HOLSWORTHY HAMLETS PARISH COUNCIL Parish Website: At the Parish Council s meeting on 23 rd September, after welcoming everyone, the Chairman, Leslie Hobbs, gave a vote of thanks to the outgoing Chairman, Ken Carroll who had been invited to attend for a presentation. Cllr Hobbs thanked him for his many years of outstanding service to the Council & presented him with a framed certificate of appreciation & an engraved glass bowl. Press photographs were taken to mark the occasion. There is now a vacancy for new councillor on the Parish Council. Anyone interested in filling this vacancy should contact the Parish Clerk by 20 th October PCSO Beverley Bray from Holsworthy Police Station reported that both the Football Club & the Bowls Club in Holsworthy had suffered attempted breakins. In both cases these attempts were foiled by the good alarm systems which are in place, but people should be aware of the situation. An incidence of heating oil theft occurred at Halwill, which may have been precipitated by the weather turning colder. PCSO Bray is due to conduct another speed trap in the parish using the speed gun. CCTV is now operational in The Square & Fore Street in Holsworthy. Automatic number plate recognition is also in operation for vehicles entering The Square. An act of vandalism in Chilsworthy resulted in a water trough being smashed & a tap being turned on & left running for a long period of time. The Clerk reported that she had attended the New Clerk s Training Course run by the Devon Association of Local Councils (DALC). Issues discussed by the Council included the most recent inspections of the play areas, re-positioning of the fingerposts for the footpaths at Manworthy Mill & North Arscott Farm, possible provision of a fingerpost at Dunsland, the new Parish Plan which is virtually complete, the imminent annual review of the Emergency Plan, consultation requests received for planning applications, suggestions for possible projects which may qualify for funding from the Town & Parish (TAP) Fund & plans for the provision of a Memorial Garden on the site of the new AgriBusiness Park. Invoices totalling were approved for payment. The Council is now inviting applications for Parish Grants for Any organisation wishing to apply for a Parish Grant should contact the Parish Clerk as soon as possible. The chapel had been transformed into Rocky s Plaice fish and chip shop where thirty seven children had met three mornings that week for games, craft, songs & Bible stories. The Scripture Union holiday club based on the life of Peter, the rock, featured three stories from the life of the early Church: the ascension, the healing of the lame man at the Temple gate and Peter s vision of unclean animals. The children were reminded on day one, that just as a boomerang comes back, so Jesus will come back again one day, giving us HOPE. Day two looked at the FAITH of Peter and John in Jesus to heal the lame man. The last day s message, that God s love is for all people, encouraged the children to TELL the good news of Jesus. Throughout the sessions there was serious competition between the four teams: gold fish, blue whales, red herrings and white sharks! The craft activities in the Stable turned out brightly painted exotic fish with LED eyes, Jesus going up to heaven (with string and a yoghurt pot covered with clouds!) and a huge mixing, rolling and baking session to produce fabulous animal biscuits. Jesus, You re My Superhero, the Rocky s Plaice theme song and the Cha Cha Slide got everyone on their feet singing and dancing, plus plenty more fun with the games and loads of fishy jokes! On Sunday morning as everyone returned for the party at Rocky s Plaice, the children and leaders retold what they had learnt during the week to their family and friends. The catering crew served fish fingers in baps and chips, followed by loads of delicious cakes, after the service. There was no charge for the meal but if people wanted to, they could make a donation to the Syrian crisis. It was wonderful to see so many people of all ages from the chapel family, involved in the preparation and delivery of the holiday club and to see many of the teenagers ably leading throughout the week. MESSY CHURCH Messy Church continues to be on the 3rd Sunday of each month in the Stable next to the Chapel: 10-45am to 12-15pm. All are welcome! As well as Messy Church there is Sunday Club each week for any children wishing to attend, and Coffee Club for year 6 and upwards. There is a creche for the under 3s at the back of the chapel with toys, a comfy sofa and tea and coffee, where parents/carers can listen to the service vie a relay system and see what's happening through the glazed screen. We meet in the Chapel at am each week. All are welcome "In October there are several events at the Chapel, and we'd love you to join with us for as many of these occasions as you are able : Family Fun Day. Sunday 13th October 2-5pm. Free admission. Bouncy slide, sumo suits, face painting, splat the rat, penalty shoot out etc. BBQ, cakes. Harvest Festival is on Sunday 20 th October, at am when the preacher will be Peter Cole from Pancrasweek. Messy Church will run alongside this in the Stable. Everyone will come together afterwards for a pasty lunch. The offerings will be split 3 ways between the work of Andy Jerrard - the Rural Pastoral worker; Farm Crisis Network and Uganda Connected Church. Harvest gifts will be donated to the Food Bank.
