage or something different to do to make it better. There is still some nice driving weather left and some good times to be had before we put things away and get ready for the holidays. As always with the up coming holidays and family time and travel time, please be careful and courteous on the roads. We should do this year-round, but especially during the holiday season. Be safe and enjoy the times as this is where memories are created. 2 September Meeting Minutes September 25 th 2013 at Denton Daily Double The meeting was called to order by President Dave O Melia at 7:30 pm. Dave welcomed all attending members. Renee gave the vice presidents report. The October meeting will be held at the VFW on October 30 th. Renee reminded everyone to bring cash or check as they do not accept credit cards. The November meeting will be one week early due to Thanksgiving, the meeting will be on November 20 th at Valentino s. The December meeting will also be one week early due to Christmas, the meeting will be on December 18 th at Parker s Smokehouse. The Rebel s Holiday Party will be on January 18 th at the Knolls. The October board meeting will be Tuesday October 8 th at The Garage, 7pm. The board meeting is open to all members to attend. A motion was made, seconded and approved to accept the vice president s report. The Secretary s report was given by Margaret. She asked if there were any corrections or additions to the minutes from the August minutes. Linda Masters said that the donation of the bone density test was from the Arthritis Center of Nebraska not the Arthritis Foundation. The newsletter deadline is October 1 st. Please get any articles or pictures to Tracee by that date. Ladies Night will be on Wednesday October 16 th at Haus of Aces (the former Lone Star location) at 6 pm. Please contact either Margaret or Jody White if you re planning on attending. A motion was made seconded and approved to accept the secretary s report. The Treasurer s report was given by Ken. He reported that $550 were received as the final accounts for the car show. And that the Rebel s had purchased a laptop and software for $447. Also there are funds on the Paypal account that need to be transferred to the checking account. A motion was made, seconded and approved to accept the treasurer s report. Coordinator Scott was not able to attend. His wife Lisa suffered a fall and fractured both of her kneecaps so Scott was home caring for Lisa. Jim McNeil reminded everyone of the College View Show and Shine which will be on Sunday September 29 th. They will be closing off 48 th Street for the event. Jim also reported that at the Nebraska City show Johnny Nunn received an award and Lydell Otley was a trophy winner. Jim Jensen gave the trivia answers from last month. He also asked Ethan to come forward and presented Ethan with a trophy and talked about how much he enjoyed spending time with Ethan judging motorcycles at Ethan s show. New Business: Meeting Minutes Pat Dugan talked about the College View show and shine which will be on Sunday September 28 th. 48 th Street will be closed from Bancroft to Prescott. Entry will be from the south. There will be three bands, kids activities and lots of door prizes. Everything is free. Lunch and drinks will be provided to all entrants. Lots of parking for spectators will be available in the church parking lot. For those who wish to stay after the show there will be a historic tour of the area. Old Business: Dave has scheduled a car show meeting for October 27 th at 4pm at Bill & Linda Masters garage. Mark Walker representing the SCCA presented the Rebel s with a check for $2,800 for their help on this the 5 th year that the Rebel s have volunteered to help at the cone races. Mark said they average 3,200 runs per year on the practice track and they could not do it without the help provided by the Rebel s. Sheryl Wright talked about the Rebel s poker run which will be on October 13 th. Leaving from Culver s, 14 th and Old Cheney at 3:30 pm. There will be 5 stops, $5 a card and ending at Mulligan s for dinner. Allen Christman thanked the Rebel s for their support of the Alzheimer's walk. Jim McNeil made the shirts. Allen said that Team Janine raised about $1,200. He thanked all who participated. The Halloween Party will be Saturday November 2 nd. A sign up sheet is being passed and also a sign up sheet for those who would like be in the soup/chile cookoff. It will be held at the VFW Club on West A. There will be door prizes and trophies for the best costumes. If you have any questions contact Sheryl or Sandy. Other Business: Paid reservations for the holiday party will start being accepted on October 1 st. The first 80 paid will hold a spot for the party. Craig reminded everyone that this year we will be electing a vice president, secretary, coordinator and one at large. Trivia by Craig. The meeting was adjourned at 8:15pm. Another great thing she does is she collects and delivers food to the Food Pantry, so if you think of it, bring canned or dry good to a meeting. She will be sure they get to the Food Pantry. Margaret & Lydell also take all the can tabs we collect to Ronald McDonald House in Omaha, so keep on giving them to them friends! ~editor

