2 Sunday, March 22, :00pm 5:00pm 8:00am 2:45pm 3:00pm 5:00pm Registration British/Columbia Foyer Canadian Caucus Meeting Garibaldi Environmental Affairs Steering Group Meeting Waddington Members of the Environmental Affairs Committee are welcome to attend the Steering Group meeting as observers. Monday, March 23, :00pm 8:30am 8:30am 8:45am 8:45am- 9:30am Registration British/Columbia Foyer Continental Breakfast Columbia Chairs Welcome Waddington ACI-NA Environmental Affairs Full Committee Chair Lyne Michaud and U.S. Caucus Chair Bryan Wagoner will welcome attendees to Vancouver. Lyne Michaud, Montreal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport, Full Committee Chair Bryan Wagoner, Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, U.S. Caucus Chair Innovative Waste Management Strategies at PDX Waddington Waste minimization and diversion are common goals amongst ACI-NA members, and many airports strive to continually increase their recycling and minimization rates. But at some point challenges can outweigh the benefits and progress stalls but does it have to? Portland International Airport has developed an innovative partnership with a local university and airport tenants to encourage composting of organic waste and to donate left over food from their tenants. As a result PDX has achieved a composting rate of tons per month and donated thousands of fresh, healthy meals to a local charity, and they continue to improve upon their performance! Come learn about this exciting program and take some of PDX s lessons learned back to your airport! Phil Ralston, General Manager Environmental Operations, Port of Portland Stan Jones, Land Quality Manager, Port of Portland (U.S. Caucus and Canadian Caucus meeting separately) 2 (16 MAR 15)
3 9:30am 10:30am 10:30am 10:45am 10:45am 11:45am 11:45pm 1:00pm New Tool for Airports to Balance Stormwater and Wildlife Hazards ACRP Report 125 Waddington ACRP Report 125, Balancing Airport Stormwater and Bird Hazard Management and the accompanying Bird Strike Risk Analysis and Stormwater Management Decision Tool has recently been published and provide guidance to airports as they seek to identify and evaluate stormwater management practices and their impacts on bird mitigation practices. Together these resources will help facilitate communication and cooperation within an airport s organization and externally with regulators as airports develop the best solution for their individual stormwater and wildlife hazard management needs. Come learn about this exciting new resource from the study authors! Kevin Gurchak, Manager, Environmental Compliance, Alleghany County Airport Authority Kim Allerton, President, Environmental Resource Solutions, Inc. John Lengel, Executive Vice President, Gresham, Smith and Partners (U.S. Caucus and Canadian Caucus meeting separately) Morning Networking Break Waddington Reporting Tool Upgrades: Global Reporting Initiative Airport Operators Sector Supplement and ISO Waddington The panel will discuss the 2013 revisions to the GRI questionnaire and the 2015 revisions to ISO The GRI-G4 reporting principles emphasize the importance of identifying stakeholders, determining the materiality of sustainability indicators reported, and presenting information in a fair and balanced way. The ISO 14001:2015 standard improves upon the previous edition by requiring organizations to determine external and internal issues that are relevant to its purpose, understanding the needs and expectations of interested parties, and more directly linking the environmental management system to the environmental performance of the organization. The revised standard also explicitly references risks associated with threats and opportunities that organizations need to address.
