2 PAGE 2 Introduction East of Cape Town, the beautiful 200 kilometre stretch of coastline known as the Garden Route is justifiably famous. Here, mountains crowd close to a shoreline that features golden beaches, pretty towns and several national parks. This excellent easy adventure holiday starts with a couple of game drives at the Addo Elephant Reserve. We walk on forest and coastal trails at Tsitsikamma and Knysna, before crossing the Outiniqua Pass into the Little Karoo, where we see the amazing Cango Caves. An early start takes us to watch a habituated wild family of Meerkats near Oudtshoorn before heading west to Hermanus, a great place to spend a free day with optional activities such as whale watching. An afternoon of wine tasting in the Stellenbosch winelands is next up, as we make our way towards Cape Town. We bring this inspirational wildlife and discovery holiday to a close with the hike to the top of Table Mountain and a day's exploration of the Cape Peninsula, with the chance to see the penguin colony at Boulders Beach and to stand at the Cape of Good Hope. Is this holiday for you? This exciting holiday in South Africa and has a focus on the fascinating African wildlife whilst enjoy some gentle coastal walks, and wine tasting. It s the perfect combination really! We have 3 walks within the itinerary which are 3-4hrs long. There are other optional walks during the two free afternoons and the day in Hermanus. We have 2 game safari s at the Addo Elephant Park in the vehicle to look and view these amazingly gentile animals. Each game drive is around 3hrs and you will find the time passes very quickly. There are 6 days where we travel from one place to the next, most of these days are 3-4 hrs driving, but there is one day of 7 hrs (Oudtshoorn to Hermanus) and one shorter day of 1-2hrs. We have plenty of opportunity to stretch our legs during the holiday and join in on activities such as kayaking, whale watching, saying hello to the penguins and wine tasting in Stellenbosch it s going to be a great adventure. Holiday Itinerary Day 1: Meet at Port Elizabeth Airport. Transfer to accommodation at Addo Elephant National Park. Arriving at Port Elizabeth airport, KE Land Only package services begin with a group transfer (2 hours) to our accommodation near the Addo Elephant National Park. We check into cabins located on the Sunday's River and after settling in we have a tour briefing from our guide. The rest of the afternoon is free for optional activities including a game drive. The optional game drive is in the Schotia private game reserve, you have dinner in the bush and a night drive as well (4hrs). Dinner at cabins (or game drive if you choose this option). Overnight cabins near Addo Elephant Park. CHALET MEALS LD Day 2: Day of game drives in Addo Elephant National Park, South Africa s third largest park. At the beginning of the 20th century a man called Major Pretorious was commissioned to get rid of the menace elephants which were destroying the crops in the area. Addo Elephant National Park was created in 1931 when there were only 16 elephants left in the region and these were only alive because two landowners allowed them to roam on their land. Now it is the 3rd largest national park in South Africa covering a huge 1800 sq km, with plans for expansion to the sea, and it supports over 550 elephants as well as lions, buffalo, black rhino, spotted hyena, leopard and a variety of antelope and zebra. We set out from our cabins for an early morning 3hrs game drive in the park. From the vehicle you will see the famous Elephants now thriving in this biodiverse landscape of lush

3 PAGE 3 shrub lands, mountains and rivers. We may also be able to spot on the ground the Addo flightless dung beetle rolling and recycling the waste matter! We relax and have some lunch watching the waterhole a great place for congregating wildlife coming for a drink, and can walk to the swimming pool at the park entrance for a dip if we like. In the afternoon we have a second 3 hrs game drive to ensure that we have time to find all the species we want to! There is an option (payable locally) to go horse-riding in the afternoon instead of the game drive. Horseriders for the afternoon session need to have some experience, there is also an option to horse-ride in the morning for the less experienced and again you will miss the game drive. We return to our cabins on the banks of Sunday s River. CHALET MEALS BLD Day 3: Drive to Tsitsikamma National Park. Guided forest walk and optional activities. We depart the Addo area early this morning and make our way south-east to the coast and the start of the Garden route section of our trip. We have a 4 hour journey to Storms River mouth. Leaving in the early morning we drive for 4 hours to Storms River in the Tsitsikamma National Park. This area is now part of the Garden Route National Park established in It covers the coastline and several valleys and forest in land. On arrival we have an easy stroll