PAGE 2 VIEW DATES, PRICES & BOOK YOUR HOLIDAY HERE Introduction Never a dull moment on this family adventure holiday on the South Africa coastline. Starting in the incredible Addo Elephant Park in the East we have 2 game drives seeing these great lumbering creatures before travelling to Plettenberg Bay. Two days here gives us some fabulous options of visiting Monkey Land' and the Raptor rehabilitation centre. Of course we could just relax on the beach! It's then to Oudtshoorn to see the hilarious ostriches, a Meerkat tour, and in Hermanus we can go whale watching. The accommodation throughout the holiday is well presented, most having swimming or dip pools available. We round off with a couple of days in Cape Town and the Cape Peninsula, including a boat tour to seal island and the truly mesmeric penguins at Simon's Town. This holiday is awesome and just superb for families who love wildlife. Explore International. This holiday is part of our Explore International range. Participants on these trips can book through KE or through one of our international partners. This helps us to gather together sufficient numbers of like-minded adventurers to get your holiday up and running quickly. Led by an English-speaking guide, the cosmopolitan nature of these groups can be an important part of the experience! Is this holiday for you? Suitable for children from 8 yrs old This family adventure holiday travels from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town along approximately 500miles of the Garden Route on the coast of South Africa. We travel this distance in manageable sizes, but there are a couple of drives which are 3-5 hrs long and you should be prepared for this. It also includes a number of (exciting!) game drives which are often on rough dirt roads. There is also a high wildlife viewing content, and the holiday is very suitable for animal lovers. On the early morning meerkat tour you will be expected to sit watching these quietly for approx 2 hours - they do not allow children under 10 yrs to take part. The canoeing is suitable for children and beginners. There are many optional activities available. If you wish to take part in any of the water based activities you must be able to swim and children must be supervised by their parent(s) when swimming. All accommodation is of a good quality and chosen for families, many of which have swimming pools. Holiday Itinerary Day 1: Meet at group guesthouse in Port Elizabeth. A single transfer from Port Elizabeth Airport is provided Arriving at Port Elizabeth airport, KE Land Only package services begin with a group transfer to the hotel near the Summerstrand beach in Port Elizabeth. After a briefing with the guide we have the rest of the afternoon free to explore. We can visit the aquarium or relax on the beach. There are many excellent sandy beaches in Port Elizabeth where we can have a dip or paddle and experience our first taste of South Africa. There are several restaurants close to the accommodation so we can have a good meal and an early night. Overnight beach front guesthouse in Port Elizabeth. Swimming: In the sea.

PAGE 3 GUESTHOUSE Day 2: Transfer to Avoca. Optional canoeing or game drive in Schotia private reserve. There is no rush this morning and we have some time for a swim and to enjoy the beach before we check out at 11am. We then transfer for 2hrs to our individual cabin/bungalow accommodation in Avoca. We have lunch and some time to settle in. There is a swimming pool set amongst pleasant gardens at the accommodation and also a play area with swings and a slide. We can spend the afternoon here and maybe take a canoe ride on the Sundays River or we can participate in a game drive (both additional cost). This optional game drive in Schotia private game reserve is a very good option for an open game drive and can include dinner in the bush over an open fire (very exciting!). The reserve was one of the first in the Cape Province to have free roaming lions and it is, almost, guaranteed to see these magnificent animals. If we don t go on the game drive we have dinner at the accommodation. Overnight riverside cabins, Avaco. Swimming: In the sea and at the accommodation pool BUNGALOW MEALS BL Day 3: Two game drives in Addo Elephant Park. We rise first thing for an early morning game drive in Addo Elephant Park. The animals are most active first thing in the morning and later on in the afternoon. This park is now the 3rd largest in South Africa covering about hectares. The original section was set up in 1931 with just 16 elephants that had survived the hunters in the area. The park is a brilliant example of how conservation works as now it is a thriving eco system with over 550 elephants, lions, buffalo, black rhino, spotted hyena, leopard, a variety of antelope and zebra species, as well as the endemic Addo flightless dung beetle. Vehicles are requested not to drive over Elephant dung whilst in the park to preserve these special beetles. We hope to see several elephants here in their natural habitat from the large lone males to the family groups with, hopefully, a few very adorable young! After the morning game drive, before the afternoon game drive we have time to relax by the swimming pool. We have lunch in the picnic/bbq area which is located in viewing of the watering hole, another great place to spot