Dungeness Recreation Area Master Plan 2017 Question 10. Are there other comments, concerns, or ideas you would like to share? Answered 175 Skipped Dec :03 AM No 2 Dec :51 PM Thank you for providing the area. 3 Dec :28 PM Thank you for listening to those who use the park and for the gracious service of the park rangers. 4 Dec :25 PM We really enjoy the parks just as they are. 5 Dec :09 AM We have been camping at the Dungeness campground for many years and it is by far our favorite due to the cleanliness and the enforcement of the noise and curfew rules. 6 Dec :08 AM None 7 Dec Visitor safety must be paramount concern 8 Dec Consider Good Sam or other associations to bring in more people. 9 Dec :59 AM Keep the campground and surrounding area as natural as possible. It is a beautiful spot. 10 Dec :13 PM I sure like the newer reservation system for campsites. Before we had to send in two copies by snail mail. Love the showers! 11 Dec :21 PM I visited the park on a trip around ONP, chose to stay at the park because of it's beauty, will visit again. 12 Dec :37 PM To keep the main gates open later than 9pm, especially during the Spring and Summer. We were unaware of this. We d left the campground to pick up a late dinner in town and returned only to discover that we were locked out. Was very disappointed. 13 Dec :55 AM Nice park 14 Dec :43 AM We really like tenting at Salt Creek!! Don't change it! 15 Dec Please allow alcohol and/or marijuana. People should be able to enjoy those legal items. After 9pm quiet time. 16 Dec Need to trim tree branches and shrubs to improve campsite access. 17 Dec What we like most, is the privacy most campsites have on those, please do not clear out the brush/bushes anymore. That s what lends to your privacy. 18 Dec :24 PM I don't agree with the no alcohol in the camp area

19 Dec :02 PM Allow alcohol 20 Dec :01 PM Fantastic park ranger staff. 21 Dec :30 AM Keep the natural beauty 22 Dec :11 AM No 23 Dec :08 PM Keep up the good work 24 Dec :58 AM Nope 25 Dec :23 AM Connect to the bike path, that will add an additional group of users! 26 Dec :27 AM No thank you. 27 Dec Beautiful area, I love visiting 28 Dec The last time we camped there, we were next to a disrespectful group of campers in an RV (we are tent campers) who were loud all hours of the day and night, and were drinking and obnoxious. The ranger had to give them a warning. Generator use is also a problem, as campers use them all day and night with no regard for park regulations. Please address this issue seriously, or we will not re-visit the park. 29 Dec Volunteers are often overbearing to the point of combativeness. It s an unpleasant experience to someone who s owned property on the bluffs and has been visiting the park since 86. Calm down I get that you don t want folks walking on the east side of the spit. *Note Respondent is referring to USFWS volunteers. 30 Dec :55 PM Trails have really been improved (thank you!) but I wish there weren't so many large debris/branch/brush piles beside them. 31 Dec :58 PM I ve been using the Dungeness area since the early 1970 s. I ve walked the entire spit system many times when it was legal to do so. I most recently walked out to the lighthouse, earlier this year, with my wife. Still a wonderful experience. Everyone in our society benefits from having this type of resource held for the common good. Just it s existance, even without use, increases the value of our lives, our happiness, and quality of life in general. (We pay for a lot of things we don t use or experience, but still want to have, like clean water in a lake, even if one isn t a kayaker.). These things increase the intrinsic value of our communities and give back to society more in the long run than the money spent on them. Our political system operates on election cycles. We have public resources that operate on some longer cycles. I think it would be good to have occasional discussions on finding the best ways to deal with both cycles. 32 Dec :41 PM I love the way things are, but, a bike safe lane into the park would be nice for riders. 33 Dec :34 PM No 34 Dec :03 PM Nice park! 35 Dec :56 PM Continued public access and parking, that won't ruin the environment 36 Dec :36 PM We also the spit area as it is. A great place to visit

