1 SUN CITY GRAND RV CLUB November 2016 President Laurie Stewart Fall has arrived! At least that is what we are being told! But I m not feelin it, are you?! Were you at our October meeting?! WOW!! We had 92 members and 8 guests in attendance! Please WELCOME our newest RVing friends: Linda & Mike Dailey, Craig & Maryl Weady, Larry & Ann Apple, Mark & Catherine Engel, Craig & Chris Gaare, Ray & Suzy Mitchell and Jim & Mary Winterstein. We ve had some very successful, fun rallies this summer beginning in May with the Lake Powell Rally. October was the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta Rally, followed by the Welcome Back Rally in nearby Tonopah. Next up is the much-anticipated Chula Vista Rally where we will play in the sun, sand and surf in beautiful San Diego. Next Meeting Tuesday, Nov. 15 5:00 p.m. Agua Fria Room Cimarron Center POTLUCK & GAME NIGHT!! Where would YOU like to go? Put on your thinking caps and contact our Trip Directors, Mike Schwab and Ray Granzow, with your ideas at tripdirector@grandrv.org. Also, we need Wagon-Masters! Find a club member who has one or more smiley faces on their name tags. These are the folks who have experience being Wagon-Masters. Find out what it is really like to lead a rally from the experts. It can be as easy as calling an RV park to reserve a block of sites! So, don t be a and take the plunge! We have folders from past rallies with all the information you will need to put together a rally. Our November 15th RV Club meeting is going to be jam packed! We will be having the election of our 2017 Officers followed by a potluck and game night! The following members have agreed to serve on the Board of Directors for 2017: Penny Betcher - President Tony Marotti - Vice President Vicki Keel - Secretary Janice Porter - Treasurer As a reminder, when you sign in for our monthly meeting, please remember to show your CAM card and initial the sign-in sheet (no check marks please).

2 And please be sure to silence your cell phones during our meeting. I look forward to seeing all of your smiling faces at our general meeting on Tuesday, November 15 th at 5:00pm in the Agua Fria Room at Cimarron! Vice President Penny Betcher The Welcome Back Rally was great fun. The staff at the Saddle Back Mountain Ranch were welcoming and let us have exclusive use of the main clubhouse with its fully stocked kitchen. A friend called me and asked how the rally went. I said it was fun except for the high wind, blowing dust, and over 95-degree heat. We couldn t play any outside games because it was too hot and windy, and, oh yeah, there is a chicken farm right by it so everyone was greeted Saturday morning with cow manure smells. She said, Wow, sounds really uh great. I replied Yeah, we were right next to the Nuclear Power Plant, Palo Verde, too. She said, Geez, you guys really know how to have fun, it doesn t get any better than that! I said Yes we really do know how to have FUN, and it was a blast (). We even got to hear a presentation about the plant and have our picture taken. As usual, the food at the rally was really great and the company even better. Thanks everyone. At our October meeting, we had a short presentation by Josh Deards, the Service Manager from State Trailer in Peoria. He packed the house with folks who had burning questions. If you didn t get your question answered at the October meeting, Josh will be back to give another Q&A in the new year. February seems to be a good time to start preparing for the coming summer travels so his primary focus will be Tires and Prep for Travel. We ll have an abbreviated meeting so we can spend more time with Josh. Trish Schwab Membership We had such a wonderful turnout at our first meeting for the season in October. An alltime record of 100 people with 92 members and 8 guests. It was fun to see everyone reestablishing old friendships and making new ones. We have 14 new members: Larry and Ann Apple, Mark and Catherine Engel, Craig and Chris Gaare, Ray and Suzy Mitchell, Jim and Mary Winterstein, Linda and Mike Dailey, and Craig and Maryl Weady. Welcome. We now have a total of 163 members. 5 Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta We had 7 rigs and 14 members attend the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta October 5-9. We stopped the first night in Gallop, New Mexico to break up the long ride to Albuquerque. The mass ascensions of hundreds of balloons each day was nothing short of spectacular. Thousands of RVs are parked in the area. When we weren't watching balloons, we visited some local restaurants in the area. Towards the end of our stay it rained and rain was forecasted for several days. We decided to leave a day early and stopped in Flagstaff for the night on Saturday, arriving home on Sunday. Timm and Lynn Burke, Wagon Masters Welcome Back Rally On October 20-22, 27 rigs and 54 members attended the Welcome Back Rally in Tonopah, AZ. The short 50 miles to Saddle Mountain RV Park made for an easy drive. We enjoyed a catered BBQ dinner from Dillon's consisting of pulled pork, pulled chicken, beef brisket, Cole slaw, potato salad and baked beans. The second night we had a delicious pot luck. Both days the temperatures were in the upper 90s. It was too hot for outdoor activities but there was a large clubhouse we had full access to. Corn Hole and card games were enjoyed in the cool A/C of the clubhouse along with our dinners. On Friday over half the participants visited the Palo Verde Nuclear Education Center in Buckeye for an informative narrated tour. The Welcome Back Rally is a good way to renew old friendships and get to know new members. Laurie and John Stewart, Wagon Masters November 2016 Grand RVers Page 5