animals. There is also optional horse-riding during this period. In the afternoon we have our second game drive in the park. Both game drives are 3 hours long and are conducted from the closed topped vehicle. If you are particularly interested in having game drives from open topped vehicles then this can be arranged privately for an additional cost. We return to our accommodation for dinner. Swimming: At the accommodation pool BUNGALOW MEALS BLD Day 4: Travel to Tsitsikamma, Storms River, optional tree-top adventure. Transfer to Plettenberg Bay. Leaving the Addo region behind we travel to the coast, down to Storms river mouth in the Tsitsikamma National Park. The transfer takes approx 3 hrs. This area is all part of the Garden Route National Park and the landscape is a montage of seascapes to mountain areas, all renowned for their diverse nature and cultural heritage and resources. At Storms River we walk about 30mins through the indigenous rainforest to the famous suspension bridge crossing the river mouth. From here we get great views of the ocean and crossing the bridge is exciting with the waves crashing and splashing on the rocks directly below us. We return to the restaurant which looks over the Indian Ocean for lunch. After lunch there is a small beach that we can enjoy a safe swim from if we so wish. For those who want some adventure this afternoon and maybe some adrenalin filled couple of hours we can visit the Tsitsikamma Canopy Tour. This optional tree-top adventure involves traversing from one platform to another

PAGE 4 along a steel cable suspended up to 30m above the forest floor. Most platforms are located in the giant Outeniqua Yellowwood Trees and the scenery and bird life is spectacular from here. The professional guides provide interesting facts about the forest ecology during the 2-3 hrs tour. In the late afternoon we transfer to Plettenberg Bay (1hr) for the next 3 nights. Our accommodation here is at simple cabins/bungalows with river views in a full facility campsite. There is a swimming pool here as well as a volleyball court, trampolines, tennis, putt-putt and various other activities. Swimming: In the sea and at the accommodation pool BUNGALOW MEALS BLD Day 5: Free day in Plettenberg Bay. Swimming, chilling, optional canoeing and boat trip. We have a full free day here at Plettenberg Bay. We can enjoy the swimming pool and facilities at our accommodation, maybe some canoeing or a boat trip, or walk down to the blue flag status beach. These beaches are beautiful long sandy beaches with sparkling turquoise waters. For the wildlife enthusiast there are optional visits to the World of Birds (Birds of Eden) where we can see some of the exotic birds of Africa including cranes, flamingos, spoonbills and an assortment of parrots. Many of the birds are hand-reared or have been rehabilitated so do not have a fear of humans, making it easy to get close to them for viewing and some great photos. We can also have the option to visit Monkey Land, the primate sanctuary. One of the aims of the sanctuary is to promote awareness of the plight of the primate and how we can live alongside these magnificent animals. There are various species in these large forested area, and we are sure to be able to see a good few of them on our exploration of the sanctuary. All optional activities are additional cost. Back at our cabins the guide prepares dinner for us at one of the BBQ areas. Any group participation in helping with cooking chores would be most appreciated during these nights. Swimming: In the sea and at the accommodation pool. BUNGALOW MEALS BD Day 6: Further day at Plettenberg Bay. Optional visit to Radical Raptors. Another day is spent in this idyllic spot. Again we can choose to enjoy the beach or walk around town. There are also more wildlife opportunities! We can visit the Radical Raptors birds of prey rehabilitation and awareness centre (additional cost). Here you can meet these massive birds close and personal, as well as watch the flying displays which three time as day. We return to our accommodation for dinner. Swimming: In the sea and at the accommodation pool. BUNGALOW MEALS BD Day 7: Morning canoeing, transfer to Oudtshoorn, and see the ostriches. Overnight Meerkat lodge. We leave the coast today as we travel inland. We drive through Knysna and stop just outside the town of Wilderness. Here we have a morning of canoeing on the Touws River, in the Ebb and Flow National Park. All equipment, including buoyancy aids is provided and we are given a full briefing before entering the boats on the water. We paddle for around an hour at a gentle pace to a spot on the riverbank were we stretch our legs on a board walk to a lovely waterfall, before returning along the same route. This is a beautiful stretch of pristine rainforest and idea for the family. We enjoy lunch on the river banks before transferring (1hr) to Oudtshoorn. On this journey we cross the Outinique pass and descend into the Little Karoo region with some totally different scenery. Oudtshoorn is famous for its ostrich farms. The birds have been bred here since about the 1870 s when the ostrich feathers were in fashion, and those who grew rich on this were aptly called feather barons. Now the