37 Dec :18 PM Our camping group was chastised because of the presence of alcohol. There was no noise complaint, no other problem, the ranger just noticed two friends "cheers"'ing, and requested that they pour their drinks out, which they did. Preventing adults from imbibing alcohol at their campsite while behaving respectfully towards other campers is ridiculous. Our quiet group of 40+ year old campers was made to feel like kids caught smoking behind the high school gym. 38 Dec :08 PM I love this area and drive the distance from Tacoma multiple times a year to visit. I hope you don't make this just another draw to those who really aren't looking to enjoy the natural beauty. There are too many of those kind of parks. 39 Dec :30 PM I am of the opinion that keeping the park small is NOT a negative thing. 40 Dec :19 PM Keep Trumpf out! 41 Dec :30 AM No. 42 Dec :17 AM No 43 Dec :39 AM Great Park, thank you! 44 Dec :20 AM I realize that with expanded visitation, or a desire to expand visitation, certain upgrades, and new structures will be necessary. In these considerations, please hold preservation as your foremost priority! When I say that I am in agreement with adding cabins for rent. I envision only a few small inexpensive cabins, without individual facilities. I would worry about adding luxury developments, or too many modest cabins. I have had camping experiences in this park like no other. The beauty, facilities/cleanliness, and fun I've experienced in this park is unparalleled among similar venues. I would be one very pleased visitor, if in the next 10 years I see very little change to how things currently are. 45 Dec :16 AM Love the park. Eager to come back. 46 Dec :00 AM We really appreciate the clean private showers there! 47 Dec :21 AM I love this park. It is an oasis for me and my family. We camp here every summer. 48 Dec :55 AM If you decide to "improve" the campground, please do not make the spaces closer together. The space between is some of the best around. 49 Dec :53 AM No 50 Dec :48 AM You guys are great! 51 Dec :30 AM N/A 52 Dec :18 AM None 53 Dec :08 AM This is my kids' favorite campsite--we found it a perfect way to introduce the kids to camping (having grown up as a noncamper myself, it was also the perfect place for me to start!) 54 Dec :01 AM Loved the park and planning to visit and/or camp again soon. Please do NOT build hard surface play areas like tennis or basketball courts, etc. People can play those sports somewhere else. A few more trails with signage would be good.

55 Dec :54 AM Your appeal is the size - don't grow too big or too fast. We love it just as it is. 56 Dec :42 AM Disappointing i could not bring my dog to the beach so we visited Port Williams and enjoyed that beach, nice out of the way park, thanks. 57 Dec :33 AM Nope 58 Dec :27 AM Keep the park free of trash. 59 Dec :07 AM Para- sport accessibility. 60 Dec :39 AM Get rid of the mosquitoes! 61 Dec :42 AM No 62 Dec :22 AM No 63 Dec :20 AM We love the park and campground as they are. raise the fees if income is the reason you want to make changes. thank you. 64 Dec :37 PM No 65 Dec :23 PM N/A 66 Dec :50 PM The park is a peaceful place that we feel comfortable booking for camping on long weekends -please don't pave it over! smaller "roll in" campsites for cyclists could be a draw especially if bike path is expanded. And perhaps consider yurts instead of cottages Dec :15 PM No 68 Dec :04 PM I've had a phenomenal experience both times I've visited. Looking forward to the next trip! 69 Dec :59 PM We love camping there, so please keep the camp sites great! 70 Dec :40 PM Better signage in the website and camping area about the beach being separate from the county park. 71 Dec :21 PM It's frustrating that I can't come into or leave the park at night. 72 Dec :17 PM I hike the spit a couple of times a year and often include the park in bicycle rides. I camped there once. It was clean, but crowded with RV's. 73 Dec :09 PM You are doing a great job! I'm impressed. 74 Dec :48 PM Overall, very happy with the park/campground 75 Dec :36 PM I love this campground - one of my favorites anywhere! 76 Dec :35 PM Enjoy camping at the park, although it is only 5 minutes from my house. Gives me a place to take the dogs, especially on the 4th of July - to get away from the noise. 77 Dec :50 PM Nope 78 Dec :40 PM See above. Maybe guided birding walks. 79 Dec :28 PM No

