2 Munro Step Challenge 2018 This September, we re supporting Blood Cancer Awareness Month by inviting you to take on the Munro Step Challenge. A Munro is a mountain in Scotland with a height over 3,000 feet (914 meters), named after Sir Hugh Munro. Bagging a Munro is the act of climbing one of these mountains, and some intrepid adventurers challenge themselves to bag all of them. We thought climbing all 282 might be a little too much, so we have chosen the 20 highest. Taking part is simple: Wherever you are in the world, we challenge you to conquer as many of Scotland s 20 highest peaks as you can by taking the equivalent number of steps, which we ve provided in this handy guide. Take a look at the list of wonderful names and read the fun facts about each Munro to choose which ones to climb. Or will you attempt them all? You can make this a step up challenge (vertical steps) or a step challenge the most important thing is that you have fun! Whether you choose to climb a real mountain, a nearby hill, the stairs or prefer to hit the gym, get friends and family together to help beat blood cancer one step at a time. 3 Derry Cairngorm Wooded Blue Mountain 1,155m 7571 steps It s time to kick off your challenge with Scotland s 20th highest peak. Good luck you ll be amazing! Beinn Bhrotain Hill of the Mastiff 1,157m 7584 steps Day two s challenge is to take on the sprawling Hill of the mastiff, named after the black hound of the legendary Fingalian tribe. Keep going! Stob Binnein Anvil Peak 1,165m 7637 steps Joined to its slightly taller twin Ben More, Stob Binnein is rarely climbed on its own. But don t worry if you re not quite ready yet to take on two peaks in one day, just find a pace that works for you. Ben Avon Mountain of the Bright One 1,171m 7676 steps A large mountain with a vast plateau, getting to the summit and bagging Ben Avon requires a short scramble. Are you ready for the challenge? Ben More Big Mountain 1,174m 7696 steps This giant green pyramid towers over farmland and is known for its steep ascent. If you ve chosen to cover your steps over flat land so far, why not have a go at some vertical steps today? well done! Munro step Challenge

4 Stob Choire Claurigh Peak of the Brawling Corrie 1,177m 7715 steps Part of one of the best ridge walks on the Scottish mainland, this is one for the adventure-seekers. Will you take on the challenge of Scotland s 15th highest peak? Mam Sodhail Hill of the Barn 1,181m 7742 steps Why not tick two Munros off the list today and climb the equivalent steps to Mam Sodhail and its close neighbour Carn Eige? Remember that every step you take is a step towards beating blood cancer. Beinn Mheadhoin Middle Mountain 1,182m 7748 steps Beinn Mheadhoin lies in the heart of the Cairngorm mountains, and is one of the most remote peaks in the region. At its summit are spectacular boulders left from the end of the last ice age. Carn Eige Ice Heap 1,183m 7755 steps Carn Eige is often climbed with its close neighbour Mam Sodhail and provides spectacular views of the Great Glen.The best view comes after the hardest climb! Beinn a Bhuird Table Mountain 1,197m 7846 steps An immense mountain in the Cairngorms, climbers are rewarded with magnificent views. 5 Ben Lawers Loud Stream Mountain 1,214m 7958 steps A National Nature Reserve rising high above Loch Tay, Ben Lawers is known for its flora, making it one of Scotland s most popular peaks. Carn Mor Dearg The Big Red Mountain 1,220m 7997 steps Carn Mor Dearg is overshadowed by Ben Nevis but provides the perfect viewpoint from which to admire the Ben. Climb mountains not so the world can see you but so you can see the world! Aonach Mor Big Ridge 1,221m 8004 steps Well done! You re now more than halfway through your challenge so remember every mountain top is within reach if you just keep climbing. Aonach Beag Small Ridge 1,234m 8089 steps Usually tackled alongside close neighbour Aonach Mor, why not tick two Munros off the list today? Cairn Gorm The Blue Mountain 1,244m 8154 steps One of the best known summits in Scotland thanks to its skiing opportunities and being home to the UK s highest funicular railway but no cable cars are allowed in this challenge! almost there! 6 Sgor an Lochain Uaine Angel s Peak 1,258m 8246 steps Known as the Angel s Peak, this mountain is extremely remote. Why not arrange a walk with friends at your nearest beauty spot and tackle the challenge together? Cairn Toul The Barn Shaped Mountain 1,291m 8463 steps The Barn Shaped Mountain is linked by a bealach or narrow mountain pass to Braeriach so if you fancy going the extra mile, why not bag both peaks in one day? Braeriach The Brindled Upland 1,296m 8495 steps Known as the place where the Scottish winter never truly ends, this peak has been snow-free on just five recorded occasions since the 1700s. Let s hope your walk is a bit warmer! Ben Macdui Mountain of the Sons of Duff 1,309m 8581 steps Surmount the highest peak in the Cairngorms National Park and you might meet the Big Grey Man a mythical creature sometimes compared to the Yeti. Ben Nevis Malicious Mountain 1,344m 8810 steps You ll really have your head in the clouds after conquering the equivalent steps to Scotland s tallest and most iconic mountain and the satisfaction of knowing you ve raised a fantastic amount for blood cancer research! you made it! 7 Thank you! Amy Carmichael was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia when she was just 7 years old. While she was in hospital undergoing treatment, she saw the names of all the children on the ward written on the nurses board. She decided there and then that she wanted to help make it possible for there to be fewer names on those boards. We met Amy when she visited the set of MPC2016 s Prep Program. We were captivated by her determination and moved by her story, and we have been looking forward to sharing an update with our Peaker family. Four years on from her gruelling treatment, Amy is only now getting back to full strength and becoming able to do the things she loves dancing, swimming and fundraising to help others like her. From Ceilidhs to kilt walks, she loves a challenge and is now excited to be doing her first Munro Step Challenge. She s truly an inspiration and so are you! Your support is helping researchers in the UK, who are working with teams around the world to potentially revolutionise the way childhood leukaemia is treated. They are working on how to improve the diagnosis, outcome and treatments for children with leukaemia, ultimately sparing them from some of the awful longterm side effects. This means young people like Amy will be able to live their lives to the full. By taking on this challenge, you re helping young people to face theirs. Munro step Challenge
