FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski has said that the effort is expected to increase Wi-Fi speeds by at least 35 percent. Collaborative Decision Making (CDM) is a joint government/industry initiative aimed at improving air traffic flow management through increased information exchange among aviation community stakeholders. Surface CDM, or S-CDM" facilitates the exchange of data between the airport, operators (includes airlines, business and general aviation) and air traffic management system. Although CDM is applicable to all phases of flight, the S-CDM concept is dedicated to surface management. It is a process that enables the Airport and Stakeholders the ability to make operational decisions collaboratively, thus improving surface traffic management, reducing delays on movement and non-movement areas, and enhancing safety, efficiency and situational awareness. This session explores the history of S-CDM, its goals and objectives, and it's progress to date. The outcome of this session is to enhance awareness of the potential behind S-CDM and to begin an on-going dialogue, as the FAA continues to push for nationwide adoption.
