Deputy Director Tourism (Publicity) Peerzada Zahoor who was representing the J&K State received the award. During the Travel Mart, J&K stall which was beautifully decorated attracted huge visitors mostly locals and travel agents. Over the past three years, the Department of Tourism has been trying to tap the South Indian market. Many travel agents from the J&K State also participated in the Travel Mart who informed the visitors about the tourism potential of the state. They also made on spot booking for autumn season this year. The Department of Tourism displayed pictures of different tourist resorts at their stalls besides distributing publicity material of the state s tourism products. The visitors expressed willingness to visit Kashmir in autumn and also next year after being convinced about the security arrangements put in place by the state government. Director Tourism Kashmir, Mahmood A Shah said the department is trying to tap the South Indian tourist market who are very keen to visit J&K. South India is a good market for Kashmir. J&K also received Best Adventure Tourism Destination and Eco-Tourism Destination awards during the award night held on Sunday. Deputy Director Tourism (Publicity) Peerzada Zahoor who was representing the J&K State received the award. During the travel mart, J&K stall which was beautifully decorated attracted huge visitors mostly locals and travel agents who expressed willingness to promote Kashmir among travellers. Over the past three years, the department of tourism has been trying to tap the south Indian market and participated in the travel marts held in this region. The visitors at the J&K stall mostly made inquiries about situation in Kashmir after the attack on Amarnath yatra who were informed about safety measures taken by the state government. Many travel agents from the J&K state also participated in the travel mart who also informed the visitors about the tourism potential of the state. They also made on spot booking for autumn season this year and also for next year. We got good huge response in this international travel mart. Many travel agents made on spot bookings also after they were convinced about the safety measures taken by the state government for the tourists in Kashmir, said Peerzada Zahoor. Most of the Indian states, union territories besides tourism boards, hoteliers, airlines, tour operators, online travel companies from the country and other countries participate in travel trade shows making it the largest networking platform for the travel industry.
