GREETINGS FROM THE PRESIDENT I hope by the time you read this I will have visited with you at the pig roast. It should be nice weather and a great time. I m going to get right to the good news we received today in the form of a phone call from Mr. Jack Cherry of Two-Cylinder magazine. Mr. Cherry informed me that he is working with his attorney on creating new agreements that can be signed by area two-cylinder clubs allowing us to keep our name and affiliation with Two-Cylinder magazine. This call from Mr. Cherry was prompted by a letter from the NEITCC Board of Directors expressing our feelings about being able to comply with the requirement set forth in a previous notice in his magazine. It appears that the issue of changing our club name may be able to be resolved. There will be some requirements in this new agreement, but from what Mr. Cherry told me in the call, we should be able to comply with them easily. I will update you as I get more information. An abbreviated copy of the Aug. 16 th letter sent to Mr. Cherry is shown below: Dear Mr. Cherry: I am writing this letter on behalf of the membership of the North Eastern Illinois Two-Cylinder Club. We are a small club located in northeastern Illinois with approximately 80 members who come from all walks of life. We were very distressed to read your notice in the Jan. / Feb. issue of Two-Cylinder magazine. NEITCC has been an active club for many years and has worked diligently to provide enjoyable activities such as tractor shows and rides, plow days, picnics, banquets, technical workshops as well as a monthly newsletter. In addition, the club strives to educate members and the public on the importance of the role of the John Deere two-cylinder tractor as part of the agricultural history of our country as well as the legacy of Deere & Company. Most of our members own one or more two-cylinder tractors, but a good number do not own a tractor and simply belong to the club so they can enjoy our activities and friendship. Many of us do subscribe to your magazine and attend your shows and would like to continue to do so. However, our board is concerned that if we require everyone to subscribe to Two-Cylinder magazine, we will lose many members since the dues to belong to our club will increase from $15 per year to $49.95 per year. The NEITCC board of directors has held several meetings to discuss how we could best address this issue. To be succinct, please know that we do not want to change our name. We are very proud of it and treat it with great esteem. Inclusion of the term two-cylinder identifies what we are a group of loyal members whose focus is on antique John Deere two-cylinder tractors. We understand Two-Cylinder is trademarked, but our membership is hopeful there is a way we can gain permission to continue to use it in our club name. If that is not possible, we will change our name in compliance with your notice and hope to keep as many members as possible. 2 PLOW DAY at Pat and Lanny Gray s is set for SEPT. 25 th with an 8:00 a.m. arrival and plowing to start about 8:30. Lanny has been diligently working to pack the ground very hard so our tractors get to work very hard. If anyone needs directions or other information about the plow day, please call me. I spoke with Bob Johnson about plowing at his place during the OCTOBER 10 TH CORN PICKING DAY. We decided that maybe the following weekend might be better for plowing. We ll see if it works out. The weather couldn t have been better, more members joined in the tractor ride than in past years, many, many of our faithful pig roast attendees were there, and there were quite a few members and guests who hadn t yet enjoyed this annual event and came to see what it s all about. We sure hope more of you who haven t joined us yet will plan now to do so next year. The food is awesome, the opportunities to talk tractors are endless, and it s just an all-round fun day. 3

4 The tractor ride began at about 12:30 p.m. and the drivers returned to the pig roast site right around 2:00 just when the other attendees were arriving. Shortly thereafter, Bill rounded up the crowd to take part in tractor games. There were lots of takers who had a great time, and the audience had lots of laughs at the expense of the drivers. The tractor ride drivers included: Tim Collins Dennis Dunlap Ken Ebel Bob Johnson Ken Reese Ron Schroder Renee Schroder Paul Ziller Bill Cunningham didn t drive a tractor but rather followed behind in his pickup pulling a trailer, just in case. He also met the tractor line at intersections to make sure it was safe to cross. Everyone had a great time and to top it all off, Bob Johnson didn t run out of gas or have a flat tire! MEMBER FEATURE ARTICLE Tim Collins is a recent member of NEITCC. He found out details about our club at the Gathering of the Green in March 2010.

5 MEMBER FEATURE ARTICLE Tim Collins is a recent member of NEITCC. He found out details about our club at the Gathering of the Green in March He had made the commitment to learn more about early John Deere tractors as a hobby and had his JD 40 at that time. He had subscribed to Green and Two-Cylinder magazines for awhile and went to the Gathering with one of his objectives being to find a club in the area that he could join. We are very glad that he ended up with our club and welcome his enthusiasm about the hobby. Like many of the club members, Tim has an agricultural past. He was born and raised on a farm just west of Elgin near Plato Center. The first and only tractor on the farm for several years was a JD 70 gas (no power steering). It was used as a workhorse spending many hours in the field at a time and frequent oil changes during the planting and harvesting seasons. There were five boys and five girls in his family so there were plenty of siblings to keep the 70 running for long periods of time. Finally, after several years, his Dad bought a used JD A from a farm equipment dealer in La Fox for a price of $ Tim got to drive the tractor home from La Fox and really enjoyed that experience. Tim was very excited about the opportunity to drive the tractor that distance. Eventually they picked up a JD R Diesel to increase their ability to maintain the farm. Along with crops they also grew beef cattle, feeder pigs and chickens. Tim still has brothers working the farm and the JD A and JD R are still there. Tim left the farm at age 17 to start his own career. He now owns a Septic Contractor business and has a large amount of equipment to keep that business going.
