3 2 1. Introduction: People from African descent have always had the desire to visit and learn about the diversity of African culture, history, language and cuisine. Others want to visit Africa s exotic coasts, enjoy the tropical climate and experience the adventures of unknown territories. It is important that young people and students of all ages who have mixed information visit the continent of Africa to gain their own perspective. Africa is the world s second largest and second most populated continent according to the 2013 World Population Data from Population Reference Bureau. With its diversity in culture, continent of Africa hosts large and diverse ethnicities, languages and cuisines. It has been a playground for European colonials (which resulted in the slave trade) and today consists of 54 different countries and continues t0 share various European languages. The climate of Africa ranges from tropical to subarctic on its highest peak. It consists of deserts, savanna plain, arid and dense forest. Its fauna is rich with the largest combination of wild animal populations from lions, cheetahs, buffalos, elephants, zebras, gazelles, crocodiles and snakes to name a few. Africa is also rich in culinary adventure with a vast variety of cuisine and aromatic spices from various parts of the continent. Today, Africa s economy is booming with international visitors from different parts of the world making it easier for foreigners and people of the African diaspora to experience and learn more about its culture. Now is the time to learn and experience her rich history and culture G l o b a l K e n t e T o u r P a g e 2 24

5 4 2. Project Description Even though the media will often portray Africa in dire conditions (wars, criminality, diseases) there is still a thirst for discovering and learning about diverse cultures which also entice adventurers to unknown territories and the discovery of a great paradise. Over 2000 languages are spoken throughout Africa with leads to diverse cultures, history and cuisines. The continent creates a curiosity for adventure and unique experiences. For many people of African descent who have travelled throughout Africa, Europe, America and Asia, they understand the economic possibilities on the continent. Others seek an understanding of their home continent, or have no idea where their home is. For younger students, they dream of learning more about Africa, its history, culture, languages and cuisines. The challenge has been there was no organization dedicated primarily to providing a channel for these opportunities to travel, learn and experience Africa in their own leisurely way. Due to limited resources and to facilitate the task ahead, Jah Kente International, and Global Learning Initiatives have entered into a partnership to provide opportunities for people to travel, become educated and to experience African s way of life, culture, history, music and cuisine. Together they have focused on increasing the number of people interested in and exposed to African culture. The Global Kente Tour plans to be a solution for people throughout the diaspora and others who are interested to travel freely, become educated and discover various parts of Africa. This tour aims to provide a trustworthy platform and opportunity to discover Africa G l o b a l K e n t e T o u r P a g e 4 24