PAGE 5 birds are mainly bred for their meat to sell to the local market. These amusing birds are well looked after at these organic farms and we tour the farm to see what all the fuss is about! There is also a small museum here as well. We then transfer to our nearby guesthouse accommodation. This is a working farm and tomorrow we enjoy our Meerkat experience on their land. LODGE MEALS BL Day 8: Meerkat tour. Transfer to Hermanus. In the very early morning we join the meerkat tour. These mesmerising little animals are enchanting and we watch them in the wild as they go about their morning business just a superb experience! We spend 2-3 hours watching and learning about these fascinating creatures. The group that we see are habituated and used to people watching them (but never feeding or handling), however we must still ensure that we are quiet and able to sit calmly in order not to scare them during this period. Children have to be over 10 yrs to join in meerkat watching. After breakfast and freshened up we hit the road again with a long transfer (5hrs) to Hermanus. Along the way stop at Mossel Bay and the Post Office Tree. Here the sailors used to leave their post under the Milkwood tree on the way around the Cape of Good Hope towards India to be picked up by ships heading in the other direction back to Europe. We arrive in Hermanus in the late afternoon and check-in to our apartment accommodation near the beach. Swimming: In the sea and at the accommodation pool APARTMENT MEALS B Day 9: Free day in Hermanus. Optional whale watching, kayaking, walks, beach, swimming. The town of Hermanus is most well known for the best place to whale watch from. The Southern Right whale visits these shores from June through to December and they can be seen from aboard a boat and, if you are lucky, from the shore. The town even has a man who blows a kelp horn when a whale is spotted he is the Whale Crier of Hermanus. We have a free day here in Hermanus, and the town is known for its endless adventure options. The nearby Fernkloof Nature Reserve offers a range of lovely walks among the fynbos, the beaches are beautiful for a walk as well and kayaking in the lagoon is a possibility. On the other end of the scale it is a charming town for wandering around and looking at the little shops and enjoying the cafe and the restored fishing boats in the old harbour. All options are payable locally. Swimming: In the sea and at the accommodation pool APARTMENT MEALS B Day 10: Transfer to Cape Town. Afternoon in Cape Town, Table Mountain option. After breakfast we continue along the Whale Coast via Gordon s Bay the 3-4hrs to our final destination - Cape Town. We arrive in Cape Town at lunch time and then have the afternoon free. We highly recommend the cable car ride up Table Mountain. From here the views are stunning and an obvious classic landmark. It is well worth the ride. We can stroll around Cape Town and soak up the atmosphere. Our accommodation is in the Seapoint area of Cape Town and has a small swimming pool. Our guide will recommend suitable establishments for dinner. Swimming: In accommodation pool GUESTHOUSE MEALS B

PAGE 6 Day 11: Explore Cape Peninsula. Seal Harbour cruise, Chapmans Peak, Good Hope, Penguins at Simons Town. After breakfast we set off to the Cape of Good Hope and explore the Cape Peninsula. This is a magnificent area which sticks out into the Atlantic and is covered in endemic fynbos and home to picturesque bays, beaches, rolling green hills and valleys has some awe inspiring views with dizzy heights and magnificent panoramas over the ocean. Our first stop is Hout Bay, and we enjoy the Seal Island boat cruise that departs from the harbour here. The cruise is around 40 mins and offers very close up view of the Cape Fur Seals who bask on the rocks here. We then follow Chapman s Peak Drive (locally abbreviated to Chappies ) which is said to be one of the most spectacular marine drives in the world! The twists and curves in the road seem endless, but it is actually the photo opportunities which are! We continue down to Cape Point Nature Reserve. Here the rugged rocks and sheer cliffs drop from 200m into the sea and is an area of rich and varied flora and fauna including baboon, zebra and 250 species of birds. We walk to the lighthouse, originally built in 1859 to help sailors navigate the treacherous waters. We also walk down to the Cape of Good Hope with nothing but water between here and Antarctica. Returning we drive through the towns of Muizenburg, Fish Hoek and of course Simons town. Here we stop to visit the famous Boulders Beach and spend some time watching the totally fabulous African Penguin colony which thrives here. They are a joy to watch their funny little walk and you can t help but falling a little in love with them! We then return to Cape Town where we have another evening to enjoy the town and dinner. What a fantastic final day to an amazing holiday in South Africa. GUESTHOUSE MEALS B Day 12: Departure day. A single transfer to Cape Town Airport is provided. If you are intending to buy expensive souvenirs or undertake any optional activities or excursions, you should budget accordingly (credit cards can be useful in this respect). Also, if you expect to buy considerable quantities of soft drinks or beer, you should make an allowance for this. Additionally, you will be able to get currency from bank ATMs in many of the towns that we will visit.
