5 PREFACE First of all, the writer would like to perform gratitude to Allah SWT for the mercy that has given to the writer. Therefore, the writer could finish the final report. The writer also would like to express the warm east gratitude to the noble prophet Muhammad SAW, for warning and remembering every kindness or fault occurred. Eventually, this report is written as one of the requirements to finish Diploma III at English Department, which entitled Designing a Booklet of The Portrait of People s Life in the Banks of Musi River. This final report describes about how to make a booklet. The writer considers that in writing this final report still has many insufficiencies and it is far from perfect. It was caused by the limitation of experience, ability and knowledge that the writer has. Therefore, the writer expects the readers can give suggestion and critics for this final report. 8 ABSTRACT DESIGNING A BOOKLET OF THE PORTRAIT OF PEOPLE S LIFE IN THE BANKS OF MUSI RIVER (Merlinda Sari, 46 Pages, 19 Figures, 3 tables) This research is focused on how to design a booklet of The Portrait of People s Life in The Banks of Musi River written in both English and Indonesian languages. The research and development (R&D) method modified by Sukmadinata (2005) was used in this study. The method consist of preliminary study, product development, and testing. In designing the booklet, knowledge about people s life in banks of Musi River, English and Indonesiam writing skills, and graphic design knowledge and skil were really needed. In developing the booklet draft, the criticsm and suggestions provided by experts were very valuable.
