9 Chairman s Welcome Welcome to NWR events for 2017 enclosed in this useful handbook. Thank you to the new Handbook Team for compiling the information for this booklet. Thanks to those members who supported DA / Section Meets and THS's during the 2016 season. The 2016 NFOL was at Three Counties Showground, with the Malvern hills in the background. Many of our NWR members attended this Club Event and some where part of the Working Party getting valuable experience for our own turn at running this event in 2018 now12 years after the last time at Tabley in Well done to those who took part in the lighting up and CLDA for winning a scene and L&CDA for winning their section in the Mardi Gras is near the South coast at Hickstead, also on a Showground, for August BH. Our advertising has already started for 2018 where the event will be at Arley Hall & Gds, August BH. We have already taken some Working Party applications but there may still be some roles that need filling, so please apply if you want to participate in this unique experience North West Regional Meet moved to the beautiful Arley Estate, so all please come and join us again in Cheshire, 18 th 22 nd May The Bar, supplying Real Ale at this Regional Meet has had excellent feedback and we are planning not to run out of Beer ever again! We are always looking for other attractions to enhance the Meet. The 1 st Planning Meeting is generally held on the Saturday at our Annual NWR November Social weekend. Those members who have attended in past years appear to enjoy themselves at this friendly inter DA event.

10 Those regulars : please continue your support and let s also attract some new members. You are welcome to also attend the NWR AGM 11am Sunday 21st MAY. My Vision is still for the future Camping Events to bring Site Officers and all our Committees thinking more collectively, to enable us to support each other. If there is a special or themed event for a DA, we have the option to join up and not go in competition with each other, therefore lessening the strain on our own Committees and Stewards. We are a stronger Team if we work together and I think some of you are starting to agree with me. Congratulations to the Youth who are training or who have recently passed their Test. Thanks to the NWR RYLO s and all the Youth Leaders and helpers, who have trained our CCY. A number of NWR Youth have also been fortunate enough to attend National and International Rallies is the year the UK will host the Easter FICC Youth Rally, April th. The venue is Normandy; just 30 miles from the Port of Cherbourg, home of the fantastic Maritime Museum named Cite de La Mer. 18 Extracted From Code Of Conduct For Organised Meets And Rallies General 1. It is assumed that meet participants will be familiar with the Code for Campers and Code for Caravanners, which can be found in the Club s Your Big Sites Book 2. Meets will be open to members of the club only in accordance with the Certificate of Exemption. 3. Proof of Club Membership is to be shown by participating members when properly demanded. 4. One named person is to be responsible overall for the conduct of the meet. Safety on the Site Meet 5. All vehicles to be restricted to 5mph on the Meet field, and learner drivers are not allowed. 6. Recommended space to be minimum 6 metres between facing walls of adjacent units, and density not to exceed 20 to the acre. 7. Open fires are not generally allowed, except with the permission of the Steward and in a place agreed with him. Barbecues should also be agreed with the Steward and sited well away from tents, vans, awnings etc. 8. It is strongly recommended that all units carry a suitable BSI and/or F.O.C. approved fire extinguisher and that everyone should be aware of how to use the one they have. Fire blankets and buckets of water placed outside units are also useful as near-to-hand fire fighting equipment. 9. It is advisable that each unit should have a First Aid Kit. General behaviour 10. Respect should be shown to the land owner s property - trees, fences, farm buildings, equipment and stock 11. All animals are to be kept under control and must not be allowed to run loose on the field. Recommended lengths of lead when tethered is a maximum of two metres and animals must be exercised away from units. 12. It is forbidden to fly kites, and model aircraft and to use catapults, airguns, firearms, bow and arrows etc. on site. Ball games are permitted only with permission of the Steward on all open spaces well away from the units. 13. Each pitch should be left clear of litter at the end of the meet, and a careful check made before leaving the field that no litter has been left behind. 14. Noise should be kept to a minimum from radios, televisions and other sources e.g.: generators and there should be no noise whatsoever between 11 pm and 7 am. 16

19 15. Cars should not be driven on the field if at all possible when the ground is wet, to prevent damage to the field. Chemical Toilets and Waste Water 16. Chemical toilets must not be washed or primed at drinking water points. 17. The arrangements made for the disposal of waste water and chemically treated sewage must be agreed with the land owner, and must take full account of the need to safeguard water supplies and to prevent the pollution of rivers and streams. 18. Similarly, waste water must not be disposed of except as agreed in paragraph 17 above. Members must collect waste water in a receptacle and should not allow it to overflow and foul the ground. 19. Members attending meets must take their litter home with them if receptacles are not provided. Youth Camping Club Youth are welcome at any meet and are encouraged to pass their test Special Permission Sites are organised by District Associations, Groups and Sections for that weekend only. If individuals ask to camp at other times this could mean the loss of the site. 17

28 Come and explore the great outdoors with the Youth If you are aged between 12 and 17 (12 to 21 if you pass your youth test) and would like to make new friends have the opportunity to travel to Europe, then why not join the Camping Club Youth Through CCY, young people learn to build their confidence and develop important skills for adult life. Become proficient in activities like planning trips and projects, taking responsibility, looking out for others, cooking and first aid. Enjoy experiences that will help them develop into well-rounded individuals. Getting involved in CCY can make a difference to college and job applications, too. It shows a willingness to seize opportunities, be adventurous and generally get stuck in with hard work. Enjoy adventures with like-minded friends Discover the great outdoors Learn new skills Camp at the National Youth Rally and enjoy sports, games, fancy dress, discos and much more After your Youth Test, travel the world on International Youth rallies.
