3 Meacham Lake Campground and state park 119 State Camp Road, Malone This beautiful, 1,203 acre Adirondack lake is a fishing paradise that also has a swimming beach with bathhouse, an activity area, a boat launch, showers and toilets, firewood, and playgrounds. Rent a boat, or bring your motorboat and cruise around in style. That means stellar views of scenic wetlands, babbling brooks, and beautiful hardwood forests. In winter, the paths are open for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. 4 Route 374, Chateaugay Route 30-S, Malone Chateaugay Lakes boating, fishing, sailing Launch from the Chateaugay Narrows, then head north or south to hit Upper or Lower Chateaugy lake. Upper is about four times bigger than Lower, and there s a cool rocky island in the middle. In winter, grab your shanty, fishing rod, and a warm drink and head out for some awesome ice fishing. The 3.7 mile trail to Debar s summit begins on the level and steepens as elevation is gained. It passes a lean-to and a landslide path before climbing the summit rock, where magnificent 180-degree views await. Debar mountain hike,camp Johnson Rd, Chasm Falls Route 30-S, Malone Salmon River Fly fishing Stocked annually with brown and rainbow trout, the Salmon River has six distinct sections: Mountain View to Oxbow, Oxbow to Chasm Falls, Chasm Falls to Whippleville, Whippleville to Malone, Lamica Lake to Island, and Island to Westville Center. A relatively easy, 2 mile hike to a pleasant summit where there are excellent views of Lake Titus and Titusville Mountain. Explore a little to take in additional views of the Humbug Mountains. Elephant head Short hike, nice view Route 30-S Cemetery Road, Chateaugay St. Regis river Paddling Put in at the southern end of this 86-mile river and you can paddle and pond hop through the St. Regis Canoe Area. It s some of the most scenic backcountry water in the Adirondacks. For 12,000 years these 120-foot falls have cascaded over a precipice in Chateaugay Chasm. 6 FUN IN THE SNOW wilder homestead living history 177 Stacy Rd., Malone The restored farmhouse, reconstructed barns, and museum here all offer a glimpse into the life of Almanzo Wilder, who grew up on this property. Almanzo went on to marry Laura Ingalls, author of the Little House on the Prairie books. When winter hits, our hiking trails become a destination for snowshoers and cross-country skiers alike. You can explore our mountainous terrain, or wax up and hit the wide, gentle trails at the VIC. To spend a week doing some family-friendly downhill, there s no place like Titus Mountain. SKIING the house of history history museum 51 Milwaukee St., Malone This Tuscan-style brick home became the Franklin House of History in Inside there are period rooms, collections storage, local history exhibits, and museum offices. The Schryer Center for Historical and Genealogical Research is in the carriage house behind the museum. Malone s expansive snowmobile trail network connects riders with hospitable communities that have amenities like food, gas, and lodging. That s great, because the trails themselves offer tons of options for day-long rides or quick out-and-back adventures. SNOWMOBILING akwesasne cultural experience 321 NY-37 Hogansburg The Akwesasne Library and Cultural Center is a resource for the Akwesasne community and the general public, providing a library and museum that celebrates the history of the Akwesasne Mohawk Nation and the talents of local Mohawk artists. In summer, our lakes are dotted with sailboats. Open water means ice fishing come winter, so bundle up and visit the Malone Region when temperatures drop, then get ready to hunker down.
