2 At Asilia, one of our key goals is to have a positive impact on Africa s wild places, translating as benefi ts to the environment and local people alike. Asilia s track record demonstrates that it improves the prospects of the wilderness areas in which it operates. For example, we opened up the northern Serengeti region to tourism over a decade ago, being the fi rst operator there and bringing in a regular scheduled fl ight. The area is now one of the most successful areas in the Serengeti ecosystem, providing local employment and protection from poachers. Other examples include the Masai Mara Community Conservancies, Rubondo Island, Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Ruaha National Park. In 2015 Asilia implemented a US$5 per person per night responsible tourism levy as a means to expand our conservation and development efforts in the areas we are committed to. In the 2015/16 fi nancial year the amount collected is US$45K over and above the normal donations we receive. For 2016/17 we expect to triple this amount. 95 of management is female 35 >50 of overall staff are continental 0 citizensizens of camp staff from local communities 30 of overall staff from local communities children through Twende Porini programme scholarships for local youth ANNUAL REPORT AFRICANSPIRIT GROUP LIMITED 26
3 POSITIVE IMPACT HIGHLIGHTS 2015/16 Despite 2015/16 being a commercially challenging year, we contributed USD 7.0mn (14/15 USD 6.9mn) to the national parks, wilderness areas and national economies in East Africa. Through the donation platform via our charitable organisations in the USA (501-c3) and the UK, as well as direct donations via Asilia, we raised US$[164,500] for various Positive Impact projects: US$ 45,500 raised via the introduced responsible tourism levy US$ 50,000 for Conservation and education projects via guest donations, US$ 71,000 Direct donations of Asilia for Twende Porini, chimpanzee habituation project Rubondo Island (managed by Honeyguide Foundation) and other smaller local projects The AsiliaGiving platform of charitable entities in the US (501-c3 registered) and the UK (registered as a charitable Company via paragraph 1 of Schedule 6 of the Finance Act 2010) is organized and operated exclusively for educational, conservation and community empowerment projects in areas where Asilia has a presence. The scope of the portfolio of projects that we support includes the following: The advancement of community development; The advancement of environmental protection, wildlife and crucial habitat conservation and/or improvement; The advancement of community health and/or the saving of lives; The advancement of education; and The advancement of outreach and communication to promote and increased appreciation and value of biodiversity and nature; ANNUAL REPORT AFRICANSPIRIT GROUP LIMITED 27
4 TWENDE PORINI In November the inaugural Twende Porini ( Lets go to the bush ) took place at Sayari Camp. Over the course of six weeks 90 children from adjacent communities attended a series of fi ve day camps. They learnt about the environment, wildlife, tourism and equally, had a lot of fun! WILDAID PARTNERSHIP We partnered with WildAid in the Poaching steals from us all campaign, distributing posters to schools and local government offi ces in Tanzania. The campaign was well received and is being extended with TANAPA as a partner. SCHOLARSHIPS 10 children, one from each community where we operate, were awarded a one year scholarship to the Sila Vocational Training College where they completed tourism management courses. Upon graduation in May, they were offered internships at our camps and a some of them have already earned a permanent contract with Asilia. ANNUAL REPORT AFRICANSPIRIT GROUP LIMITED 28

7 DELIVERING POSITIVE IMPACT Increased our solar footprint - 8 out of 18 camps run in a hybrid set up - solar water boilers for all guest tents. These investments have reduced our carbon emissions and other risks associated with transporting and handling fuel and have a signifi cant potential of reducing cost. Waste management separation of plastics, glass, metal, paper and organic waste. Carbon offset through Carbon Tanzania. Asilia is one of the two largest contributors to this initiative. Environmental Management system has been set up and is currently being implemented in the operations. 10 EXTERNAL RECOGNITION & AUDITING Our strong positive impact performance continued to gain recognition from third parties both within and outside of our own industry. External audits and outside recognition provide a degree of success of our efforts on the positive impact front, as well as more generally a degree of validation of our vision and approach. The table below provides an overview of the main awards we received in the last two years. AWARD COMMENTS Naboisho Conservancy won Ecotourism Kenya s Ecowarrior Award in 2015 and went on to win the African Responsible Tourism Award in April It was also a joint winner in the Wildlife Conservation category. Asilia is well recognized for its role in co-founding the conservancy and its continued management. In August 2012, we were the fi rst sustainable safari/lodge company in Africa to receive a 5-star rating for sustainability from GIIRS, and we continue to be one of the few East-African companies to be rated by GIIRS. The GIIRS 5 star rating was reconfi rmed in July 2016 whereby Asilia reached the platinum level. WINNER Tourism for Tomorrow Business Awards st out of three fi nalists nominated in the Leading Business category Arguably the highest accolade in the global Travel and Tourism industry in recognition of Asilia s position as a leader in pioneering responsible tourism. Ranked above global brands Tui Travel and Cathay Pacifi c in the prestigious World Travel and Tourism Council s Tourism for Tomorrow Business Award, which recognises tourism businesses that successfully integrate best sustainable tourism practices into their planning and operations. Asilia Africa was the only Africa based winner across the award s six categories. Asilia became the fi rst company in Tanzania to be recognized by Fair Trade Tourism (FTT). In partnership with Responsible Tourism Tanzania (RTTZ), this mutual recognition agreement is part of a greater effort to raise awareness of the critical role sustainable, responsible tourism plays in the continent s unfolding tourism landscape. Eight of our camps: Sayari, Oliver s, Little Oliver s, Namiri, Dunia, Olakira, Ubuntu and Kimondo qualifi ed at RTTZ s Tree Level which means they are recognized by FTT as well. Rekero and Naboisho successfully completed their Eco Tourism assessments in 2015 and were awarded the Silver Eco-Certifi cation level. ANNUAL REPORT AFRICANSPIRIT GROUP LIMITED 34