80 Dec :24 PM Not at this time. 81 Dec :20 PM See #9. Thanks for asking, BTW. 82 Dec :19 PM Access to the beach below the camping and picnic areas would be nice. 83 Dec :14 PM Beautiful place. We visited from wisconsin. 84 Dec :13 PM Really would like boat access to the spit. 85 Dec :08 PM No 86 Dec :07 PM The very high fire rings don't work very well. I know there needs to be a fire ring but a lower one would be better for keeping the fires going better and longer. 87 Dec :53 PM No. 88 Dec :52 PM Although I did favor adding a few utility sites it is not that important to me, especially since it encourages big rigs to take up lots of spaces for a long time.this is a lovely park that my family have visited many times for at least 30 years. I hope you are not forced to make it too expensive to visit but I do understand how hard it is these days to maintain these natural areas. 89 Dec :49 PM Some shelving and hooks inside the shower rooms would be lovely 90 Dec :46 PM Dust retention in campground area - many of the campsites are just pits of dry dirt. 91 Dec :37 PM This park is of high value to the eastern Clallam County / Sequim area for its history, its high sandy landscape and areas of dense forest habitat. Please preserve both the open spacious character and the integrity of the forest. Allow good driving experience, interpretation, large loop trails for both local and visitors (bird watchers and folks with leashed dogs too), and access to limited viewpoints for people with limited mobility or time. Be efficient with adjustments to camping areas to not further disturb trees. 92 Dec :31 PM Thank you, Clallam Parks! 93 Dec :29 PM A lovely place to visit. the views are worth the drive 94 Dec :24 PM Not at this time. 95 Dec :12 PM None 96 Dec :04 PM To tie into the bike trail system and full RV hook ups would be my reccomendation 97 Dec :02 PM Day passes to the beach/spit should be included with the camping fee. 98 Dec :59 PM Not at this time. 99 Dec :57 PM No 100 Dec :56 PM Limited hours for generators. 101 Dec :55 PM Don't over develop; its small small size is one of the best things about it. 102 Dec :48 PM We enjoy going to this campground and hiking the trails. It's a great place to enjoy nature. 103 Dec :42 PM No

104 Dec :38 PM We love having this great resource available to us 105 Dec :36 PM We enjoy the park. The park staff are always very helpful. 106 Dec :28 PM No 107 Dec :28 PM Keep it natural. 108 Dec :25 PM We really, really enjoyed the park when we stayed this past year to access Olympic National Park and the surrounding area. The staff were very helpful and kind, and we felt very safe. We felt bad about having to use our generator, so an electrical hookup would help. We were easily able to get water via our jugs, so having water isn't a huge deal to us. The dump station was a little tricky to get into with our trailer, but we made it work. Maybe a bit more signage to make it clear that it's really best to approach the dump station from one specific direction. Otherwise it is a lovely, lovely park and we plan to return again in the future. We loved it! 109 Dec :22 PM After hours parking: we pull a big trailer with a big truck and usually have an xtra vehicle- (for grandkids) would like to be able to park at restrooms after gate is closed. Final note: Rangers have been very friendly and knowledgeable! Kudos! 110 Dec :15 PM I felt as though the park rangers(?) were looking for issues. A friend parked near our trailer and there were branches of bushes touching their car, and an issue was made of it. The no drinking policy was pretty ridiculous. A glass of wine or a beer while sitting in or around my trailer should not be an issue. All together, did not feel like a welcoming place. Don't plan to return. 111 Dec :13 PM No. 112 Dec :10 PM No but thanks for asking. We love your park 113 Dec :01 PM I have only visited once. But it is one of my favorite spots. Very clean and friendly place. Love it! 114 Dec :59 PM Restrooms - could upgrade & add more showers. We like that the campsites are rather secluded & "wild". We like the peace & quiet, & that this park is near the ocean. 115 Dec :58 PM Campgrounds in BC are building bike tracks that take up about half a football field in area. Kids do laps all day. It's a great way to keep them contained while they exercise and have fun. 116 Dec :55 PM Only been to the park once - that was not an option in the survey. 117 Dec :53 PM None at this time. 118 Dec :50 PM No 119 Dec :49 PM No we have enjoyed the times we have been to the park. We did have a 3-4 people camping next to us one visit they appeared to be "living" in various campgrounds. The park staff was aware of them staying past their time to check out but allowed them to take their time in packing up. The park staff did check in on them but it caused for a disruptive afternoon for the campers in the vicinity of this group. 120 Dec :49 PM Lookin good

