11 Rivington Chase New Homes Rivington Chase A strategic mixed use 74 hectares (183 acre) residential and employment scheme at the site of the former Horwich Locomotive Works. The development will feature 35,225 m2 (379,000 sq. ft.) of employment/mixed use commercial, the creation of 1,700 new homes and over 50 acres of open space including pedestrian and cycle routes. 12 Rivington Chase New Homes 1,700 New Homes 1,350 New Jobs New Homes Artists Impression The scheme retains a group of the original Loco Works buildings within the Heritage Core area at the centre of the site and will provide for a new access road linking the site with Horwich Parkway rail station, junction 6 of the M61 and the adjoining Middlebrook retail, leisure and business park. Permission has been granted for the immediate demolition of three of the buildings within the former Horwich Loco Works Conservation Area that are at risk of collapse and the part demolition and alteration of buildings within the heritage core. A series of highway junction improvements will also be provided to improve and accommodate access and egress at Rivington Chase. The site is easily accessible from the road network at junction 6 of the M61, providing connections to Salford, Central Manchester, Manchester Airport by the A580 and M60/ M602, and Preston by the M65 and M6. It will make a significant contribution to the employment and housing land requirements of the borough and will position Bolton as a major Greater Manchester hub for economic prosperity. Partners involved The scheme will be developed by Horwich Vision Ltd in partnership with Bolton Council. Horwich Vision is a joint venture between Bluemantle Ltd and Homes & Communities Agency. Delivery timescales The site, which will be redeveloped over a 10 to 12 year period, has been included in the Bolton Council Core Strategy document, Bolton s planning framework document up to A supplementary planning document has subsequently been approved by Bolton Council and the hybrid planning application was approved by the planning committee at their meeting on the 11th September A phasing plan for delivery will be worked up by the developers with the landowners during the early part of End uses To develop a strong and distinctive sense of place, creating an attractive environment for people to live and work. The development now includes a nine screen cinema by The Light, 30,000 sq ft with a capacity for 1,200 people. The Victorian Basement Vaults have been transformed into family-friendly restaurants and bars including Nandos, Prezzo, Baltic Cellar and Great Ale with others opening soon. Amazonia play area has also opened and features a café, play & train area as well as an 18 hole adventure golf zone. The investment has also attracted a number of new retailers to the centre, including Topshop, Topman and The Entertainer.
