Required by International Law Monitored and Enforced by governing Regulatory Authority Criminal and Civil penalties for failure & non-compliance Contractual Obligations in Aircraft Lease Contracts More stringent conditions of compliance and accurate record keeping Leasing Companies will anddofind any excuse to refuse aircraft redelivery: Inaccurate technical records Failure to meet return conditions Failure to provide ongoing reliability reports for components, regardless of adherence to maintenance requirements

4 Current Industry Situation Regulations and Regulators ever more stringent Lessors demanding more and more in terms of historical records. The industry is moving forward Are operators and systems keeping pace?

Excel spreadsheets and Access databases Error prone Maintenance overruns High level of risk Little/no visibility of maintenance status, or continuing airworthiness Key person dependent MRO-derived Systems Cumbersome and complex to use Far more functionality than a small/medium fleet operator needs Work arounds Require skilled operators Very data hungry Expensive Long-term contracts

Some Examples of Regulatory Non-Compliance American Airlines $24.2m Pinnacle $417,000 Alaska Airlines $590,000 Pinnacle $275,000 (these were just the fines and take no account of the additional costs of legal fees and flight cancellations) What About Aircraft Returns off Lease? Lessors will find ANY excuse to refuse redelivery Up to $10m in extreme cases, around $1m per aircraft is the norm Extended lease payments Charges for replacement parts Repeat work due to missing documentation Additional work due to inadequate reliability monitoring In 2011 MAS provisioned $196m for aircraft redeliveries They knew it was coming!

7 What do Operators Want?
