2 Redland City Ideally located south-east of Brisbane, Queensland s capital city and north of the Gold Coast, the 2018 Commonwealth Games host city, the Redlands is one of the best places to stay, play and train. The Redlands has it all villages, islands, rainforest, rural hinterland, farmland, beaches, bays, creeks and freshwater lakes as well as iconic Australian flora and fauna. The area boasts a host of attractions including waterfront parks, galleries, shopping centres and boutiques, cafes, restaurants and much more. The Redlands is a visual delight with its natural paintbox of rich red soil that inspires its name and lush, green spaces that contrast against the blue waters of Moreton Bay. With idyllic warm weather, it s a place where you instantly become energised as you breathe in the fresh bay breeze and enjoy the fragrance of nature in the air. There s plenty to do on land and sea. Explore tracks and trails that meander through the natural bushland and rainforest of our extensive conservation parks you might even spot a wallaby or koala in their natural habitat. 3 Yura! Welcome to Quandamooka Country The area we now know as Redlands has sustained Aboriginal Traditional Owners for tens of thousands of years. Known together as the Quandamooka People, the Noonuccal, Nughie and Gorepul tribes have been custodians of this land since time immemorial, with archaeological evidence of their connection to this area dating back more than 21,000 years. Noonuccal, Nughie and Gorenpul descendants continue to live on Country and practice traditional ceremony, lore and customs, sharing their knowledge with visitors. Join them to witness traditional dancing, view ancient artifacts and middens or listen to dreaming stories telling of the creation of this area. You will be amazed by the Quandamooka People s unique partnerships with animals that they have shared the natural environment with for countless generations, such as Kabul the carpet snake, Miriginba the sea eagle and Yalingbila the whale. With Quandamooka community groups offering cultural talks and activities, Redlands is the perfect place to learn about one of the oldest continuing cultures on earth. 3

4 Geography Redland City is ideally located just 35 minutes drive (26 kilometres) from Brisbane, Queensland s capital and 70 minutes drive (60 kilometres) from the Gold Coast. It has easy access to the Port of Brisbane and Brisbane and Coolangatta international and domestic airports. It is an ideal location to cycle, walk, run, swim in open water and play lawn bowls. It is a genuine paradise with a combination of pristine environment, national park areas, charming villages, stunning ocean views and adrenalinepumping adventure on offer.

5 Southern Moreton Bay Islands This network of friendly island communities provide great places for a relaxing break from the usual hustle and bustle of daily life for the day, weekend or an extended stay. The islands are all serviced by same-day vehicle ferries and water taxis, with interisland transfers available. The Southern Moreton Bay Islands are the perfect location for natural environment water-based training sports such as kayaking with easy access to calm protected waters and bowling greens. Coochiemudlo Island A 10-minute ferry ride from Victoria Point, the island has protected waters and shallow beaches. It s only five square kilometres making it easy to explore and get around. With four kilometres of safe beaches it s a great place for training for natural environment water sports. 5

7 By Car Redlands is a 35-minute drive from Brisbane CBD and a 70-minute drive from the Gold Coast. There is direct access to the Redlands via the Pacific Motorway (M1) and the Gateway Motorway (M2). The motorways provide links to Old Cleveland Road, Rickertt Road, Mt Gravatt- Capalaba Road, Beenleigh-Redland Bay Road and Mt Cotton Road. Redlands is 30 minutes from the Brisbane Domestic and Brisbane International airports. Cleveland the gateway to North Stradbroke Island is only 35 minutes from the airports. The Gold Coast (including Coolangatta airport) in the south is about 1 hour 15 minutes away. By Car via the Scenic Route While the motorways offer the most direct access to the Redlands there are a number of other scenic routes from Brisbane and the Gold Coast that you may like to discover. This includes the Southern Moreton Bay Tourist Drive which roams through the scenic hinterland of Mount Cotton, through bayside villages Victoria Point, Cleveland and Wellington Point, and onto the picturesque Brisbane suburbs of Manly and Wynnum. The Southern Moreton Bay Tourist Drive is 78km, making it a perfect day trip of discovery. By Train Trains run frequently from Brisbane Central Station to Cleveland Station. The journey takes about an hour. Visit or By Bus Regular bus services operate within the Redlands and to and from the Brisbane Transit Centre. Daily buses are available from the Gold Coast to the Brisbane Transit Centre. It is advisable to check directly with hire car companies about whether they allow vehicles to travel to North Stradbroke Island. The area has an estimated inventory of more than 400 rooms of 3.5-star standard and above on the mainland and islands. Properties available for your athletes and their support crews range from small, boutique accommodation to mid-size hotels able to accommodate smaller groups. The Redlands offers a large range of restaurants and cafes that can tailor meals to suit individual athletes dietary requirements. 13 Sporting facilities The Redlands has a number of sporting venues suitable for pre-event training that are a short drive from Brisbane or the Gold Coast. The Redlands is the closest location to the world-class Sleeman Sports Complex facility at Chandler and a short drive from the shooting range at Belmont. In particular, these events include triathlons, road cycling, mountain bike races and bowls tournaments. Arts and cultural immersion opportunities are also on offer through the threemonth long Quandamooka Festival Gatorade Tri-Series, Raby Bay February, September and December Beginners to elite event with three options for triathlon distances. Straddie Salute Triathlon Festival May 1000m Ocean Swim, 8km run and walk, sprint Triathlon and off-road triathlon. Bayview Blast May Beginners to Elite event with a 50km and 100km track. This event is part of the National Mountain Bike series. Quandamooka Festival July - September The Quandamooka Festival - celebrating Culture, Country & People - includes a program of up to 55 events and activities.

15 Facilities/Amenities Redlands IndigiScapes Centre includes a visitor information centre, onsite café, function rooms, environmental centre, natural parklands, picnic areas and walking trails. The Redland Performing Arts Centre (RPAC) is the Redland hub to celebrate and participate in the cultural opportunities. RPAC s feature venue is the multi-functional, 550-seat concert hall, and the centre also offers a variety of performance and function venues available for community and commercial use, along with a full range of related professional services including ticketing, technical production, front of house, marketing and catering. Redland Art Gallery s exhibitions and events feature local, Queensland, nationally and internationally recognised artists. The exhibition program is showcased in six exhibition spaces over two locations at Cleveland and Capalaba. Gallery programs extend to island and mainland locations. The gallery s policy is to support and encourage access, diversity and opportunity; to create a deeper sense of identity and place; and to acknowledge the region s significant Indigenous culture and heritage. 15
