We live in an area that is residential parking only, however, our street is curiously not part of this bylaw. Ironically, we are literally geographically surrounded by residential parking only signs, including past our home, all the way up Frederick Norris. The students see this and take full advantage of this parking opportunity. With having school aged children, and being situated on a well used corner of Frederick Norris and Redwood, I am now concerned with the safety of having so many cars being parked here and unfortunately, the number of cars parking here is increasing on an almost daily basis. Being so very close to the University s southern entrance, students are continuously on the hunt for free parking. Once again, existing residential parking only signs are all around us, so we are not asking for the area to necessarily be increased, but to be included in the already existing residential only parking area. I have attached a photo of this mornings parking situation that we are facing now daily. The four cars are nonresidential. There were another two non-residential vehicles on the east side (not in the photo) which were parked as well. 6 Mayor and uncil District of Oak Bay Oak Bay Municipal Hall 2167 Oak Bay Avenue Victoria B V8R 1G2 September 16 th, 2014 Petition to have signage erected to restrict parking on ardiff Place and Kendal Avenue Dear Mayor and uncil Over the last number of years we have seen a significant increase in the number of cars being parked outside our houses on the south end of ardiff Place and onto North side of Kendal Avenue where it joins ardiff Place. These cars usually belong to students who are attending the University of Victoria or amosun llege. We have managed this situation in the past by asking the individuals in question not to park opposite our driveways and most have complied with the request. This year, however, the number of cars parking has increased significantly to present the following problems: 1. ars are parked on both sides of the road making it very difficult to enter and exit the driveway. 2. ars are being left for excessive time periods. One specific example of this is that a red Mitsubishi lt, registration #818 DML, has been parked consistently outside 3430 ardiff Place. The driver returns periodically and moves the car approximately 10 feet. This is done so he does not fall foul of the 24 hour rule. 3. Visitors to our houses are being forced to park up the street opposite other neighbors houses. There appears to be one house, 3382 Henderson road, which is rented to six individuals. The landlord has instructed the tenants to park on ardiff. Today four non-resident cars were parked opposite the entrance to 3430 ardiff Place. But this is situation is occurring throughout the area. Other sections of ardiff Place already have Residents only signs placed on the street. The south side of Kendal Avenue already has 2 hour only signs so this issue is clearly not new to uncil. As residents of ardiff Place and Kendal Avenue we formally request that uncil places parking restriction signs on the southern end of ardiff Place and the north side of Kendal Avenue. The signs and restrictions we request are for 2 hour only parking. We request that these signs be placed on the remaining unregulated section of ardiff Place from Avondale to Kendal and the north side of Kendal Avenue.
