2 Upcoming Events Downtown TTC Streetcar Tour, Wednesday, June 16, :15 p.m. On Wednesday, June 16, 2010, the Toronto Section will be hosting an evening downtown streetcar tour with the tour taking place on one of TTC's historic PCC cars. TTC historian Scott Haskill will be leading the tour and Tim Lawson will add some background about transit signal priority in the City. The tour starts and ends at Richmond Street and York Street, at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel and will travel along the attached route. We will meet and then board together from a downtown location at 7:15 p.m. For those who are able to gather ahead of time, we ll be meeting for dinner somewhere nearby (at your own cost). The tour costs are being covered by the section, but admission donations will be collected for the Dr. Michel Van Aerde Memorial Transportation Scholarship a minimum of $5 for members and students and a minimum of $10 for non members. Space is limited, so please reserve your seat with our Activities, Angela Gibson (angela.gibson@york.ca) or extension If you reserve a space on the tour and don t come, you ll be charged $10 to be directed to the CITE scholarship fund. Past Events and News ITE Toronto Section / Hamilton / Southwest Ontario Sections Spring Luncheon and Transportation Sustainability Seminar, Wednesday, April 21, 2010 A joint Toronto, Hamilton and Southwest Section Spring Luncheon/Seminar was held on April 21, 2010, at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel on Airport Road in Mississauga on the topic of Transportation Sustainability. The event was also an opportunity for ITE members to personally meet the ITE International Vice President candidates: Troy Peoples, Ray Davis, and Rock Miller. The seminar provided insight into the existing and future TDM measures being implemented at York University, the planning and rationale used in determining the Long Term Transit Strategy in Durham Region, and the bold plans for redevelopment in Uptown Waterloo. On behalf of the Toronto Section, we would like to express our appreciation to Nicole Arsenault of York University, Phil Meagher of Durham Region, and Rob Trotter of the City of Waterloo for presenting. In Memoriam of Bryan Haigh by Julia Salvini On May 8, 2010, our ITE community lost a valued member with the sudden passing of Bryan Haigh of Read Voorhees and Associates. I had the pleasure of working with Bryan on a number of projects over the past fifteen years. He was a great colleague, a creative problem solver, and a thorough and patient teacher. Bryan loved working in the transportation field you could hear it in his voice and see it in his face as he spoke enthusiastically about his work. He will be deeply missed. Bryan`s family have set up a memorial website where you can sign an online guestbook or share your memories. memorial/obituary.aspx?n=bryan Haigh&lc=3780&mid= & 2...
