Flag Salute was led by Nathan Romano. Roll Call taken by Patrick Fay. 19 Members, 0 Qualifying, 0 Guests Minutes of previous meeting read by Linda Torrey and approved by the club Treasurers Report: Read by Arnold Taffoya. See newsletter for details. Bills to be paid: None Delegate/Conservation Report: None Old Business: June Run: Norm Gerwein reported on gold Mine Trail run. 10 Jeeps left at 9:40 on a nice sunny day. See Newsletter for the complete report. He also recommended that Trail Bosses make a recommendation of a trail rating on future runs so that members are prepared with features on their vehicle needed for the run. La Verne 4 th Parade - Fourth of July: Dave Peifer reporting that 16 Jeeps and 40 participants were in the parade. Some had breakfast prior to the event at Roberta s in La Verne. After Judging, we won the Spirit Award for the second year in a row. BBQ at Torrey s followed the parade. New Business: July Run: Peter Dewhurst, Bob Bissell and Fred Valpena are the bosses. Meet at the Discovery Center at 9AM on July 14. They will be doing the Holcomb Trail. Rated Black Diamond. Cleghorn Cleanup: August 11 meet at Mc Donald s at 8:30 AM or at the trailhead at 9AM. August Run: Past President s Picnic at Bonelli Park, so far 20 of the 30 sites have been reserved and paid for. On July 13, Vince will turn back in the 10 sites that we did not use. Please call Vince with your headcount for the steaks and kid s hot dog meals so that we purchase enough for everyone. Guests will be $10.00 per person and they need to be in the count before we buy. Tickets will be issued to members at the event and Guests will need a ticket (you can pay Arnold at the event). Trail bosses for 2019 will be selected on Saturday of this event. September Run: Daryl Romano, Mike Bricker, Carlan Bennett, Mark Phelps and Patrick Fay trail bosses. Will be September 14, 15, 16. There is room for RV camping and we will be running the Sage Flats in Eastern Sierras. Maps will be in newsletter. Previews of the run posted on FB promise beautiful scenery. Campsite is a National Forest Campground at 7500 ft and most of the jeeping will be done at 10,000ft so it should be cool. You will need to drop your tow vehicle prior to taking your RV up the hill. Pit bathrooms are available, and there is fresh water. October Run: John Williams, Mark Bargman, Frank Cattern and Ray Kimpton trail bosses will probably be a piece of the Arizona Peace Trail from Bull head-yuma area on October 6 for 2 nights. One night at the Mark s house and one on the Trail. November Run: Not decided. Mark Bargman s old red jeep is for sale, call him if you are interested Past President s Picnic: will be in September instead of August. Dates are September at Newport Dunes. We have 30 sites reserved, cabins are also available. RV sites $42 and Cabins $99. Karyn Gerwein will be sending an with more details later. The 50/50 of $52 won by Sandy Rydell. 12 CA4WDA South District Meeting Page CALIFORNAI 4 WHEEL DRIVE ASSOCIATION INC APRIL 28, 2018 SOUTH DISTRICT QUARTERLY MEETING RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA The meeting was called to order at 10:45 am by Vice President Alan Bauer. Roll call was taken. The following clubs were represented: Desert Dawgs, Dirt Devils, Drifters, Gad Zuks, Geared 4 Fun, Hemet, High Desert, San Diego 4 Wheelers, San Diego Outbacks, Scouts West, Tierra Del Sol, Victor Valley, Rough Cutt, Jeep Expeditions, Associate member delegate. The following clubs did not have a delegate present: Capo Valley, Desert Burros, Eastern Sierra, Gear Grinders, Hill & Gully, Inland Jeep Freeks, Jeeping Jeepers, On the Rocks, Roughwheelers, Spinnin Fours, Trail Crew, Individual member delegate. There were no guests. The Treasurer s report showed a new balance of $ plus the raffle for January and April to be deposited. A Motion to approve the January 2018 meeting minutes as corrected was made by Jesse May, 2 nd by Keith Graham. Corrections: page 1 Marriott not Mariott ; Page 4, committee # 3: Blewett not Bluett ; page 4, # 7 : banquet not banquest. Motion passed. MOTION # 1. The agenda will remain open during the meeting. Vice President s report: Alan Bauer reviewed his printed report. He has been busy going to meetings and events. He reported that the green jeep has not been finished so it has not been delivered to the winner. He apologized that our regular meeting room was being used for special classes today, and not available to us. He noted that our convention in February, hosted by the South District had lost a significant amount of money. He thanked Andy and Barb Cunningham and all the workers who helped during convention. We discussed locations and types of conventions to have in the future is already scheduled in Sacramento. Will we have the convention centrally located (in the Central District) for all future conventions? Pros: centrally located to cut down on travel time and expenses (hotels are higher in the North and South District); They would still be hosted by each District. Cons: They would not be held in each District. Membership Chair report: Steve Moreno reported that he has attended several club meetings and noted that some clubs have younger members who are not getting involved. JK owners are a growing market. What about having expedition type runs? Cal 4 Wheel will have a booth at Big Bear Forest Fest. Steve would like to start an Instagram account.

