2 GINA S CHARITY BIKE RIDES I m completing 3 x 65 mile bike rides this summer and have decided it would be a missed opportunity if I didn t at least try to raise a bit of money for charity. I have already completed one of the rides and have another two coming up - one in July and one in September! ALDE COMMUNITY COUNCIL SPRING SHOW REPORT The Alde Community Council Spring Show held on April 7th, was a glorious sight - this year having been particularly good for the Narcissus family. The daffodils were wonderful as were so many other colourful blooms of many varieties. The flower arrangements were also really beautiful as usual. The show had been very well prepared by the ACC committee and by 10 o clock everything was ready for the judge. In the afternoon a good crowd assembled for refreshments and the presentation of the Awards, which this year were dominated by the Tesh and Fitzgerald families - very well deserved! The photos on the Rendham web site are well worth a look. Les Holden Cup for most points in the Show - Shelia Tesh Pam Rowe Cup for flower arrangement - Chris Salmon The Junior Cup - Eleanor Fitzgerald Best in Show (for her amazing carving of a vegetable) - Eleanor Fitzgerald Sunflower Cup for under 10 years - Rosie Loveridge Jean Hambling Cup for best mixed daffodils - Anne Fitzgerald Joyce Hewitt Cup for best hyacinths - John McKee The Awards were presented by Jo Rogers, President of the ACC, whose last event this would probably be as she will be resigning this year. Following Jenny Tyson s Chair speech thanking all the helpers, she praised everyone for their contributions and said a few words about her many enjoyable years in the ACC. If you wish to join the Neighbourhood Watch / Village Happenings list please Trev.salmon@btinternet.com. 2

This equipment was donated to Rendham Village Hall in November The RVHMC was not involved in the raising of the funds but gratefully accepted the donation of the equipment. The value of the equipment was in the region of 3,000. (Accounting for this amount was undertaken by the volunteers themselves, known as the Rendham Entertainments Committee). Once presented with the equipment, RVHMC discussed the best way forward to arrange a permanent installation to ensure it could be used to its full potential. Professional advice was sought and subsequently accepted, and resulted in the donated equipment being installed. During the course of this process, recommendations were made that required additional purchases to adapt the installation and to upgrade the speakers from two free standing to four ceiling mounted. Part of the donated equipment was a radio microphone system that was regarded as being excessive to RVH needs. This was substituted for a simple plug-in cable microphone. Consequently, the speakers and radio microphone system were used in part exchange thus ensuring that the donated equipment was made fit for purpose and value for money obtained. The professional advice, installation and upgrade resulted in a final cost of 1,062 which represents what we believe to be good use of the donated equipment adapted to be user-friendly, modern and suitable for our needs and for those wishing to hire the hall. Denis Moore, RVH Chairman 4 THE BOOZE BARROW Watch out for Linda & Chris Holden and their Booze Barrow who are looking for as many donations as possible for all types of consumables - ketchup to spirits! 5 RENDHAM SWEFFLING RENDHAM SWEFFLING CHURCH SERVICES - RENDHAM & SWEFFLING JUNE 3 JUNE 10 JUNE 17 JUNE 24 BCP JULY 1 JULY 8 JULY 15 JULY 22 *AUG 3* BCP MATINS MORNING PRAYER MORNING PRAYER BCP BCP Sunday 29th July there will be a Benefice Service of Holy Communion in Cransford at 10:00am HARVEST THANKSGIVING On Easter Sunday, 1 April, our service was taken by Prof. John Tesh and was well attended. The Benefice Choir sang the introit And can it be, and the anthem The strife is o er. The Remembrance Easter Lilies filled the church with their fragrance, and Lesley Bennion read out the names of those who were remembered by the flowers. Thanks to all who supported the Remembrance Lilies and to those who arranged them so beautifully. Since our last report there have been two weddings in the Church, that of James Brice and Kelly Marie Holzinger on 5 April, and of Mark Chatterton and Theadora Ballantyne-Way on 5 May. Both were very joyful occasions, and both were conducted by the Rev. Jonathan Olanczuk. We are grateful to the Community Payback team who came on 19 April to give our churchyard grass the first cut of the year. As a result of a change in UK law, we now need your consent as to how we