Curtis Message from the Chamber Chairman Jon Landers Well, the new Chamber year is here and we are ready to go. We had a great year at the Chamber and many thanks go out to all the volunteers who helped, the Chamber Staff, the Chamber Board, and to Pam Anglin who did a fantastic job as Chairman. One of the areas of emphasis this year will be on Chamber members and ways that we can bring more value to them. So look for more information to come throughout the year. We definitely have a busy year ahead. On top of all the events already scheduled for the year, we just found out that Lamar County was chosen to host a Professional Bull Riders, Inc. Touring Pro Division event in May This event alone will bring in over 2,500 people to our county to stay in our hotels, eat at our restaurants, and make purchases at our stores. This is a win for everyone. Upcoming events to make note of are the Chamber Banquet on October 18th, Festival of Pumpkins on October 22nd, and we kick off the Holiday Shop Local Campaign this month as well. Remember that the Chamber is only as strong as it s members so find out what you can do to make Lamar County better. This Friday night, October 7th, those beautiful antique and classic cars will be cruisin around the Downtown Plaza, and a great time to view the cars and meet and visit with the owners! We have a lot of folks who bring their vehicles from near and far! Friday, November 4th will be the last Car Cruisin until Spring 2012, so make plans to attend this event that has become a monthly favorite! It is Festival of Pumpkins time on October 22nd, and the Chamber will be hosting the 3rd annual Chamber Blue Ribbon Pumpkin Bake Off on Saturday during the Festival! So all you cooks out there dig out that favorite Pumpkin recipe and enter your Masterpiece! You just might be a winner! There will be cash prizes and of course..prize Ribbons! Entries will be accepted from 8am to 10:30am at the new YWCA Downtown Community Center 138 Lamar Ave. There will be three categories Main Dish.Breads and Miscellaneous.Desserts Judging will begin at 11:00am until 2:00pm and the winners will be announced at 3:00pm! More Square Dancers will be headed our way October 14th, 15th, and 16th for the annual Texas Square Dance Convention held at the Fair Grounds. These folks do-sidoe all over the country, and look forward to coming to Paris where they catch up with old friends, and dance the night away! Their other favorite past time is eating in our great restaurants and shopping in our stores! On October 28th and 29th, The 1st annual Paris Antique Fair hosted by Janet Green owner of Two Rivers Antiques will be held at the Fair Grounds. There will be plenty of booths full of Antiques to admire AND purchase! There will be a Vintage Prom on Friday night, and a Vintage Car Exhibit on Saturday. Also, lots of fun for everyone coming to check out this new event that is sure to delight and entertain residents as well as visitors!. November 11th,, David and Sara Norris of Modern Autobody will be our hosts for the 2nd annual fund raiser for Holiday in Paris! There will be beautiful items to bid on as well as great food and fun as we make preparations to add a great new event to Holiday in Paris this year! Cari Johnson will be chairing our first annual White Christmas Snow Princess and Snow Queen Pageant to be held at Love Civic Center on Saturday evening, November 12th at 5:30pm. The girls ages will range from 6 months to 18 years of age. Our winners will be featured at holiday events in November and December. Also on November 12, Paris Junior College will be celebrating Homecoming and honoring our very own Joan Mathis at the Annual Luncheon. Joan serves on our Chamber board, and is so deserving of this honor! In just a few weeks, it will be time to light our Annual Christmas Tree at the Courthouse on Saturday, November 26th at 6:00pm. We will be singing Christmas Carols with the Paris Community Choir led by Pat Fowzer and of course Santa will be there! This will kick off our Holiday in Paris festivities coming up in the first two weekends of December. Be sure to drive by The Bywaters Peristyle and The Sam Bell Maxey House! Two of our treasured gems that are being restored back to their original beauty and preserved for many years to come! These are among the many favorite points of interest when visitors come our way, and we are excited to see the completion very near! We just returned from partnering with Team Texas at the 40th annual Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque, New Mexico where over 800,000 people are expected over a 10 day period, and have over 500 balloons in the air at the same time. Information about our great City was handed out to people from all over the United States and abroad who came by the Texas booth..and our Texanized Eiffel Tower was a hit! Festival Flair is in the air, so plan to join in the fun to make special memories with your family and friends in Paris this Fall!

Day 11: Edinburgh - St. Andrews (B) Today travel to St. Andrews via the Forth Road Bridge from which you can see the Forth Railway Bridge. Located west of Edinburgh is a remarkable cantilever structure which is still regarded as an engineering marvel and is recognized the world over. Continue to St. Andrews, known as the home of golf, and home of Scotland s oldest university. Visit St. Andrew s Castle, the ruins of the castle of the Archbishops of St Andrews, dating in part from the 13th century. Notable features include bottle-dungeon and mine and counter-mine tunneled during the siege that followed the murder of Cardinal Beaton in These siege works are the fi nest of their kind in Europe. A fascinating exhibition in the visitor center brings the history of the castle and cathedral to life. Next, visit St. Andrew s Cathedral, the remains of the largest cathedral in Scotland. The Cathedral Museum houses an outstanding collection of early and later medieval sculpture and other relics found on the site and enjoy splendid views from the top. Return to Edinburgh for an evening at leisure.