13 CA4WDA South District Meeting Page President s report: Steve Egbert did not have a power point presentation today as our meeting was outside the restaurant area. To be a Cal 4 Wheel club, 100% of your members must be Cal 4 Wheel members. Our new Membership Management system is up and running. Cal 4 Wheel.org. To sign on, your user name is your address. Each club has an administrator assigned. You can manage member information on the site. ( change of address, officers, etc). And you can pay dues on the site. As of April 2018, our goal is 3392 member families. 28% of our members are in the South District, 21% in the Central and 47% in the North District. We have 47% of our membership are club members. The balance are individual members. Lobby Days was held in Sacramento with Ole and Sherry, Steve E and Jeff Blewett attending. They make the rounds of the Legislators, giving them information on our organization and our concerns in the off road community. Carnagie SVRA is under attack. Land was purchased 20 years ago to expand the park. Some people don t want the expansion. There is a bill to let State Parks sell the land. Steve asked everyone to write a letter opposing SB You can send s as the bill will be heard on Monday. Oceano Dunes is also under attack. An blast was sent out to everyone with information on what to do. State Treasurer s report: Steve Egbert reported that a budget committee meeting was held on line and will be reviewed again at the June Board of Directors meeting. Office Manager s report: Steve Egbert reported that if you club needs land use insurance, please send the information to Bonnie S in the Sacramento office before October. That is when our insurance requests go out for bid. ( The insurance insures the land agency in case something happens on the land). Natural Resource Consultant: John Stewart reported that the red stickers for motorcycles are being re-written by CARB. There are concerns with the upcoming rules. More information to come. Oceano Dunes is having issues with dust. There is pending legislation to define these air quality issues. These issues are also in the Imperial County and up into the Mojave Desert, the Central Valley up to Sacramento. What impact by motor vehicles? What about low income areas? What about the Central Valley agriculture areas? What about the Sierras? Comments on the DRECPT have been submitted on behalf of Cal 4 Wheel. The energy companies had the comment period reopened as they didn t like the regulations. Western Mojave Route Network Project: In the 90 s, clubs inventories routes in this area. These have been included in the BLM files. The plan is 900+ pages it has been in the works for 10 years. The preferred route has 6,000 miles of routes. # 1 is status quo, # 3 has 10,000 miles of routes. BLM has known errors. Russ Chung reported that the Bismark Mine to Wall Street overlook is proposed to be closed. If you know routes in the Calico area, please look to see if you routes are on the map. The CBD and the California Wilderness Coalition is fighting hard for closure. Johnson Valley and Stoddard Wells have been obmitted from the route designation. They are OHV areas. DRECPT has put some restrictions on land routes. June 14 is the comment deadline. John Stewart will do an evening meeting to go over the routes and how to comment. Go over the maps checking on your trails and get information to John. Identify the beginning or the route and where it ends ( destination), and give the reason why the trail is important to you. Ie: goes to an old mine; it s a good recreation area for a picnic, etc.