6 Ray Granzow Trip Director Mike Schwab Trip Director Sam and Sandy Pacione are going to be wagon masters for a new rally to Rocky Point, Mexico. The dates of the rally are April 3-8. Sam and Sandy are going to the RV park over Thanksgiving and will be making reservations for 10 spots. That is the reason your deposit and trip application must be submitted by Nov 16. If anyone has ideas for future rallies, contact Mike or Ray UPCOMING RALLIES CHULA VISTA RV RESORT SAN DIEGO, CA DATE: NOV 2-9, 2016 WAGON MASTER: MIKE & TRISH SCHWAB ASSISTANT WAGON MASTER: PAT & RAY GRANZOW We have 22 sites reserved for 7 nights. There is so much to see and do in San Diego, the "Birthplace of California". Points of interests such as Seaport Village, Sea World, World Famous San Diego Zoo, Balboa Park, Old Town, Coronado Island, and by all means the USS Midway Museum. The RV Park has a great pool and hot tub. Right outside the gate is a nice walking path along the marina and bay. We are planning a pizza party on the night of our arrival and at least one "share an appetizer" night. There is a $1 pet charge per day which is a reduction from $3 per day for non-rally participants. This fee is the responsibility of the pet owners. TUCSON LAZY DAYS KOA RV PARK SUGGESTED DATE: FEB 6-10, 2017 WAGON MASTER NEEDED Tucson is always a fun place to visit. There are great restaurants, the San Xavier mission, the DeGrazia Gallery, Biosphere 2, and the Pima Air and Space Museum to visit. Within an hour or two drive are artsy Tubac, Tumacacori National Park, Tombstone, Kartchner Caverns and the Chiricahau Mountains. The yet to be determined Wagon Master will confirm the dates. November 2016 Grand RVers Page 6

7 COTTONWOOD -- JEROME VERDE VALLEY RV THOUSAND TRAILS SUGGESTED DATE: FEB 21-24, 2017 WAGON MASTER NEEDED This RV park is located near Cottonwood. Jerome, Sedona, National Monuments Montezuma's Castle, Tuzigoot, and Montezuma s Well are close by. The Verde Canyon Railroad provides a 4-hour picturesque and relaxing ride. The train departs from the Clarkdale depot. The dates are flexible and the choice of the Wagon Master. CIVIL WAR IN THE SOUTHWEST PICACHO PEAK RV PARK SUGGESTED DATE: MARCH 17-20, 2017 WAGON MASTER NEEDED Each year hundreds of spectators descend on Picacho Peak State Park located half way between Phoenix and Tucson to watch reenactments of an Arizona Civil War skirmish. Visitors come from around the country to watch more than 200 actors with authentic gear reenact the furthest west Civil War battle. BARLEENS SUPERSTITION RV PARK SUGGESTED DATE: MAR 30 - APR 2, 2017 WAGON MASTER NEEDED The Barleens Rally has become an annual favorite. The talented entertainers at Barleens Arizona Opry provide a memorable show of music and fun. But there is more than the Opry: Canyon Lake, Tortilla Flats, Mesa Market Place, Superstition Mountain Museum, and the Goldfield Ghost Town are close by. There are many restaurants in the vicinity. The dates are tentative and will be set by the yet-to-be-determined Wagon Master. The Arizona Opry books quickly so reservations must be made soon. November 2016 Grand RVers Page 7