121 Dec :42 PM It isn't very clear on the reservation page that the gates lock at 10pm. I even had a specific note on my reservation that i would require late entry and no one responded to tell me it wasn't possible. Please make it more apparent that you have to arrive by 10pm. 122 Dec :40 PM None 123 Dec :37 PM We loved our visit there. We will be back! 124 Dec :33 PM No 125 Dec :33 PM No 126 Dec :33 PM Improve personnel. Camp ranger snotty rude 127 Dec :28 PM No 128 Dec :25 PM None at this time 129 Dec :25 PM Our scout troop was a casualty of the inflexible cancellation policy of the campground. So thoughts on increasing revenue in the park by improving camping stings a bit as you received revenue from us that could have been refunded. 130 Dec :24 PM We loved being able to purchase firewood from the camp host, please continue to offer that! 131 Dec :18 PM This park is one of our favorite places to camp. 132 Dec :15 PM We love Dungeness and look forward to new advancements Great place! 133 Dec :15 PM Thanks! 134 Dec :13 PM None 135 Dec :12 PM I have only visited the park once--that wasn't an option, but wanted to let you know. 136 Dec :11 PM On our last visit (a repeat visit), we found the park delightful and would return without improvements. 137 Dec :11 PM Campsite was very loud, it would be great to separate out campsites for tents and campsites for RVs so that people in tents dont have to listen to trucks. 138 Dec :07 PM Nope! 139 Dec :07 PM A combined camping/trail-access fee would be great. I got caught once camping (pre-paid) where I didn't bring cash for the trail-access fee to the spit. I had some disappointed kiddos. 140 Dec :06 PM No, we really enjoy staying at the park 141 Dec :03 PM I plan to return, it's beautiful. 142 Dec :03 PM I am concerned now as a result of this survey that the campground is going to become an RV site - more like the KOA. RVs require vast amounts of electricity and the infrastructure required to support those vehicles is contrary to the natural experience our family seeks at the park. 143 Dec :30 AM Thank you! 144 Dec :41 PM DRA is a wonderful Clallam County asset

145 Dec :42 AM The Park in it's natural state, should be preserved and allowed to be an inviting companion area to the Dungeness NWR. It's a unique location.. use it! 146 Dec :23 AM Clallam County has an amazing park system. Improving Dungeness will enhance an already stellar location. Good luck! 147 Dec :33 AM Put it in question Dec :28 AM No 149 Dec :28 AM Clallam County has a very nice park system. Please keep up the good work! 150 Dec :22 AM This is a wonderful park. 151 Dec :24 AM Need more ADA accessibility, we are all getting older 152 Dec :41 PM It's a wonderful park. 153 Dec :01 PM Connecting the ODT is a great idea, and, please include an equestrian component. I would also request limited access for equestrians to the Spit. One day a week, or? And rules that would make the trail down safe. Riders and public can be educated. Thank you. 154 Dec :39 PM Yay for parks. 155 Dec :27 PM Yerts or cabins to increase winter camping opportunities for families who can t afford an rv 156 Dec :13 PM We love the park! 157 Dec :39 PM There needs to be a better distinction between the County park and the Refuge. Most people think it is all the same place. The Refuge has different rules. Clarifying this for visitors and making the boundary more clear may help. 158 Dec :36 PM It would be nice to have 1 designated off leash area/trail for dogs! 159 Dec :23 PM None 160 Dec :10 PM We love the park and visit often. We feel safe except when having to jump out of the way of bikers. I have no idea what a utility campsite is so was unable to understand some of your questions 161 Dec :43 PM Keep up the good work. 162 Dec :29 PM Thanks for all you do to provide a safe park with quality natural experiences 163 Dec :00 PM We don t need more roundabouts, paved trails, we need more breathing dpaces 164 Dec :33 PM It's a beautiful place. I would hate to see too much development there. I think it is great the way it is. 165 Dec :27 PM I think some of the fallen limbs and branches should be somewhat cleaned up and used for firewood. Staff could do that then leave a pile for any campers coming in. Plus in a dry spell/hot season, it will reduce fire hazards. 166 Dec :26 PM No 167 Dec :28 AM The ban on jogging on Dungeness Spit is ridiculous and unenforceable. Children darting around the beach are far more disruptive to birds than predictable, even-paced runners.

168 Dec :07 AM Having to pay to access the beach is a giant turn off to my family. Also having guides there to interrupt my family time is super annoying. 169 Dec :49 AM I wish it was publicized more. I have only ever driven through to look at the Refuge, and not sure what is available there, or where to go. 170 Dec :16 AM Noxious weed control should be pursued a bit more aggressively, including the reed canarygrass. Although probably more of a refuge issue, parking at the north end of Voice of America has become problematic. 171 Nov :00 PM Keep the trails marked and smooth without chuck holes from the rains. 172 Nov :32 PM We love the park(s)! We want the park to remain as close to the natural setting as possible but to still be accessible to all. 173 Nov :35 AM Be sure to address impacts of climate change on long-term plans for the park. 174 Nov I hope you can continue to maintain the ocean bluff trail. It is the one our visitors enjoy the most. 175 Nov Great park