14 CA4WDA South District Meeting Page John Stewart touched on types of incorporations: are not for profit donations are not tax deductible, it is easier and no tax returns are required is IRS approved, donations are tax deductible and tax returns are required. Contact John for more information. Conservation and Education Foundation: Steve Gardiner reported on behalf of Mike McGarity. Grant requests are available for Cal 4 Wheel members and clubs, up to $250, to help with food costs, trail projects, supplies, t- shirts etc. Just submit an application with receipts. Write up an article with pictures for the In Gear. Shirley Bramham is heading up an annual Easter basket project through the Foundation. The Foundation awards scholarships annually at Convention. The next meeting will be in June, following the Saturday Cal 4 Wheel Board of Directors meeting in Sacramento. State Committee Reports 1) Sweepstakes Vehicle 17-18: The vehicle has not been completed. It should be done soon. 2) Sweepstakes Vehicle 18-19: Metal Cloak is the Master Builder. It is a dark silver (granite) 4 door hardtop, JL Sport S model with power windows, 8 speed automatic. Steve G asked Amy Sagraves to the the contact person between the builder and the vendors. 3) Convention 18 : Andy Cunningham was not present. Issues covered under VP report. 4) Convention 19: It will be held in Sacramento and was covered under VP report. 5) Hi Desert Roundup 18: Steve Moreno reported that the event is being sponsored by GenRight. John Snell is the Trailboss. Dinner is $10 ( pulled pork sandwiches). Pre-register to receive a free t-shirt. As of this date 101 have pre-registered. We are hoping for 205. High Desert and Dirt Devils each have 9 families pre-registered. Mike Hardy is doing the raffles. Angela Cook is doing the kids games. Danny is asking for help with the adult games. NAPA in Barstow has donated lots of stuff. Prizes are needed for the kids games. 6) Operation Desert Fun 18: Angela Cook mentioned that it will be held at the Blu-Inn RV park again this year. 7) Panamint Valley Days 18: Bonnie Ferguson and Jeff Godde volunteered to chair Panamint this year. Prices went up $5. Russ Chung will be leading the Death Valley run again this year. Raffle donations and event help is always needed. District Committee reports 1) ByLaws : none submitted, no report 2) Nominations/elections: Vice President s will be up for election in January. 3) Area Rep reports: A) : Angela Cook reported that there will be a Leadership meeting for the San Bernardino National Forest. B): Bonnie Ferguson reported that there are no work projects scheduled for the Old Ridge Route. 4) Merchandise: Steve Gardiner reported the that he has Sidekick maps for sale. He is checking into possible having a new design for t-shirts. 5) Mojave Road/East Mojave Heritage Trail: Russ Chung will send out an to confirm training on the West Mojave comments set for Saturday May 12 at 9am at Savy Off Road in Corona. (toward Corona Airport) 6) Publicity: We need a video to show at shows and to the public so that they can see the enjoyment of our sport adventures.

15 Old Business None CA4WDA South District Meeting Page New Business 1) Bo Neece thanked Steve and Alan for helping at TDS Desert Safari. There will be a post Safari meeting May 12 at the Training Center. 2) Convention 2021: We discussed ideas for the convention to be hosted by the South District in Should we have a one day convention? Have the Life Members breakfast Saturday morning and a General Session only on Saturday beginning at 10 or 11 am? Keep the Saturday banquet and have the new/old Board meeting Sunday morning. Possibly see if the antelope Valley Fairgrounds would be available and have RV parking? OR have it centrally located in Visalia at the Lamp Liter? ( the room rates are moderate and the meal rates are good, meeting rooms fit our needs as does the banquet room). More discussion to follow. 3) Bass Pro Shop/Ronald McDonald House: A Motion was made by Jesse May, 2 nd by Keith Graham to donate $250 to the Inland Empire Ronald McDonald House on behalf of Bass Pro Shop. Motion passed. MOTION # 2. Club reports: Clubs gave their activity reports. Meeting adjourned at 3:45 pm.