contact you. If you currently receive your copy of The Street, Rendham s Village Newsletter, by please complete the Data Consent Form you will have received by and return immediately to ensure you receive the next edition. Unfortunately if we don t hear from you we will have to stop sending your issue via to ensure we comply. If you don t currently receive your copy by and would like to start doing so please the editors (details on the final page). Please note, The Street will continue to be delivered by hand locally and is also available on Rendham s Village website. REQUEST FOR HELP - Can you help sell Draw Tickets for Rendham Village Fete? Currently there are only 6 people selling tickets for the excellent prizes available. Tickets are printed, sponsored by Clarke & Simpson and selling to the public DOUBLES the income and ensures that the Draw can cover the Fete s committed outlay in an emergency. If you are reserved about selling, you can be paired with someone else. I have offered to do 3 sessions on Saturday 30th June at Framlingham Market and again on Wednesday 4th July in Saxmundham s Fromus Square (painted up in my Mummers outfit) - can you help me? We are looking for volunteeers to help sell Draw Tickets and promote the Fete in Framlingham and Saxmundham on Saturday 30 June, Tuesday 3 July and Wednesday 4 July. Will you join we few, we happy few, we band of brothers and sisters, who doth commit to do their duty and have responded to Rendham s Call to Arms? To volunteer please call Sue Donald ( ) or susandonald@suffolkonline.net. Roger Bennion Keep your belongings safe - In the hot weather please remember to lock doors and windows when you go out. If you see anything suspicious please report it to the police and Neighbourhood Watch. 5

6 - This year reports were received from PCC, ACC, PARK, Neighbourhood Watch, the Village Hall Management Committee and Village website. Additionally various reports were received from the Parish Council, including reports by Chairman Cllr. Willett, financial reports for the Parish and the Amenity Fund from the Clerk. These will all be available to read in the minutes published on the Rendham Village website. - The main headings of the report are as follows with the full report available online: More than 94% of children (7,435) offered first choice primary school Over 6,500 potholes repaired in Suffolk since January Funding available for first-time heating systems New innovative fire engine launched in Suffolk Call for on-call firefighters Police and Crime Commissioner Public Meetings Morford as Vice Chairman. POLITE REQUEST - Dog walkers please clear up after your dog(s). The paths around the fields are littered and it isn t pleasant for other walkers. Thank you! - Cllr. Willett was duly elected as Chairman with Cllr. - As there were three candidates for the vacancy a secret ballot was held and Emma Strachan duly elected. This makes for a full complement of eight councillors. - A decision was taken about purchasing the box in which to house the defibrillator, and hopefully in the next few weeks this will be installed by the Village Hall. Details about access will be notified to everyone. It is important that the Ambulance service is rung before collecting the defibrillator. - Currently there is no work being carried out on the Green because of the time of year. A Risk Assessment is in draft format and hopefully will be agreed at the September meeting. Further plans to reaffirm the Parish Council s intentions for the Green will be developed during the summer months for next year s programme of work. - James Robbins, the solicitor for the Parish Council, is waiting for answers about PARK which he has raised with East Suffolk and the legal searches. - The Council is working on the various regulations required under the new law that is coming into force on the 25th May. Policies are being reviewed and new ones written, such as the Privacy Policy and the Information Asset register. A Data Controller has to be registered and this costs 40 per year. Unfortunately the Parish Council has no choice in this matter. SUFFOLK WALKING FESTIVAL With over 120 walks and events, enjoy the Woodland Twilight Safari or the Hedgerow Cream Tea! There are walks for all until 3rd June. Book your tickets and find out more about the Fringe Programme at It s time to dust off those tennis rackets and get some fresh air and exercise! Now in their 9th season, Rendham Mummers (or Guisers as they are sometimes called) seek to entertain and maintain the traditions of this unique form of street theatre, which dates back to medieval times.
