Treasurer John Bur State Delegate Joey Morrison Editor & BlogMaster David Meyer Meeting Minutes The 645th meeting of the Drifters Jeep Club was called to order on November 5, 2015 at 7:34 pm by President Mark Phelps at the Finish Line in Pomona. The flag salute was led by Robert Smith. Roll call was taken by Vice President Shawn Gilpin. There were 20 members, 1 qualifying and 1guest present. The minutes from the October meeting were read by Mark Phelps with no corrections. The Treasurer s report was read by Mark Phelps for John Bur who was absent. See Treasurers report for details. Several members paid their dues and Suzanne Phelps collected them and will turn them over to John Bur. Conservation report - discussed the Cleghorn cleanup. We had 14 vehicles and did a lot of overall cleaning. Delegate s report - none given, Joey Morrison was not present. Old Business: October run to Death Valley area was postponed. A previous storm washed out the road into camp and several other areas. Trail Bosses felt it was too unsafe to attempt. They will try to reschedule. The Cleghorn cleanup was a great success. We picked up a fair amount of trash and trimmed quite a bit of brush that had overgrown onto the trail. The steel gate at the Silverwood end of the trail was broken off of its post and was leaning off to the side. We contacted the Forest Service and they are going to take care of it. Last month Anthony Loera dropped out of the Club which allowed us to vote in Gary Parkin and his girlfriend Judy. As of November 1 st, Mike and Yolanda Elliot are no longer members of the Drifters, Mike said because he was a trail boss for last month, they would stay through October. 2 Page 2 Minutes Continued New Business: November run will be to Mammoth Wash, Thanksgiving week. A new map is being sent out, old map is wrong. December run will be the Drifter s Christmas Party at the Hankla s house on December 12 th. January run: Arizona Mountains, cross country trip will end in Laughlin. Sounds like the women are going to meet the guys there. Run is Jan. 8, 9 and 10, Drifter Apparels On Sale NOW See page 6-7 February run: To be determined Bylaw changes: We discussed the proposed changes and let the Club know that they will be receiving the changes to vote on via soon. Each item will be voted on individually. There needs to be a 2/3 approval to pass any changes. So, if you disagree with something, vote NO on it. We also discussed the letters that went out to those members that have had ZERO points for at least a year or longer. Because Mike and Yolanda dropped out of the Club, we voted in Jerry and Linda Torrey. Congratulations and welcome to the Drifters!!! The 50/50 was won by David Meyer! Congrats David! Meeting was adjourned at 9:14 pm. The next meeting will be on Thursday, December 3, 2015 at 7:30 pm at The Finish Line in Pomona. 14 CA4WDC So. District October 24th Meeting Page 14 Blue Collar Rock Crawlers is a newly added club to Cal4Wheel. They currently have 14 members and are very active. They use Facebook and other on line media to meet and coordinate their club. Welcome Blue Collar Rock Crawlers. Including BCRC there were 13 clubs out of 33 in the south district in attendance. C4W goal this year is 3300 members. That adds a couple of hundred members. The sad part of the story is that 14 % of California households are active in some form of Off High Vehicles. It is a $7.7 Billion business annually. Yet we have only 3,000 that bother to sign up and help keep the trails they use open. Feinstein is pushing for an executive order to sign the Mojave Monument Bill. Fighting it but not sure, possibly passing this spring or later. C4W natural resource guy, John Stewart, helps input and maintain web sites, and Go check them out. Also look at the site. Also, see about a Nov 21st meeting on Johnson valley mainly the Marines want to use it next summer. BLM s highest priority is renewable energy, pushed by the feds and the state. Desert Renewable Energy Bill is planning to be passed and signed into law this spring. This bill creates zones for renewable energy and what is left for recreation. Flat Tailed Horn Lizard is being pushed to be on the endangered list. This would close almost everything from Palm Springs to the Mexican border. Fish and game rejected the evidence for the last 15 years stating that the lizard is doing well and no reason to place it on the endangered list. Gov to look at it in Feb C4W convention is coming up in Feb 16 at Rancho Cordova. The 2018 convention is being planned in or near Riverside. Anyone with college bound students can apply for a C4W foundation scholarship, no one applied the last couple of years. Operation Desert Fun had many of the helpers cancel at the last minute. It still made $5500 for the Veterans, Fantastic. Panamint Valley Days is coming up. Register on line or by mail. They need help leading runs and around camp. Shirts can be ordered with registration until Oct 30th, this year they are blue. TDS will be using the Indian reservation this year, runs end at Red Earth Casino. Magellan just released a new GPS model, explorist TRX7, many extra features that may be good for off roading. Next meeting is Jan 23, 2016, at the Ontario Jeep dealer.

16 CA4WDC Panamint Valley Days Page 16 Hey Drifters! I just got back from Panamint Valley Days this weekend and boy did you miss out on a GREAT time! The Valley has some of the best 4x4 trails and breathtaking vistas. Oh, did I mention all the great trails the valley has to offer! Here are just a few. Defense Mine, Lookout City, Goler Wash, Jail Canyon. And my all time favorite, Pleasant Canyon up to Roger s Pass then thru South Park and Rita s cabin. The weather was perfect too for wheeling Now can t wait until next year to do it all over again. David
