Changes to the Interchange will be on an entirely different and much larger scale. The relocation and redevelopment of the Richard Dunn Sports Centre facility to the nearby Sedbergh playing fields will release one of the most significant retail destinations in West Yorkshire. 44 THE GEORGE HOTEL Location: Huddersfield Opportunity: Investment Type: Mixed-use Completed in 1851, the George Hotel was the birthplace of the rugby league, when 21 Lancashire and Yorkshire clubs held a meeting 29 August 1895 and by a majority of 20 to 1 voted to secede from the Rugby Football Union to set up their own Northern Rugby Football Union. In 1922 this became the Rugby Football League. The Grade II* Listed building is a oneminute walk from Huddersfield s railway station in St George s Square. The 60-bed hotel is currently closed, and the property is available for purchase.
