3 TOOK S COURT THE HISTORY OF TOOK S COURT Took s Court is situated within the Chancery Lane Conservation Area. Named after Thomas Tooke of London Esquyre, Dickens House was constructed in 0. No s - Took s Court are some of the finest examples of early Georgian properties, framed by giant Baroque Ionic pilasters and rubbed brick, and boasts its original flying staircase running from the ground to the second floor. There is a long association between Charles Dickens and Took s Court, which was re-named Cook s Court (occupied by Mr. Snagsby) by Dickens in his novel Bleak House. Local tradition suggests Dickens lived in Took s Court during his time as a parliamentary reporter when he is believed to have concocted one Ebenezer Scrooge, based upon his neighbour. LOCATION Dickens House is located in the heart of Midtown and is ideally situated between the West End and the City.
