2 How to get here Only 75 minutes from London The International Gatwick Airport handles direct flights from all parts of the world, with internal flights operating from the rest of Britain. Gatwick is on the Victoria line, offering a direct link with Bexhill and Hastings (and approximately 50 miles by road). In addition, charter services operate from Lydd Airport (21 miles). Travelling to 1066 Country by car is straightforward. The major road route is the A21 which is linked to the M25, providing a quick route around London. The fastest route into 1066 Country from the Channel Tunnel and Ferry Ports is via the M20 towards Ashford, then the A2070 via Brenzett towards Rye. Trains depart from London Charing Cross, London Bridge, St Pancras (High Speed Link) and Waterloo East. Trains also depart from London Victoria and Gatwick Airport. Travel from Paris, Brussels or Lille by Eurostar via Ashford International Station (from Paris and Brussels approx 2 hours to Ashford, 1 hour from Lille). 6 Rye Art Gallery Drusillas Park The Easton Rooms is recognised nationally for its exciting selling exhibitions of contemporary paintings, prints, photography, ceramics, glass, jewellery, textiles, sculpture, wood and metalwork. 7 Stone Cross Windmill Carr Taylor Vineyards This restored working Windmill, is situated on the A259 in the village of Stone Cross between Polegate and Pevensey. The Mill was built in 1875/6 for Samuel Dallaway and worked until the late 1930s. It was restored in 2000 and grain was milled for the first time in over 60 years. Stoneground Flour is now produced for sale in the Mill Store. Great Dixter House & Gardens Great Dixter, birthplace and home of the late gardening writer Christopher Lloyd, was built in c1460 and boasts one of the largest surviving timber famed halls in the country. Of particular note is the antique furniture and needlework collection.