3 Car Show Meeting Sunday, October 27th 4:00 pm Bill&and linda masters home 6100 Rebel Drive ( This is a very important meeting!! Our 2014 Annual Rebels Car Show will be here before we know it and WE NEED YOUR HELP. NOMINATIONS WANTED For our club to run effectively we need to have support from our membership to carry out the key roles. Offices up for two year terms are Vice-President, Secretary, Events Coordinator, and At-Large. If you have been a club member for at least one year you are eligible for election to the club board of directors. Would you consider 4-5 hours per month plus your talent and input to make the Rebels even better. Please contact Craig if interested in running for a club position. The committee also needs at least 3 members for proper oversight of election and vote tabulation.position descriptions are available upon request. 4 Coordinators Report Well here we are starting off October and the weather is great!! Special thanks go out to those that helped make the College View Show a success. There are way too many volunteers to name - thanks to all. I would also like to say thanks for all the messages that have been left for my wife Lisa, after she fell and broke both of her knee caps. We hope that everything is going to be alright. There really isn t a lot that I need to talk about but how just want to say how great the year has been as members in such a great club. The club will be paying $13 for each member and members cost will be the remaining $12, Non-members pay the full $25. The smaller Garden Room is reserved and limited to the first 80 paid reservations. Payment/reservations begin October 1 st. After the first 80 paid reservations there will be a waiting list. 5 by Jim Jensen Member at Large THIS MONTH WE HIGHLIGHT OUR REBELS MEMBER S Don & Jody White This is one car that is not the normal hotrod or wild looking machine. The car has the long style and the beautiful lines of the past with lots of highly polished chrome in both the front and back. The unique style of this car is a show stopper and can relate to when Elvis was alive. ~Jim The color of the Cadillac is Daylight Pink which almost turns white in the twilight. The mileage, at the present time is 82,859. The Engine is a 375 HP 472 V-8 which is Bored and Stroked at 4.30 x 4.06 inches. The compression ratio is 10.5:1. The weight of the vehicle is around 4600 pounds and the length is 19 ft 2 inches. The car has options which include Cruise Control, Automatic and Climate Control Air Conditioning. The car is equipped with front power disk brakes. Interior has power door locks and leather seats with an original AM and FM Radio. The purchase of this car was a little unusual. We were leaving Lincoln in 2001 to go to Minnesota. Don went out onto Cornhusker and stopped at one of the local business along the way. We got out and went into the business and he told me to go look in the back. To our surprise there sat the 1968 Cadillac. Don had already set up the buy! Don had found this beautiful Pink Cadillac convertible. In Don s words this car is mine now. The story behind the car was first owned by Leon Donley of (Medical Supply). Don has known these people and was aware of their car. The car at first was a midnight blue. The 2 nd owner was owned by Mr. Pitman and he changed the paint to the pink. The reason being, Mr. Pitman went to school with Elvis Presley and Elvis loved pink Cadillac s. After we had the car a short time it got hail damage to the point that the car needed a complete overhaul. The body work included removal of the hail damage and the repainting of the car into the pink color it is today. Larry Meier of Autographic did all the body work, hand sanding, polishing and repainting. The car presently has a base coat and a clear coat Congratulations to Don and Jody for over 50 years of marriage. Well done! Anniversary graphics added to the Caddy.

6 Rebels covering Central Ave in Nebraska City. They said we won't be judged if we park together. So who cares about another Trophy? We met at Wal-Mart and caravanned to Nebraska City, cleaned and showed our rides, did some shopping and some even visited the orchard. It was so much fun with cars and friends on such a beautiful day!

Three main reasons: 1) Main evaporator and blower system took up over half of cars trunk space 2) No thermostat or shut off mechanism other than switching off the blower (cold air still came into the car since the compressor was still part of the drive belt) 3) Cost. It was a $ option in 2013 dollars that would be $4, What car was the first to offer installed A/C?
