6 NODAL OFFICER S MESSAGE Prof. Nimit Chowdhary It is a pleasure to introduce the latest crop of talent carefully nurtured to meet the expectations of the tourism industry. Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management is the leader in tourism education in South Asia. To meet the expectations of the stakeholders IITTM centre for the NCR was launched in 2007 from IHM Pusa Campus. IITTM centre has since then been serving the industry by supplying necessary trained human power. IITTM attracts youth from all over the country. The applicants are scrutinised on an all India basis before being offered admission to the prestigious PGDM (TL) programme. This unique programme that focuses on tourism as a leisure activity, prepares learners to take up responsibilities in tourism and related companies especially those in to tourism operations, adventure and MICE markets. Activity based learning is the mantra at IITTM Noida. Institute makes use of every possible opportunity to allow its students exposure to real time situations. Trends like mobile applications and social media have taken the travel world by storm, thereby, influencing the travelers to act considerably more independently. Apart from the rapid technological advancements, the world is also witnessing a big socio-cultural, political and economic upheaval. Recession is slowly eating the economies, economic growths have slowed down considerably and the Rupee has lost the sheen. As is with all industries, tourism industry is also greatly impacted. In such challenging environment, we proudly introduce our sixth batch of Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Tourism & Leisure) for induction into the industry. 9 Why IITTM? Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management (IITTM), an autonomous organization of the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, is one of the premier institutes in the country offering education, training, research and consultancy in sustainable management of tourism, travel and other allied sectors. The stakeholders realization that the country is in need of such professionals who can provide an excellent standard of products and services, resulted in the creation of IITTM in 1983 at New Delhi. It is devoted to the pursuit of higher knowledge in tourism and its dissemination to a diverse audience. Over the years, Institute has established a distinguished identity of its own and reached at a commanding position among sectoral B-Schools in the country. With its focus in meeting the changing needs of the tourism industry, it has played a pioneering role in the propagation and professionalization of tourism education. The management of the Institute is entrusted in the hands of the Board of Governors having the Union Minister for Tourism as its Chairperson.

Therefore, to meet the requirements of the travel trade, another initiative was taken by Ministry of Tourism to establish another wing of IITTM in the Nation capital region. IITTM, Noida center was established in 2007 at Pusa, Delhi and now is running from an sprawling campus at NOIDA. At IITTM, NOIDA we offer programme in Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Tourism and Leisure) which is of two year duration and is approved by AICTE. 15 International Collaborations Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management has played a key role in the development of tourism education in Asia and the Pacific Region. It has also played an important role in setting up the network of Asia Pacific Education and Training Institutes in Tourism (APETIT), promoted by United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP). IITTM has utilized this platform in a big way to encourage, develop and facilitate join activities in the field of common interest mainly through exchange of faculty and students amongst member institutions. The Institute is an association member of United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) since the early days of its inception. IITTM is in process to tie-up with a few foreign universities for exchange of faculty and students to promote a holistic approach and research culture within the campus premises. Distinguished academicians and eminent scholars from foreign universities have been visiting the institute to participate in workshops, seminars and other events regularly.

16 PGDM (Tourism & Leisure) The Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Tourism & Leisure) is a two year full time AICTE approved programme. IITTM, New Delhi (now NOIDA) Campus is the pioneer Institute in the country to provide Post Graduate program in Tourism and Leisure to cater to the needs of leisure market in Tourism and Leisure Sector. The program is systematically divided into four semesters. Out of the 2 years, around 8 months are allotted to the Industry exposure and practical experience so that by the completion of the course the students are well versed with the practical intricacies of the Industry. The course structure has been designed in consultation with various experts from the industry.
