Hi Everyone, It was great to see so many Wanderers making the 4000km journey to the AGM Event in Launceston. It was a terrific event, with excellent riding weather in a perfect riding state. I was so envious after hearing all the wonderful stories of where everyone went. I coordinated the Gear Shop at the event and from the amount of people that went through the doors and spent money (especially on the days Dave worked!!), I think it was quite successful. It is good to see that everyone has now made it back safely. There is not too many people that don t know about Chris receiving the prestigious Dearnley Medal for services to the club. I think that everyone has seen how much work Chris puts into not only the branch but also the club and it comes as no surprise that he was awarded the medal. Congratulations and well deserved. The inaugural Black Dog Baldivis 1 Dayer was held last month. Again, another successful event organised by a dedicated group of Wanderers. All through the ride I had the most incredible feeling of pride at what our members achieved. Congratulations to Chris, Joe, Julie and Derek for putting in so much time and effort into a most worthwhile cause, and a huge thank you to all the amazing helpers on the day. It is very humbling to be amongst such warm and giving people. Well done Wanderers. Nominations for the Warnbro Sound Wanderers committee close at the end of the April meeting. It is good to see most of the existing committee has renominated. Life on the committee can t be too bad J We have another great ride calendar for you to enjoy over the next 3 months. Having such a full calendar is one of the big drawcards of this branch. Again, thank you to the many people who work hard behind the scenes to get it filled. Looking forward to another month of great company and rides. Take care of each other, Dianna It s Only Money Hi Wanderers, The balance this month is $ Dianna & I finally sent the financial reports from last year to the National Treasurer, and once he has checked these, he will let us know how much GST needs to be paid. We heard last week the Mandurah Half Ironman will no longer be taking place, due to it no longer being financially viable. This was a big fundraiser for our branch, as we supplied 30 bikes for technical, media & first Aid transport. It means we will need to be a little more conservative when funding branch events like the Christmas Party, and when making donations to charitable organisations. In the outgoing expenses in the immediate future will be some new yellow vests, to replace those lost or no longer serviceable. Thanks to those I nagged into leading rides over the next three months J.It s great to see some new names up there. Hope to see you on a ride or event soon. Chris Page No: 2 Volume 16 Issue 4

BRMSTIK BABBLE! Secretary Report April, 2016 Thanks everyone for the continuing support you give us, both Branch members and committee members. We have had volunteers working and volunteering at Triathlons again raising funds for donations to charities and future Branch funded events. Our ride calendar has been filled for the next 3 months with many various rides and social events. Just because the weather is changing doesn t mean we hibernate get your clobber on and join us out and about. I am pleased to see new faces coming along and it s always great to see the long time members too. Just a reminder if you would like to join us in the First Aid Rider Down course, it s on the 21 st May 8am please let me know so I can book you in. Always take care, be aware, and be kind to each other. Cheers, Julie Wilcox # /4/16 Star Thai for Dinner then Dome Waikiki for Coffee Page No: 3 Volume 16 Issue 4

Ulysses Members RV-WA Rally at Quininup Feb 2016 The 3 rd birthday celebration for the WA Branch was held at the Quininup Eco Park, 30klm south of Manjimup. 16 vans and 2 carloads, totalling 38 people attended the weekend and all had fun. The general consensus was it was a resounding success, even the March flies were happy to have new blood to feast on. Meet & greet was held under the Dennis s Tree then 16 members went for a pub meal next door whilst the remaining members sat by their webers and prepared a home cooked meal followed by drinks. Everyone joined in on the morning tea on Saturday before heading off to explore the sights of Quininup, Manjimup and Pemberton area. Several of the local wildlife joined the celebrations with kangaroos, emus, birdlife and march flies aplenty. Saturday night was the Pot Luck dinner held under the Dennis Tree, a brilliant effort by all and a wonderful selection of food was enjoyed There will be another rally held between June and August we re still waiting for final details and we re also planning a tag-a-long event for 3 rd to 10 th Sept leaving from Willowbrook Farm caravan park GinGin on Mon 4 th then travelling over the next 4 days to Mullewa. Thank you to Keith Sylvester for giving me the information in this article and if you ve got any questions please contact him. Page No: 7 Volume 16 Issue 4

AGM Event Launceston 2016 Ulyssians are a funny lot. They will ride 4000kms across the country, through 40 degree heat and torrential rain, but ask them to walk from the campsite to breakfast, and look out! This years event sprawled out over a large area, and the local team did their best to accommodate members, with a day parking area next to the traders, and three buses running from the campsite to the food and traders areas. The buses were driven by member volunteers, who had to put up with a range of complaints that ranged from not being dropped at their tent door, to there being dried (almost dust) cow pats in the paddock. It seems like these small majority have become Diva s and Princesses, and I wonder if it is time to say toughen up Princess? The rest of us had a great time, which was evident by the lack of people in the campground and traders area during the day, and even into the evening. Members were making the most of the glorious weather, excellent riding roads and great selection of cafes and restaurants that the Launceston area is famous for. The organised rides saw an unprecedented number of riders, and the self-guided rides were just as popular. The only downside to this was the traders were a little quiet at times, although one trader told me it was his third best year, in ten years of trading. The Ulysses gear shop also did well, selling out of many items, and there was not a lot of stock to transport back to the Administration Office. The Saturday dinner was the best I have had, perfectly cooked and good sized servings. I think the two Marquees also worked very well, with those in the quiet tent still able to watch proceedings thanks to a big screen showing live video of the band and speeches, but still allowing conversation between friends. Finally I would like to thank the Launceston team for a great event. It was great to see them still smiling at the end of the event (or maybe because it was the end of the event). For me I will remember it as an event where members really made the most of the great riding roads, and where the locals all made us welcome. Chris Glover Page No: 8 Volume 16 Issue 4