along the western side of the river mouth, past the Strandloper cave to the suspension bridge crossing the river mouth with the white waters crashing on the rocks below as we cross these bridges and enjoy the spectacle. With views out to the ocean and lush green valleys and ravines inland it is truly a great site. Depending on how we feel we can continue to a look out point on the other side of the river a short but steep ascent from the bridges for more views. We then return to the vehicle and check in to our chalets situated with views of the ocean. After lunch we have the afternoon free to enjoy an activity of your choice (all optional extras). The village of Storms river is known for it s adventurous and adrenalin activities and we recommend the Tsitsikamma Canopy tour, a zip wire course which takes you speeding from one giant Outeniqua Yellowwood tree to another. An awesome experience with 10 platforms and 10 zip wire slides, one being 100m long. Of course if heights is not your thing then there are plenty of short walks to choose from in the area as well. We return to our chalets for dinner and overnight. CHALET MEALS BLD Day 4: Morning walk on the Otter Trail. Drive to Knysa for afternoon walk. An early start to enjoy the best of the day we have breakfast at our chalets and then leave for a morning walk on the Otter Trail. This is one of the most acclaimed hikes in South Africa, taking in some beautiful sections of this coastline and in its entirety you can walk for 5 days along the trail weaving in and out of the bays and valleys. It is named after the African Clawless Otter the trail takes us from our accommodation down along the shoreline. Sections of the trail involve some boulder hopping and fun scrambling over rocks. We arrive at the large Guano cave before continuing onto a majestic waterfall. After having explored the waterfall and had a rest we return to Storms River. Approx 3hrs walking. Now we depart in our vehicle to Knysna. Shortly after leaving Storms River we come to the famous bungee jump at the Bloukrans River Bridge. This is the world s highest bridge bungee at 216m. If we wish to take part then it is possible, payable locally, please inform your guide the previous day if you wish to jump. We continue onto Knysna (approx 3hrs driving in total) stopping for lunch along the way. Once in Knysna we stretch our legs with a short walk out to Knysna Heads with some breathtaking views of the lagoon and the ocean. We may also be able to enjoy a sundowner whilst watching the ever changing colours of the horizon as the sun sets over the ocean. We overnight at a very pleasant guesthouse with views over Knysna Lagoon. The small town of Knysna is a great stop for us with lots of little shops, cafes, restaurants, and seafood taverns on the waterfront. There are plenty of options for dinner on this evening.

4 PAGE 4 GUESTHOUSE MEALS BL Day 5: Drive to Little Karoo, visit the famous Cango Caves. Oudtshoorn. After breakfast we depart Knysna and the coastline for a couple of days as we make our way to Oudtshoorn. We drive over the Outeniqua pass with spectacular views to the valleys and ocean we have come from. We then drop steeply down to the Little Karoo valley where the shrubland is very different from the fynbos on the other side. We arrive in Oudtshoorn after around 3 hrs of driving and in time for some lunch. This afternoon we visit the famous Cango Caves, Africa's largest show cave system. The tunnels and chambers extend to around 4km, however only a small section is open to the public. Our tour lasts approximately 1 hr and we will see the splendid dripstone caverns, stalactites, stalagmites, vast halls and towering formations of the limestone as we walk through. Back in daylight we return to Oudtshoorn and check in to our accommodation. There are many restaurants in the town which we can choose from for dinner. GUESTHOUSE MEALS BL Day 6: Meerkat Watching Tour. Transfer to the picturesque coastal town of Hermanus. In the very early morning we join the meerkat tour. These mesmerising little animals are enchanting and we watch them in the wild as they go about their morning business - just a superb experience! We spend 2-3 hours watching and learning about these fascinating creatures. The group that we see are habituated and used to people watching them (but never feeding or handling), however we must still ensure that we are quiet and able to sit calmly in order not to scare them during this period. After freshening up we depart for Hermanus. We drive across Robinson's pass and back down to the coast stopping at Mossel Bay for lunch. Mossel Bay is half-way between Port Elizabeth and Cape Town and is great 60km stretch of sandy beach with 300 days sunshine a year and a mecca for watersports. We visit the famous Post Office Tree, a milkwood tree over 500 years old. In 1500 a sailor left a letter in a shoe at the tree and the Post Office tree was born. After lunch we continue driving to Hermanus arriving in the