I think the chance of rain stopped a lot of people coming but with an overcast 28 degrees evening it couldn't of been more perfect down the beach front for fish and chips then onto Dome or coffee. Good Friday Maintenance Day Page No: 12 Volume 16 Issue 4

TOODYAY VIA SWAN VALLEY The nice day enticed a good sized group to the start point, including two Spyders and a trike. We avoided the main roads as much as possible, because the freeway was closed which always turns the other main roads into carparks. It was pleasant riding through the hills, apart from a few Sunday drivers, who seemed more interested in the scenery than their speed or road position. There were also a few learner drivers, and a cycle group that acted like it was a closed road, and rode two abreast so they could chat as they rode, leaving cars to overtake however they could. Two speed cameras in Kalamunda, and a car running into the back of a Triumph (not one of ours!) concluded the interesting ride to the coffee hut. A few returned home after coffee, but most ventured on through the Chittering valley. The roads have been resurfaced and widened down both Chittering and Dewar s Pool roads, and we had a moving parade of vintage bikes coming towards us as we headed to Toodyay. Old Hondas, Nortons & BSA s chugged past and gave us something to look at as we rode along. The bakery in Toodyay was excellent, serving delicious gourmet pies and fresh rolls. We sat upstairs to eat in the cool air conditioned room, and even ventured outside to the veranda to admire the bike lined street. The ride home down Dewar s Pool road was the best part of the ride. The sweeping bends and long downhill sections made staying within the speed limit a real challenge! I think everyone enjoyed the ride, as most were right behind me as we reached Great Northern Highway. We detoured off the highway at Chittering Road, to break the ride home up a bit, before coming out at Bullsbrook, and back to the highways to home. We did about 400kms all up, but I think everyone enjoyed the day. Chris & Dianna Page No: 13 Volume 16 Issue 4

Radar warnings by Mark Hinchliffe No doubt police will be out in force this Easter, so it is important to alert other motorists of their presence by flashing your lights or waving an alert. The law says you can flash your high-beam headlights to warn other motorists of dangers in certain circumstances, so long as you don t dazzle other road users. Some road rules indicate that you cannot flash your high beams at closer than 200m. However, if you do it in the daytime, you can t be accused of dazzling drivers with a few hundred watts of headlight when there s a multi-billion-watt lightbulb in the sky, can you? Riders can also warn other road users of incidents ahead oil spill, gravel, crash, traffic jam, police presence, etc by using hand gestures such as waving your hand downward to indicate they should slow down, the whirlybird finger gesture indicating police ahead (either at the scene of an accident or with radar etc), or a camera-clicking finger gesture to indicate a speed camera is ahead. At night, motorists won t see your hand gestures, so you could perhaps use your hazard lights instead of high beam to avoid dazzling oncoming traffic. It s nothing more than what radio stations do when they alert motorists to crashes, traffic jams or speed camera locations. While some police may say this is preventing them from doing their duty, it could also be seen as assisting them in the execution of their duties that is if their duty is to make our roads safer and slow down motorists at that particular black spot as determined by the positioning of a radar unit. However, if police duties are to collect revenue, then, yes, we are preventing them from doing their tax-collecting duty. Page No: 14 Volume 16 Issue 4

New definition for S.O.S. A C-130 was lumbering along when a cocky F- 16 flashed by. The jet jockey decided to show off. The fighter jock told the C-130 pilot, 'watch This!' and promptly went into a barrel roll Followed by a steep climb. He then finished with a sonic boom as he Broke the sound barrier. The F-16 pilot asked the C-130 pilot what he Thought of that? The C-130 pilot said, 'That was impressive, but Watch this!' The C-130 droned along for about 5 minutes And then the C-130 pilot came back on and Said: 'What did you think of that?' Puzzled, the F-16 pilot asked, 'What the heck Did you do?' The C-130 pilot chuckled. 'I stood up, stretched my legs, walked to the Back, took a leak, then got a cup of coffee and A cinnamon roll.' When you are young & foolish - speed & flash May seem a good thing! When you get older & smarter - Comfort & dull is not such a bad Thing! Us older folks understand this One, it's called A man is driving along a highway and sees a rabbit jump out across the middle of the road. He swerves to avoid hitting it, but unfortunately the rabbit jumps right in front of the car. The driver, a sensitive man as well as an animal lover, pulls over and gets out to see what has become of the rabbit. Much to his dismay, the rabbit is the Easter Bunny, and he is DEAD. The driver feels so awful that he begins to cry. A beautiful blonde woman driving down the highway sees a man crying on the side of the road and pulls over. She steps out of the car and asks the man what's wrong. "I feel terrible,"! he explains, "I accidentally hit the Easter Bunny with my car and KILLED HIM." The blonde says,"don't worry." She runs to her car and pulls out a spray can. She walks over to the limp, dead Easter Bunny, bends down, and sprays the contents onto him. The Easter Bunny jumps up, waves its paw at the two of them and hops off down the road. Ten feet away he stops, turns around and waves again, he hops down the road another 10 feet, turns and waves, hops another ten feet, turns and waves, and repeats this again and again and again and again, until he hops out of sight. The man is astonished. He runs over to the woman and demands, "What is in that can? What did you spray on the Easter Bunny?" The woman turns the can around so that the man can read the label. It says.. "Hair Spray: Restores life to dead hair, and adds permanent wave." S.O.S. Slower, Older and Smarter... Page No: 16 Volume 16 Issue 4