early evening. There is a selection of restaurants for dinner in this small town. Approx drive time: 7 hours. GUESTHOUSE MEALS BL Day 7: Free day in Hermanus. Optional activities include coastal walks or whale watching. The town of Hermanus is most well known for the best place to whale watch from. The Southern Right whale visits these shores from June through to December, and they can be seen from aboard a boat and even, if you are lucky, the shore. The town even has a man who blows a kelp horn when a whale is spotted - he is the Whale Crier of Hermanus. We have a free day here in Hermanus, and the town is known for its endless adventure options. The nearby Fernkloof Nature Reserve offers a range of lovely walks among the fynbos, the beaches are beautiful for a walk and kayaking in the lagoon is a possibility. On the other end of the scale it is a charming town for wandering around and looking at the little shops and enjoying the café and the restored fishing boats in the old harbour. All options are payable locally. GUESTHOUSE MEALS B Day 8: Drive the whale coastline to Stellenbosch. Afternoon wine farm tour. We leave Hermanus this morning and drive along the 'Whale Coast' and past Gordon's Bay for 2-3hrs before turning inland to the verdant Winelands of the Western Cape. The vineyards stretch to the horizon here over the

5 PAGE 5 mountains of up to 1500m. It is striking scenery, with picturesque villages and has an interesting history. It can feel rather European with much of its architecture being typically Dutch and dating back to the 17th century when the Boers settled and farmed the lands here. We pass by some of the many wine farms in the area, and eat our picnic lunch at one of the wine farms. We arrive in Stellenbosch and have a full afternoon enjoying a cellar tour and wine tasting some of these delicious regional wines. We will depart full of knowledge and possibly some rosy cheeks! Overnight in Stellenbosch. GUESTHOUSE MEALS BLD Day 9: Drive to Cape Town. Day walk to the summit of Table Mountain. After breakfast we drive the 1hr 30mins to our final destination Cape Town. A highlight of the holiday and a must do whilst in this part of South Africa is the walk up Table Mountain. We transfer to the base of the cable car and from here walk up. We take the Platteklip Gorge route. This trail offers spectacular views all the way to the summit with Devil s Peak and Lion s Head on either side. We have panoramic views of Table Bay, Robben Island, Signal Hill and of course Cape Town itself. Normally we can also spy some friendly rock hyrax (dassies) here as well. The walk is 3-4hrs of steady but not difficult ascent. If we have the energy and the weather is good we can extend our walk on the summit along to Maclear s Beacon, the highest point on Table Mountain. We can either walk back down or take the option (not included) to take the revolving cable car back down. Our accommodation is in the city centre and this evening is free to enjoy the ambience and the restaurants on the Waterfront. GUESTHOUSE MEALS BL Day 10: Day tour of Cape Peninsula, including Cape of Good Hope and penguins of Boulder Beach. After breakfast we set off to the Cape of Good Hope and explore the Cape Peninsula. This is a magnificent area which sticks out into the Atlantic and is covered in endemic fynbos and home to picturesque bays, beaches, rolling green hills and valleys has some awe inspiring views with dizzy heights and magnificent panoramas over the ocean. Our first stop is Chapman s Peak along the Chapman s Peak Drive (locally abbreviated to Chappies ) from Noordhoek to Hout Bay which is said to be one of the most spectacular marine drives in the world! The twists and curves in the road seem endless, but it is actually the photo opportunities which are! We continue down to Cape Point Nature Reserve. Here the rugged rocks and sheer cliffs drop from 200m into the sea and is an area of rich and varied flora and fauna including baboon, zebra and 250 species of birds. We walk to the lighthouse, originally built in 1859 to help sailors navigate the treacherous waters. We also walk down to the Cape of Good Hope with nothing but water between here and Antarctica. Returning we drive through the towns of Muizenburg, Fish Hoek and of course Simons town. Here we stop to visit the famous Boulders Beach and spend some time watching the totally fabulous African Penguin colony which thrives here. They are a joy to watch their funny little walk and you can t help but falling a little in love with them! We then return to Cape Town where we have another evening to enjoy the town and dinner. GUESTHOUSE MEALS B Day 11: Free morning for further sightseeing. Afternoon Cape Town Airport transfers provided. The majority of the day is free for shopping and relaxing at the waterfront, or for half-day optional activities such as a visit to Robben Island. In the late afternoon there is a group transfer to Cape Town Airport where KE Land Only package services end.
